Apple support says there are no current plans to offer Siri on older devices
Not really a great surprise to be honest, but when contacted by a developer about the chances of Siri coming to older iPhone and iPod touch models, Apple support responded with:
Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue: Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices.
Did anyone really expect Apple support to announce future product plans or feature support? In the meantime, it looks like users of older devices will have to rely on the unofficial method that may or may not be released.

Well, that sucks for everyone with older devices, at this time. It should be noted that they state that they "currently" don't have plans to support older devices, perhaps that will change when Siri is no longer a beta. We already know that they are lying about Siri only working on the iPhone 4s, in fact, it even works on the 3GS, so it would seem as though they are predictably motivated by profits from the sale of the iPhone 4s, as Siri is one of the main selling points of that device.
Agree. For the same reason how Android users will have to shell out money for a new phone if they want the next OS--Ice Cream Sandwich. I'll wait and see what 2012 has in store for us.
Love them or hate them Apple knows how to run a business to turn a profit. If they don't make Siri available to older devices there is a greater chance the phone will be upgraded or replaced. I don't think its fair to say they don't take care of their customers. When was the last time the auto industry retrofitted an older vehicle with newer vehicle options. It just doesn't happen that way.

Bad analogy, Upgrading a car would require physical changes, it's the equivalent of a hardware upgrade. Siri is software that is part of an OS that was provided to all older devices. If apple wanted to port it over to the 4 it would have been trivial to do so.

My point is if you want the latest and greatest you have to buy the new model whether its a vehicle or a phone or a toothbrush. That is called good marketing which we know Apple is a master of. I know we all want something for nothing but it's not going to happen with Siri. Besides Siri requires an extra IR hardware sensor so that in itself is a deal breaker. PS just because you don't agree with my analogy doesn't make it wrong.
Oh well, first IOS 5 completely messed up my sync with iTunes, now the best features will only be comming to newer devices, regardless of the fact that there is nothing stopping iPhone 4 to run Siri, nothing but Apple policy that is.

Come on, y'all. Do you really think they will take her back to older devices? Siri is something that will push development and the limits as Apple continues to advance the iPhone. Asking for it on the iPhone 4 is asking them to take a step backwards. They are pushing towards the next generation, to be released in Summer 12, instead of looking back towards the old, iPhone 4. This is a smart move, and in my opinion, the right move for Apple. If you're on a 4 then just get ready for this summer when the new one comes out. Otherwise, get a 4s and enjoy!

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but there's a free app called Vlingo. Honestly, it works pretty much just as good as Siri. In some ways, like when updating social statuses, even better. You can just say "Twitter update: bla bla bla" and it will do it because you can directly link Twitter and Facebook to Vlingo (from what I read it seems that's not possible with Siri). The only thing it doesn't do is talk back to you; it just does what you say. Seriously, check it out.
I think they will release Siri from beta after the holidays (possibly with a x.1 release), and, with that release, Apple will allow iPad 2 and iPhone 4 to utilize the service. Apple wants to sell as many 4S's as they can through the holiday season, first. That's my thought, anyway.

Based on your context, and punctuation, I can't really tell if you do or don't agree; however, my argument FOR my thought is that the 4S is the most capable device to beta test such a service as Siri (key word is "most"). This offers a "two-for" for Apple... A) they can see how it works in the general population on a mass scale, and B) it will create a coveted feature only available on one device (which is priced higher than the previous models), thus causing abandonment of current iPhone 4's (whether you currently own one, or not) for 4S's during the busiest quarter of the fiscal year. Again... that's just my thought.

I absolutely agree that Apple wants to continue selling the iPhone 4S well into the other three quarters of the fiscal year, however, they are still offering the iPhone of yesteryear, and the year prior, at great prices. They will continue to offer a better-priced (or economic, or whatever gets your rocks off) iPhone, however, I believe the initial push for the iPhone 4S is limited to maybe the first of the year (or shortly thereafter), then they will offer Siri to, at least, the iPhone 4 and iPad 2. What gets me, they take an app that already worked, and shut it down, then put it on an upgraded iPhone 4 like it is this new fantastic app.

Every 1 i found siri on AppStore it's called voice actions and it works !!
It says "currently' so that can change.
Why would they? They want to sell new devices.
