Looks like Apple is putting the finishing touches in place for tomorrow’s “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it” special music event, including the banners for the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, upon whose stage the festivities will kick off at 1pm ET/10am PT. (Join us on the front page for our usual meta live-blog of the show, followed by a special edition iPhone Live! at 8pm ET/5pm PT).

Now, with regards to the image being used (see above), it looks like fairly iconic, dare we say classic iPod fare — we thought they’d have transitioned to an iPod touch by now…

If you haven’t already, head on over to our poll and let us know what you think we’ll see at tomorrow’s event.

We linked to a WWDC banner a few days ago that highlighted iPhone apps. Looks like it wasn’t alone. Cocoia Blog has posted a few more pictures, another on apps (covering the entire front entrance facade of Moscone Center, above), and one on iPhone OS 3.0. Not so many for Mac OS X Snow Leopard, which simply retreads, and now has to share the “World’s most advanced operating system” tag. Check out the full post for more, but the disparity led them comment:

It does seem like the Mac is just a small side-note, though.

Since both run versions of OS X, and we’ve seen several times that technology from each one get factored back into the other (iPhone Quicktime is said to advanced Quicktime X for Snow Leopard), there’s no doubt plenty of work still going into both, but the emphasis may show where Apple thinks a lot of its future revenue and attention may lie…

Check out the hero shot above, and Adam’s Flickr page for more Moscone center goodness.

Obviously, the App Store, with 45,000+ apps and over 1 billion downloads, was the mobile success story of 2008 — if not one of the great software platform success stories of all time. That Apple is keeping it front and center might also just mean we ain’t seen nothing yet.

We won’t quibble about the date (App Store launched July 11, 2008 while WWDC 2009 launches June 8 with Phil Schiller at the helm), and we won’t bring up those still stupefying rejections — this time.

There’s less than a week to go, after all…

With WWDC only a weekend away, is it any surprise the rumors are flying faster than ever?

First up is Forbe‘s Brian Caulfield [who kindly corrected a blunder and provided a direct link to his story with tons o'pics-- many thanks!] with word of yet more mysterious boxes, this time at supposed current iPhone manufacturer Quanta. While some are labeled “iMac”, 20 others are in plain brown wrappers (no jokes!), with employees either unavailable or unwilling to dish the dirt. Of course, they could be anything… or they could be iPhone 3G’s or iTablets!

Next up we have the Flickr posted WWDC banners, which show the newly re-named iPhone OS X, which means either it’s the latest addition to everyone’s favorite band of mutant superheroes, or its been rebranded to match it’s big desktop banner (bannered no longer as Mac OS X, but as OS X Leopard… for now…)

Lastly is iDealsChina (also via Apple Insider), who previously leaked the Griffin “iPhone 3G” molds, now claiming Apple has made some last minute case changes making the next generation device 2mm (0.08 inches) shorter and 0.5mm (0.02 inches) thinner than the leaks previously showed. Anyone need a ton of suddenly scrap plastic?
