Apple has just reported their Q3 2010 financial results and -- wow -- record revenue of $15.7 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.25 billion. 8.4 million iPhones (61% growth over the year-ago quarter), 9.41 million iPods (8% decline), 3.27 million iPads (first quarter of sales).

“It was a phenomenal quarter that exceeded our expectations all around, including the most successful product launch in Apple’s history with iPhone 4,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad is off to a terrific start, more people are buying Macs than ever before, and we have amazing new products still to come this year.”

“We’re really pleased to have generated over $4 billion of cash during the quarter,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “Looking ahead to the fourth fiscal quarter of 2010, we expect revenue of about $18 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share of about $3.44”

The results themselves are from a period before the "antennagate" issues -- only 4 days of iPhone 4 sales in the quarter -- but the Q&A after the conference call will likely address at least some of it, especially as it relates to projections for next quarter earnings.

The audio stream will be available via Apple.com starting 5pm ET.

  1. Chiapet says:

    Why r u still using an iPhone 3G on the Picture?!

  2. The_Reptile says:

    First quarter with the iPad. It should be a blow out quarter.

  3. Orangensaft says:

    @Chiapet actually, I believe that's an iPhone 2G :P

  4. evlfred says:

    WOW, are they cocky or what, releasing the third quarter results just 20 days in! Or maybe they have the iTimemachine ready to launch.

  5. Gavin says:

    They best do it before they give all those 'free' iPhone 4 cases away

  6. JNGold says:

    @evlfred,

    Have you taken economics 101 yet?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiscal_year

    BTW, IBM is also releasing Q3 numbers.

  7. Jimi says:

    Ya really? If you're out of hs and don't know the financial year timeline that's sad.

    3rd Quarter: April 1, 2010 - June 30, 2010

  8. Iphone says:

    great post very informative

  9. HateMeCauseYaAintMe says:

    great numbers

  10. icebike says:

    Well, as expected, great numbers, and share prices Jump.

    Any impact felt due to iP4 problems will be felt next quarter by those buying shares today and tomorrow.

    We long-term holders won't feel a thing.

  11. icebike says:

    @Jimi:

    Even sadder that you appear not to know that Financial year timeline varies by company.

  12. Cameron says:

    Macs?

  13. HateMeCauseYaAintMe says:

    Macs where 3.47b

  14. HungWell says:

    Glad I bought a bunch of their stock just before they announced the iPad.

  15. HungWell says:

    Wish I had bought in about 10 years ago.

  16. PhuckHoesAndBitches says:

    Apple is balling then! I want my bumper even tho' I don't drop calls.

  17. Carl says:

    @Gavin

    Apple will be offering free cases for like $170 million total cost. The cost of paying for those cases is absolutely nothing to their profit.

  18. Carl says:

    I'm confused by some of their business language. I need to learn that.

  19. Boy, those antenna issues sure did hurt Apple's Q2 earnings.

    Get real, Droid and PC users. Todays earnings call was not good for you to hear, and the reality is, the more those clowns from HTC, Nokia and RIM try and refute Apples findings on antenna strength only keeps Apple front and center.

    One word. SCOREBOARD!

    BTW, written on my iPhone 4.

  20. Typo. Q3.

    Still SCOREBOARD!

  21. Webvex says:

    So, if they sold 8.4M iPhones in the quarter, and 3M were iPhone4s, that's 5.4M 3GS models. Assuming a large number of the iPhone4s were upgrades from the 2G and 3G, I'm thinking there's a huge majority of 3GS users.

  22. Webbed. You are correct. Most iPhone 4 purchases were upgrades, and 3GS purchases were new users.

    3GS is no slouch!

    Don't sell yourself short, judge. You're a tremendous slouch.

  23. The_Reptile says:

    Thanks for the sell off. This company was always a good stock, just came with a steep discount thanks to a-gate.
