Apple Posts MobileMe Improvements via iPhone 3.1, Snow Leopard, and Windows Control Panel

MobileMe WhisperSync Apple's Mobile Me News has posted a link to a new support article that details several improvements made to the online service following iPhone 3.1, Snow Leopard, and Windows Control Panel 5.1. Some of these are larger and already known, some smaller but still nice-to-haves:

  • Find My iPhone now has remote passcode lock, send sound at full volume regardless of ringer, and a warning that setting "fetch data" to manual stops Find My iPhone from working.
  • Calendar sync is automatic for subscribed calendars now.
  • MobileMe bookmarks can now be merged with local bookmarks during MobileMe setup.

For more, specifically the Snow Leopard and Windows Control Panel 1.5 updates, check out the full support article.

Ben Gillam says:

apple seriously need to pull their finger out and add bookmark sync for firefox already! at least for windows users. i dont like safari and use too many useful addins to firefox to make the move, and for now i have to keep using ie for bookmark sync :(

Plasmanut says:

Well, I'll be the first to say this, but I have a feeling I won't be the only one. I always welcome all MobileMe improvements, but until this Exchange mail issue is resolved, I can't see myself upgrading. Stuck at 3.0. GRRRRR!

firesign3000 says:

it's very doubtful apple will support any other browser than safari for bookmark sync (or pretty much anything else). as far as they're concernedif you want that feature, use safari on in windows too. as an alternative, i use xmarks. syncs all my bookmarks to firefox and safari on my macs, plus firefox on my windows and linux machines. very handy, and free too boot.

Christopher cox says:

@firesign
Actually iTunes on Windows supports sync with Internet Explorer so your argument is false. If they wanted to corral you into running Safari then they would not have let it sync with IE.

Muero says:

Why is Apple Software Update now showing me the iPhone Configuration Utility as a recommended install? Isn't that only for enterprise?

REG5566 says:

Mobile Me can't even set alerts from the calendar when using the Safari. This is a real pain in the neck.

Tone says:

when will we get alias for MobileMe on iPhone!???????

hand me the gun and ask me again says:

is 3.1 faster that 3? or is it just bug fixes ..? my phone has been so clunky since 2.2 .. :(

Mattshall says:

Screw firefox I want my chrome bookmarks

Joe McG says:

I really wish MobileMe would push other mail types to the iPhone, similar to what Blackberry does. I don't want to use an @me.com address.
I also wish they would update the iPhone to give you the option to reserve the last 10% or so of battery life and dedicate it to the Find My iPhone feature. As it stands now, if you lose your phone, chances are the battery would be dead before you could locate it...

Joe McG says:

@myself
OH SNAP! I think I just invented a feature for Apple...

DubbDee says:

Does anyone think that battery life is worse after the upgrade to 3.1? Mine seems to be losing juice a lot quicker than it did before I installed yesterday.

boandkris says:

About the bookmarks... If you use "Foxmarks" (free) it will sync all your browsers bookmarks with each other, then when you sync your iPhone with Safari, you will get ALL your bookmarks!

boandkris says:

Sorry, guess this is a better link:
http://www.xmarks.com/about/features/bookmark_sync
Works with IE, Firefox, and Safari.

Destiny Breuninger says:
