iOS 8 Beta available to developers today

While everyone is still wrapping their heads around an amazing set of announcements for iOS 8, developers will be able to get their eyes and hands on the beta release of the software starting today. Though they will of course be restricted in what they can show and tell outside of a development setting, getting developers early access to iOS 8 means they can start building new apps and optimizing old ones to be in tip-top shape when the bits land on consumer devices later in the year.

When iOS finally makes its way out to end consumers this fall, it'll be available on the following devices:

  • iPhone 4s, 5, 5c, 5s
  • iPod Touch 5th generation
  • iPad 2, 3, Air, mini, Retina mini

Keeping you up to date with mobile news and analysis since 1989.

  • So Happy With Apple!!! Go Ahead Guys!! Ipad Mini Gets iOS Update Yiepieeee
  • Apple killed it today! Android can suck a ****! Now bigger iPhone and it will be long and painful fall! :-)))))
  • A lot of those 'features' that are new to you today, Android has been doing for a long long time.
  • +1 I used Android prior to iOS & its just refreshing that iOS will finally have these features. Each OS has its pluses & minuses, its all about personal preference.
  • Exactly,
As the 3 major players are getting more refined and borrowing more and more from each other, there is becoming much less reason to bash other users, because guess what, their experience isn't much different than yours.
  • Totally agree!!!
  • I had Note 2 and Note 3 and I know what piece of sh*t is Android (touchwiz, stock, custom rom) even if they make phones fly... And it's not about features, it's about how they work in the end of the day... And with Android.. Features are gimmics.. Apple always do and put thing you will actually use.. And this is the big difference.. Love it.. :-)))
  • Ha... there is your problem. Samsung =/= Android. So if I am getting this right. When it is on an Android phone it is a "gimmick" but when it is on an iPhone it is a "useful feature". Riiiiiighttttt......
  • No you are not getting this right.. When it's in Android they make it half baked.. It works 30% of the time.. Or doesn't work at all.. See S5's fingerprint.. See m8 great phone but the camera is ... no comment.. Everything there is half baked..For Apple it can take a while to add something what's in android for years, but when do it, it works 99% of the time.. And I know you are Android fan/user and I don't understand what you are doing here.. Trolling?
  • I couldn't possibly use both platforms right? That is why I am here. Again Samsung is not Android. Someone disagrees with you and they are a troll. Apple does a lot well, but there is a lot they don't do so great. iOS7 was definitely not polished with first released, and definitely did not work 99% of the time. Android is not half baked, it just offers a different experience. It has it's cons, but so does iOS.
  • Shhh that is a foreign concept to the die hard apple fans. I mean there is no way that I use a 5s as my phone and a nexus 7 as my tablet. That is unheard of. You must be fully entrenched in the apple camp to visit this site /s
It's crazy the hatred towards android that IOS users have. Competition is great and I am glad apple finally implemented these features and I am sure once the new android version comes out they will have things that once again make apple raise the bar. That is a good thing. Not sure why people want no competition and no innovation.
  • That's so not true!! Unfortunately there are a few people that will never understand why someone doesn't own all iOS or all Android devices but its definitely not the majority. If you notice, its the same people that are arguing about this stuff day in & day out.
  • Great post. We have both systems under my roof. iOS is really clean and simple to use. My kids love their iPad and can't handle the soft keys of my Nexus 7. Android meets the business criteria my wife and I both need while offering different options for phone manufacturer, phone size, camera & launcher. Posted via iMore App
  • Funny you mention all these OEM's who don't make android. and how does the M8 camera have anything to do with android? It is HTC not android.
  • +1
  • I second that... Sent from the iMore App
  • Couldnt agree more Sent from the iMore App
  • Lol here's something even better.. BB10 had most of those features as well.
  • Its not about who had the features first and for how long. Its about your preferred OS finally getting another feature to make your experience that much better.
  • +1 iMore App via Nexus 5.
  • It's out now. I have it downloaded and getting ready to install.
  • Can you Download iOS 8 Beta for iPhone 5 (A1428) version and share to us please...
  • Downloads can not be shared... your device would have to be registered in the Apple Developer program in order to load the beta... and to do that, you'd have to either register as a full fledged developer, or know one who can add you and your device's UDID under their developer account with Apple. And it's all subject to non-disclosure agreements.
  • Are we pretending like there aren't other ways to install iOS Betas that require none of that? Posted via the Android iMore App!
  • Not at all!!! We're simply stating that unauthorized d/l of the beta is not something that iMore condones. If you want it another way, you won't get that info here.
  • Has anyone downloaded it? Please reply back with comments Sent from the iMore App
  • Didn't mean to post so many times! SORRY Sent from the iMore App
  • If you dont mean to post so many times then dont. Trolling/ spamming is not going to help your demand. Relax
  • When you click submit after writing a comment from the imore app it doesn't immediately show as being added, but rather stays on the "write a comment" screen. I guess I'll learn for the next time Sent from the iMore App
  • A jailbreak would be useless for me, but I hope it won't take developers too long to update their apps for the iOS 8. Sent from the iMore App
  • I'm in luck as all my iDevices can run iOS 8 :-)
