Scoble death-grips Android Captivate before Apple
We're guessing Apple will get an AT&T Captivate (or similar Samsung Galaxy S-class device) death-grip video up sooner or later, but in the meantime... Scoble to the rescue!
He shows both devices in the same area on the same network dropping bars and, he says, calls. We get it. Manufacturers aren't perfect. Phones aren't perfect. How many more videos will we get before this meme dies like bars beneath watery flesh?
And no, it's not an outsource, just yet another video making its hits off the antennagate saga where no phone, on no carrier is safe. Now before anyone cries "yeah, but iPhone 4 only needs a death-touch, not a death-grip!", we've already seen other videos showing the Galaxy getting killed by a single finger as well.
Of course, iPhone 4 is iPhone 4 in every market and on every carrier, so if anyone has a problem it's very easy to find out about everyone else who has that problem. With other devices, if someone has a problem with a Captivate will that get tracked to someone else with a problem on a Vibrant on T-Mobile, or a Galaxy in Europe?
No doubt Consumer Reports is on top of that.

Consumer Reports....what a bunch of hypocrites!
Agreed, people just like to bash Apple and the iphone when they can make alot of publicity. I'm no fanboy, I'm actually getting the captivate, but I've used both and they have no significant signal problems unless you consciously try to cause trouble.
I just tried the grip that Scoble is using in the first pic on my Captivate and my signal went UP a bar! Thanks, Robert!
Nice keep the videos coming
My iPhone 4 works great and for me that's all that matters.
Did someone slip a URL redirect of TiPb.com to AndroidCentral.com?
Still trying to confuse one problem specific to iPhon 4 with one thing that is normal on every phone on Earth?
Nice try
I find it ironic that anyone in the blogosphere should be pointing their finger at /Apple/ and saying "enough of Antennagate already!" This rather boring beating of a dead horse was brought to us by the likes of you. So I say, "sit down, shut up, and enjoy watching the rest of the circus side show you and yours started."
It will, as all blogosphere inanity does, taper back into nothingness in it's one time.
@oletros I don't think we are confused about antennagate anymore... In fact, it's being becoming more and more that the iPhone 4 is obviously not the ONLY phone with signal antennuation.
Nice try.
Bill Taroli > second that! It took a press conference by Mr. Jobs to educate the media. IMO, Steve must have thought ‘you guys, you are not that good’! The blogosphere and consumer report should have exposed this industry wide Smartphone antenna attenuation issue from day one and given us a balanced view on the subject. OK, maybe a few days later since no one can resist sensational journalism it seems!
I was reading along thinking, "Is he really not going to mention the finger touch this time? Amazing!" And then you mentioned it, but in a different way than usual that made me laugh. Thanks Rene, and for the email reply the other day. Keep up the good work!
The important take away from all of this craziness about the iPhone:
The iPhone is not any better at the PHONE part than any other smart phone.
Very good point.. if we have a problem with the iphone it's just take a few minutes to show in the media, and since the iphone 4 is the "only" cell phone apple makes.. We have a pretty good chance apple will take care of it..
Rene, honestly you make no sense. You say you're tired of hearing all this...yet you continue to post these things that perpetuate the issue.
If you're really tired of it...stop posting it. It's funny...you got tired of people showing how you could drop an iPhone and break it...you stopped posting that.
Yet you're tired of other phones being shown to have problems that may or may not be the same as the iPhone...yet you're still posting them.
Seriously Rene...can you just quit it.
just sick of these stories now! move on please.
I'm sick and tired of people who are sick and tired of the antennagate story.
Enough of he death grip, we're sick of the death grip, Apple's giving away free cases already, just drop it.
Wholly unsurprised Rene calls out Apple's Death Touch on Samsung videp but does not report a) unlike the iphone4, the alleged "touch" area is in an area not normally touchednot report multiple outlets have been unable to reproduce Apple's findings. (One such example http://bit.ly/bbtZHJ )
But hey, who needs analysis or actual journalism when you can just parrot your favorite companies' talking points
Bah holy not-checking-submission-from-phone-before-hitting-publish-button, batman!
Yep - any electrical engineer or physicist could have called this one. CR has some explaining to do. I canceled my subscription after this latest CR hit piece.
FAIL!!! You used more than 1 finger!
@Jimbo
Agreed. Rene is pretty much the penultimate Apple fanboy. What's hilarious is that APPLE started this mess, not the other way around.
No Phone No Carrier is safe??
come on .. so why did Apple chose the Droid Eris .. and not the Droid.. Why couldn't they go after the HTC Evo ... because it works perfectly on the phone. . and the biggest problem with the Iphone 4 is that the Iphone3GS DOES NOT have the death grip problem .. so Apple is going backwards..
Apple fanboys defending their device to the death. We get it.. When will news sites stop reporting this garbage?
iPhone 4 "death grip" has been way overblown. I now use a HTC HD2, but used to have an iPhone 3GS. After AT&T raised their data rates I switched to T-Mobile.
And the apple fanboys continue hahaha
Well fine, agreed, let's forget it. Though I continue to have big big problems on my iPhone 4 antenna wise that I've never had with any other phone. Still, if I don't like it I can take it back, which I won't, so I wish I would just shut up about it !!!! I'm not saying another word !!!
Ok it may have a deathgrip but who the hell grips a phone like in that picture???!!! I'm tired of hearing about this. Grow up apple, and go away scoble. I'm typing this on my iPhone 4 w/ no case!
Hey, if you can't take it, then don't dish it out.
