iPhone OS 4 beta 4 reveals future iPod and iPad camera flash

It was only a matter of time that developers searched through the latest iPhone OS 4 beta to find secret goodies and this time we see that the next generations of the iPod and iPad both may receive a LED camera flash (which we guess also presupposes they're receive cameras, right?). The code is as follows:

FLASHDISABLEDiPad = "The iPad needs to cool down before you can use the flash.";

FLASHDISABLEDiPod = "The iPod needs to cool down before you can use the flash.";

Knowing that it is highly likely the next generation of iPad will contain a camera with flash, anyone out there regretting picking up the first generation? Or after the iPod touch incident last year, can we even be sure it'll make it into the next shipping product? Sound off in the comments!

    does the iPad really need a camera? I can see a front facing camera for iChat... I would feel like a big dufus holding up the iPad to take a photo...

  2. Exit925 says:

    There's always a market for used apple products. That will be the time to trade up!

  3. jonar1us says:

    Front facing camera (wit a possible flash) NOT an actual back camera

  4. slb says:

    You jokers. They mean Adobe Flash. Don't you read Steve's emails?

  5. Websyndicate says:

    Cool to see adobe coming soon

  6. Michael says:

    Love my ipad and it doesn't need a camera so I don't feel like I lost anything by buying early. And websyndicate. Really? Are you a moron or a troll?

  7. Aaron says:

    @Mr79 I agree!

  8. Dean says:

    well i bought the iPad knowing/hoping that the second generation will have a camera... that's why i only bought the 16 gb... and slb's argument that they are talking about adobe's flash kinda makes sense... my macbook always gets so hot when i use flash... im hoping for both...

  9. Adrian says:

    No regrets about 2nd gen possibilities with the iPad, Camera 'Mr79 and @Aaron are right - it isn't the sort of device you would expect a camera on.

  10. Freiteez says:

    @mr79 I agree too. That's why I'm holding off on one. iChat ftw

  11. Devin Briggs says:

    What about for iPhone???

  12. ich bin ein iPhoner says:

    @Devin: We already know the next iPhone has a flash and a front facing camera from the numerous leaks of the prototype.

    For anyone interested, the code also contains information for communicating with OS X 10.7.

  13. David says:

    But it says "the flash" not just "flash." So I would think it's just camera flash and not Flash. We all knew this anyway with the rivalry that is ensuing between Apple and Adobe.

  14. Björn says:

    @slb, I took what u were saying as a joke - that's why I laughed when I read it! C'mon people, the man asked if you read Steve's emails. Lol

  15. slb says:

    Björn, there's hope for humanity yet. Thank you my friend.

  16. clkeith says:

    Considering the limitations of the iPad, there's no way in hell it could ever replace even a cheap digital camera. I don't regret buying mine, but I probably won't ever trade up to a newer one.

  17. iphones says:

    nah no camera needed
