Apple dives deeper into education with new literacy program partnerships

Apple has taken a strong interest in expanding into the education segment of late, and its most recent move has only solidified the pivot even more. Today, Apple announced it is teaming up with nonprofit organizations in the US and Europe to offer media literacy programs to students.
The three organizations Apple is parterning up with are the News Literacy Project and Common Sense stateside, and Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori in Italy.
Apple will provide support to advance their efforts to guide and empower young students to enhance their critical thinkings skills needed for the media age we live in now. Here's what Tim Cook had to say about the partnership:
News literacy is vital to sustaining a free press and thriving democracy, and we are proud to be collaborating with organizations on the front lines of this effort. We've been impressed but the important work being down by the News Literacy Project, Common Sense, and Osservatorio, empowering young people to be active and engaged.
A basic understanding of critical thinking has always been encouraged in students off all ages, but especially early on in a child's development. Yet with the rise of misleading information in the advent of fake news, it has never been more important to educate young students. These three organizations do a great job to distinguish themselves in inspiring this type of critical thinking.
Apple has been one a staunch supporter of the free press, particular of late with its connection to it with its Apple News platform that seeks to provide a strong and reliable platform for it. Apple News editor-in-chief Lauren Kern pointed this out in her remarks of the new partnerships.
Apple News is committed to presenting quality journalism from trusted sources. We're thrilled that Apple is supporting organizations to train the next generation on how to seek out accurate and reliable information amid an increasingly complicated news landscape.
