  1. Rob Terry says:

Classic, short, to-the-point Jobs answer, haha

  2. Pj73 says:

Well I think I will just stick to my iPhone. Wifi is not always an option for me and if Steve Jobs or AT&T think I'm going to pay another 30 dollars a month for another 3g plan they have another thing coming!!!

  3. Tony says:

Loooool! This made me crack up!

  4. Joe McG says:

    Hey Jobs. One word: MyWi

I'll take my tethering whether you give it or not...

  5. Ericg1840 says:

Does the iPhone support tethering just not Att?

  6. Tom says:

and with that the palm pre plus is looking pretty good. I dont need 10,000 fart apps anyway

  7. MrAnonymous says:

    Steve has a direct email?

  8. Alex says:

Lol. Steve certainly has a private email that only high-ups and close friends know. The sjobs@apple.com email or whatever Is something he probably has for fun for things like this. Go Steve!

  9. L says:

Would have been better if it was "Sent from my iPad" lol

  10. OmariJames says:

    Lmao.

  11. Adam says:

    "just jailbreak it.

    Not a big deal.

    Sent from my iPhone"

    lmao

  12. Mike S. says:

Guess I'll have to pair my iPad with my Android phone which will tether over wifi. Apparently Mr. Jobs presumes everyone who buys Apple products has as much money as he does.

"It's just $30 more per month. No big deal."

  13. Stephennn says:

    what's tethering

  14. Freaknasty says:

Steve will let you know once he feels you're ready.

  15. duvi says:

The better question is... "Will I be able to tether the iPad (wifi only) to my iPhone for 3G service being that's it is iPhone os & iPhone os.?"

  16. push says:

Will the wifi-only version [of the iPad] somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?

    No.

    er~ the title http://bit.ly/dgc9Lq

  17. Gino from the Bronx says:

I wonder if Steve wrote that response via landscape or portrait keyboard?

  18. SheiknetChris says:

Don't tethering plans cost extra on AT&T and Verizon? Might not make much difference.

I was having some misgivings earlier about having my iPhone run down faster if the WiFi iPad was tethered off of it. I was leaning towards the 3G because of it. 15 bucks a month for 256mb might be a good compromise for me.

    Hey Jobs. One word: MyWi

I’ll take my tethering whether you give it or not…

    My sentiments exactly

  20. Great and funny post! But in my opinion, why would steve jobs say yes to that type of question? When they are offering a 3g plan so at&t can make money. I am sure they have a secret deal between apple and at&t. But I am sure that the iPad will be able to be jailbroken then have the abilitie to possibly teather your 3g on your iphone to the wifi ipad. Also steve jobs seems pretty mean in his emails. lol

  21. jazzyl says:

Well apple might disable tethering but if its jailbroken it might tether?

    Sent via BlackBerry.

  22. Crunch says:

Let's try that again...the question from Jezper Söderlund:

Will the wifi-only version [of the iPad] somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?

    And the answer?

Crunch: Yes, and it's easy (and free) to boot. Please allow me to explain.

Unlock your phone, download the AT&T tethering profile (tiny file), reboot and the iPhone's native tethering settings are uncloaked. Done.

(Optional) With JB app SBSettings, you can even add it to the "quick view". Oh, and anyone who is worried about AT&T: It even shows you the APN used: wap.cingular. :D :D Oh yea, and it's free to boot. ;)

And Steve-oh. We'll be sure to jailbreak the iPad to unleash all the heavily fortified features, settings, and apps so as to fend off your "planned obsolescence" tactics...And get us that OLED hi-res iPhone, would ya please?

  23. Dennis says:

As if Steve Jobs is the person standing in the way of tethering.

  24. Mwebsterpgh says:

I think this will give more people reason to jailbreak their phones. MyWi turns your iPhone into a hot spot so you can connect iPad. Sweet!

  25. Isaac65 says:

    I'm surprised it didn't say:

    No.

    Sent from my iPad

  26. Stc14 says:

Hmm. I wonder if Jobs has his iPhone Jailbroken, or maybe running a customized version of iPhone OS or a custom iPhone itself...

(Jobs)- "3.5 in, no tethering, no multitasking, no snapdragon? Not in MY iPhone! My iPhone must ACTUALLY be magical!"

  27. Jerry says:

Proof that the Iphone needs a physical keyboard... It's a pain to write a full sentence on a touch only phone ..

  28. Mike S. says:

    No.

Sent from my rooted Motorola Droid.

  29. fastlane says:

    @Jerry:

It’s a pain to write a full sentence on a touch only phone.

No wonder you didn't include your last name in front of the whole world.

  30. Gregg says:

Jerry. I type 66 words per minute on my iPhone. What the F are you typing with your toes??

  31. rjs says:

Why not? why do i need to buy two data plans?

  32. Ricardo says:

    Lol. Burned!

  33. Orion2021 says:

    @Jerry

Are you serious? My wife was heavily opposed to the touch interface. Now she has no problem with it. I type around 45 wpm with my iPhone. The touch keypad is far superior to a physical keyboard.

  34. William says:

bookmarked. Didn't iPhone initially didn't support tethering?

  35. Mitchell says:

MyWi is a waste if time. It never works, for ps3, laptops or iPods it never connects

  36. Steve Jobs says:

iPad will be ready to ship around the globe in late april.

    Sent from my iPad.

  37. MyWi ... looks nice - I'll have to give it a spin.

  38. Tomascco says:

If I had to have an iPad given to me I'm going to use my Pre Plus tethering.

  39. Neil says:

Kind of fun reading this on my iPad tethered via wifi to my Android. I even used Logmein to watch Flash videos over my tethered iPad. So sorry, Steve. ;)

  40. Simon says:

It makes perfect sense to pair an iPod with a Smartphone (or another cellular phone that has both web access and Bluetooth). Millions of iPad owners would gladly pay additional $30 or so per month to have web access anywhere without the need to buy an additional device and carry it around.

  41. iPodalot says:

Steve Jobs is seriously my hero. Jusst like his Apple products, his responses are clean, simple and efficient.

  42. gomes says:

It's obvious that Ipad will increase its portability and functions in near future
