Apple announces 1 million Ping users in 48 hours
48 hours after Apple introduced Ping, their new social music network, they've announced 1 million users already signed on.
“One-third of the people who have downloaded iTunes 10 have joined Ping,“ said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services. “As many more people download iTunes 10 in the coming weeks, we expect the Ping community to continue growing.“
Ping lets you follow your favorite artists such as Lady Gaga, Coldplay, U2, Jack Johnson, Yo-Yo Ma and more, to see what they’re up to, check out photos and videos they’ve posted, see their tour dates and read comments about other artists and albums they’re listening to. In addition, you can post your thoughts and opinions, your favorite albums and songs, the music you’ve downloaded from iTunes® and the concerts you plan to attend.

This will fade out rather quickly. How mainly social networks can be on top? I have twitter and FaceBooK and that's enough for me. Plus I hear it's a lot of spam on ping right now.
Lots of 13 year old girls and narcissistic hipsters who need to know what their friends are listening to because their lives won't be complete unless they are like all their friends.
I'm not going to use my ping eventhough I have one. I just not a follower of an artist (or some).
By the way, why did @georgiatipb just say no?
I unsubscribed yesterday, (whijbny the way you cam to by using tools-view my account-turn off ping) I wonder how many people have unsubscribed because it's a waste of time bet they won't announce those figures. :)
not even worth the trouble. i joined, but only have one friend on there besides the garbage contacts that is what apple recommends. several mistakes with ping so far:
1. lack of integration with other social network feeds
2. no method to express ones self, it's purely a "salesman in your pocket" as was stated in an article recently
3. no true method to connect to other people because of #1 and
4. Uses your iTunes account to log in? wtf?
Probably the most half baked thing Apple has done.

Also, is anyone having trouble accessing Ping on an iPhone 4? Whenever I click ping it says "cannot connect to the iTunes store" I would like to be able to fully use this mobily.
I'm not even downloading iTunes 10. iTunes sucks in my world. If I didn't have to use it to sync my music, I'd never use it. I won't even let it sync automatically. Horrible product!
I'm not interested in it, but I did join just to check it out. I highly doubt I'll ever follow anyone or accept any followers. I joined Twitter a year ago and never used it, either.

Way to go apple on showing how much you suck with Ping. With over 160 Million users on itunes, you only netted 1 million in 2 days? So sad.
