Sprint's Wi-Fi calling now supported on select iPhone models with iOS 8.3

Sprint announced that customers running the recently-released iOS 8.3 update are now able to use the carrier's Wi-Fi calling feature. The same capabilities came to customers on U.K. carrier EE earlier today. A new Wi-Fi Calling option will appear in the Settings app on iOS after you update to iOS 8.3 to let you switch the feature on.

Wi-Fi calling allows you to make calls over your Wi-Fi network instead of a cellular connection. Sprint's Wi-Fi calling on the iPhone is supported on devices from the iPhone 5c to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

  • When I turned on WiFi calling I had an alert, "If you turn on Wi-Fi calling, your other devices will no longer be able to make or receive calls through your iPhone." Assuming this applies to MacBook Pro. Is this a Sprint only thing or standard with all WiFi calling? Will it effect Apple Watch?
  • T-Mobile is the same.
  • I'm on Sprint and I didn't get an option for wi if calling after the update. I called Sprint and they insist the iPhone's don't support wi if calling. Sent from the iMore App
  • Update carrier Info after updating to 8.3 by going to about phone. After you update carrier info, head to the phone setting and look for wifi calling. :) Sent from the iMore App
  • This is what was needed, thanks!
  • Thank you, some one knows how to give proper effing directions!
  • There is also no option on my sprint iPhone 6 for WiFi calling...although I did turn off all cellular and tried making a call over just WiFi and it worked Sent from the iMore App
  • To get to the option it is under the "phone" setting then "wifi calling". I currently have mine activated and it adds "sprint WIFI" on the status bar and then the wifi bars next to it
  • Got it. Thanks. Sent from the iMore App
  • Go to "about phone" and update carrier settings, then go to the phone setting and from there you'll see wifi calling Sent from the iMore App
  • Thanks. I have found it. Sent from the iMore App
  • How do you get it to make a WiFi call? I've turned the setting on, but whenever I dial a call, I hear the three beeps of my Airrave handling the call. Never mind, I got it. The splash screen with the 911 info never popped up the first time, so the setting turned itself back off.
  • Be nice if we could get this on AT&T. Sent from the iMore App
  • yay it worked! You'll have to update your 911 emergency address before you can start using wifi but it's really nice! Can't wait to try it out at the office tomorrow.
  • I hve iphone 5s 16gb, its become extremely hit up while watching movie or playing games on my device, is there any solution to keep cooling down..tq. Sent from the iMore App
  • I had a similar issue on my 5S a few months ago. It worked itself out but generally I recommend a wipe and restore via iTunes then a data restore via iTunes.
  • Hi. Does anyone know if it's working outside US/UK. I live in Sweden and can buy Sprint or EE on eBay.
