Doh!, Wrong its the PowerVR SGX “Using OpenGL ES on iPad is identical to using OpenGL ES on other iPhone OS devices. An iPad is a PowerVR SGX device and supports the same basic capabilities as other SGX devices. However, because the processor, memory architecture, and screen dimensions are different for iPad, you should always test your code on an iPad device before shipping to ensure performance meets your requirements.”

After watching the iPad video and reading about Mali, i think if the iPad does use a Mali GPU its the 200 or 400 like zeagus said in his post. If apple can get the battery life right and use the a4 along with an HD screen in the iPhone G4, i would gladly give up my jailbreak to have something that responds that fast. 512 mb of ram wouldn’t hurt either

A developer friend shared with me that he suspects that it is the older brother Mali 200 or 400 rather than the rather dumber Mali 50 series. The 200 adds programmable vertex and fragment shaders.

MALI? Unlikely. Apple bought stocks in Imagination for a reason, they wanted to integrate PowerVR into their own designs.

So, it’s more of an Apple assemblage of ARM components rather than anything PA Semi unique,

They bought PA-Semi to acquire the skill set to do this kind of packaging. Apple has not had that stuff in house for many years now, and the quickest way to get it back was buy it. It might not be a PA-Semi designed from the ground up processor, but they haven't done much of that at this level anyway.

So yeah, it has Pa-Semi fingerprints all over it.
