Apple said to be preparing new R&D facility in Japan

Apple is reportedly preparing to build a new research and development facility in Japan. The new facility will apparently be on par with the larger R&D operations in other parts of Asia, Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo told a crowd at an election rally, according to Reuters:

"Apple has decided it undertake cutting-edge R&D in Japan," Jiji news service quoted Abe as saying in a campaign speech outside of Tokyo ahead of a general election on Sunday. "It will be formally announced soon."

The Prime Minister also said that Apple will formally announce the facility soon. Apple has offered no comment on the matter.
