LifeProof iPhone Case

LifeProof case for the iPhone 4S review [giveaway]

While at the most recent Show Stoppers event, I had the opportunity to check out the LifeProof case for iPhone 4S (and iPhone 4). Protection is always key for any of our beloved electronics, and whether you are a mountain biker, a swim lover, or a karate king trying to keep your iPhone protected while doing your favorite event is a struggle -- until you meet LifeProof. The folks at LifeProof have spent a lot of time (over two years) designing this case, and a whole lot of money (over two million dollars) into making sure that their product was the best to hit the market.

Whether in rain, snow, ice, dirt, sand, or any other horrid condition you can think of with your device the folks at LifeProof know that their case can protect your device without you needing to take any additional precautions. So, does the case really hold up to its name? Let's take a look at some video action and check out some more images of the case on the device.

Pretty impressive stuff, huh? Not just everyday would you trust a case enough to just toss it in a tank of water, or drop it from six feet onto the ground without cringing in fear of what damage was just done to the device. We know, you understand that it can keep the device protected, but you want to know how much bulk it adds to your device, and if it is comfortable in the hand, right? Well, short answer, yes -- and let's take a look at why.

LifeProof Case not on iPhone

Personally I always fear the super protective cases because I know you need to add bulk to protect, and often times companies love to go overboard with the bulk, and it makes holding the device feel unnatural, and it no longer comfortably fits in your hand and pocket, but this case is different, very different. Adding only 1/16 of an inch, or 1.5mm, and adding less than an ounce of weight, to say the case is surprisingly small would be an understatement.

Side buttons of LifeProof Case for iPhone

Featuring a two piece snap together design the case fits very snug over the device, making getting the case on and off a bit of a struggle, but that is their intentions for the waterproof seal that the case offers.  The top piece includes an attached scratch resistant and waterproof screen protector that still allows for complete operation of the touch screen, and with the waterproof seal around the edge of the case you don't have to worry about any dirt or dust getting under there.

Top of LifeProof Case for iPhone

The headphone jack is sealed by a screw in cap that can be removed and they include a headphone extension that screws in for those of us who wish to use their headphones will keeping the device protected. The charging port is covered by a flip down piece that seals very tightly. The cut out will allow chargers to be plugged in to the device without the removal of the case, and LifeProof also offers a dock extender that plugs into the charging port and allows the device to be docked with the case on.

Screw in Headphone Jack

Overall the case does an extremely good job at protecting the device while adding minimal bulk to the slim profile of your iPhone 4S (or iPhone 4). The look of the case is quite plain, but they do offer a few different color selections such as black, white, pink, and purple, and the color covers the complete device, including the front so you can make it appear as though you have a totally different color iPhone than you really do!

We are giving away our review unit; it was used slightly (don't worry it isn't the one in the test video!) and it is in near perfect condition. Simply leave a comment letting us know what kind of abuse you put your iPhone through that requires LifeProof to protect it.

My phone and my hands are always soon parted. Need to protect it from the floor better.

My last phone really enjoyed swimming in the hurricane this August. As a result, I had no phone until the 4s came out and now Im ready to make sure its protected. As a triathlete, this case will really help me out with my training...

THANK YOU! For this review! I have been trying to decide between the Otterbox Defender and this LifeProof case and now I think I finally have my answer, this case looks awesome!
Whether its our 3-year-old deciding to try flushing the phone down the toilet, fishing it out of the purse to throw it out the car window while driving down the freeway, or hiding it in the vents, I truly need serious protection for my new iphone 4s which I'm currently anticipating this week!
It would be really great, though, if I could save some much needed cash by being able to win this giveaway case instead of having to buy one new! Here's hoping!

Tlruse says:

I got pushed into my pool by my older brother and it got drenched. It also fell out of my pocket when I was walking down the stairs and the screen broke.

Michael B. says:

Lets put it this way, I spent more on insurance claims than I payed for my phones.

Stephen M Bell says:

I work in a cotton gin and i have lost an iphone in a gin saw. That's the saw that removes the cotton seeds from the cotton. Drop them constantly when I'm loading up bails of cotton onto the trucks. I work hard, need a case that can put up with it.

Jo says:

I drop my iPhone 4 every 10 seconds. I carry it everywhere, always (even in the bathroom). I have bought more cases for it then I can count and I am on my 3rd bumper (those I can count). I need to LifeProof my iPhone AND my life.

MrsWinkle says:

I tried to think of something clever to write about but then I realized I should just spend the $80. I never win these things. I like to camp and backpack and snorkel any chance I get. This case would be a huge help!!!!

I love to take my iPhone in the hot tub with me so i can hear my tunes, play games and of course talk on the phone, I usually spend over a our a day in this steely tub which makes my phone pretty slick. When I get out of the hot tub my little kids think its their turn to play and get it wet and sticky.
I could really use one of these ases thanks

ploo says:

I'm dying to go swimming with this case and try underwater shots for my flickr...always wanted to try it but never had a waterproof camera! Cheers.

Jon Bunag says:

Firefighter. Need toughness on all my EDC's. Enough said.

Jim says:

I am a firefighter in North Dakota. I spend a lot outside in the snow so It would be nice to have a case like this to protect my new iPhone. I have been a bit concerned about breaking my new phone.

Robin says:

Well, it's not so much myself who puts MY iPhone into dangerous situations....but for some reason when I wake up I continually find YouTube open with Dora or some other cartoon ready to play. Hmmm, which of my young girls was it this time?????? I think that a LifeProof case would provide me with an added comfort level.

Littlebuddy says:

I have no hand-eye coordination, I drop everything. I have been considering "stick'em" or a LIFEPROOF CASE!!

Jhynds says:

This is the perfect case for my boyfriend. If I won I would just give it to him. We have both owned every iPhone and every year he ends up breaking his at least once. If there is anyone I can think of that needs a case like this it's definitely him. For one he is a landscaper and he uses the iPhone all day at work so the dirt and water protection will come in handy. Also we spend a bunch of time each year at his house in brazil, where they have tiled concrete floors, and he is always dropping his iPhones ... So a case that can stand up to more than a fair share of abuse would be appreciated. Especialy since I'm always the one who has to take his broken iPhones to the genius bar. By the way I had to post as guest because tipb kept logging me out for some reason.

Penny says:

No vote. If your boyfriend can afford a house in Brazil, he can buy a Lifeproof.

21b9745d says:

I am always around water, water pump is my business, I could use a case that is water proof more so than my otter box which is a bit disappointing

Emma H says:

I've always been a little rough around the edges (of my beloved iPhone). It hasn't helped since I started my new job which takes me across the country putting on extreme running races (Warrior Dash check it out!) My phone is subject to dirt, mud, sand, wild life, lots of sweat and everything in between! It even risks the occasional fall on concrete on the windy streets of Chicago

Jescabell21 says:

I have destroyed two iphone 4's already. Not doing anything super serious. Once while I was climbing into my car (it is a cute little 97 chevy cavalier), dropped it and it shattered. Well the other time, I am not going to lie about. I was at a party, went outside to make a phone call and it fell out of my hands onto the street. The real kicker. I got an otterbox right after that. Stepped on it with my ice skate and the otterbox case shattered! I thought it was indestructible.
On a daily basis, I do normal daily things like bringing it everywhere with me, that includes bringing it on the ice with me. We take videos of each other skating to see what we did wrong or right. You drop your phone once on the ice and it is done for! I have seen it happen to a few girls and coaches already. It is not pretty.
Side note, I go to college in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The weather goes like this Spring, 4th of july, fall, W I N T E R. It is also more unpredictable than a college students sleep schedule. We get the lake effect snow and rain. I am also a poor college student (what college student isn't though?).
I would like (REALLY NEED) a case that can be protected from breaking because Apple said they would no longer replace it for free. Plus I really like my phone. I can facetime with my parents when I am studying at the library or walking to class. Iphone 4's, I am pretty sure are the only phones that can do so.

Ben Bipes says:

Always on the road, in and out of the car, so I tend to drop the phone a lot, leave it on counters near drinks, and read the news or listen to tunes in the bathroom, shower, etc.

Wserda says:

Imagine an old and bald 40-something trying to hang-on to any part of his youth. Picture a jeep where everything is subject to the elements, a jet ski with no "stay-dry" compartment and saltwater everywhere, and the needs of a run-down home with a do-it-yourself owner. I presently have a septic tank and drain field problem..a real cruddy problem that needs a lot of "hand-on" time.

Blarock08 says:

In the last 18 months I have dropped my iphone twice while navigating the streets of Manhattan (once requiring replacement). I bike 40 miles a week and my job requires me to work outside most of the year. I love my iphone but I am unintentionally brutal with it. This case looks awesome.

Mcde04 says:

You are a strange one James, does it depend on which way the wind is blowing as to whether you are extremely well off or very very very poor?

Savnrmemries says:

A case like this would have helped save his phone when my daughter (age two or three at the time) threw his phone into a fish pond at the local home improvement store. Needless to say, it didn't survive the swim as well as your iPhone did! Would love to win this case for my new iPhone even though my kids are a bit older now!

Rockdogz97 says:

I wrestle alligators for a living and need a tough as nails case like this to keep up with me.. THink LiveCase can handle it?

John Brian Silverio says:

I'm about to buy it but I have a few concerns like the screen protector not flat and creating problems on the touchscreen, and some echo problems according to reviews. I hope these issues are addressed on the new version.

Engineno9 says:

I've taken it with me, accidentally, into a few burning buildings!!! Needless to say, the phone has survived every accident, but I can't afford to keep buying cases. Especially on a fireman's salary!!!

Sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Watchin’ my phone wash away,
Waitin’ for the tide to come in
Perhaps my phone’ll come back again;
Hey! I’m off my butt yeah, the first time in days –
My phone is tossing at the edge of the waves;
Down the pier and around to the beach,
That Lifeproof case I stole, is really a peach,
Like that Timex watch that used to tick through it all,
The phone’s okay, barnacles, and hermit crabs, and all.
So I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay,
Just dialing away,
Callin' you before your IPhone can fall,
Which would drive you right up your wall,
Move your butt, and steal a case for yourself - since those Lifeproof cases
Move so fast they can’t be found on the shelf,
Stash it quick in your pocket or bag,
You can make it fast because it's slim and light and not sticky,
So it won’t drag,
Or write a poem that’s too silly to fail
And see if the folks at Lifeproof let you have one,
Just to keep you out of jail.

Don't know why my entry showed up three times! My apologies to all readers. Vote for me anyway!

Writer Guy says:

Good literature is always worth re-reading. I hope you get the Lifeproof case.

Mr Writer says:

It often is worth re-reading. However if Otis Redding read this tripe he would excrete a lung. I hope you do get the case just so you don't write any more.

Writer Guy says:

She meant, at this price every Lifeproof is a steal of a deal.

Genny Doodler says:

I'm poor and I also think I'm hilarious. I wear a lot of pink. I'm sixty. I hoot it up down at the beach with my Dog Daisy, every day. I wrote that poem, below, by Genny Doodler. And I'm no writer, I watched your ad, and I was inspired.
My poem should have mentioned pollution and oil slicks, and those smelly things that are gray. My Lifeproof case would keep my IPhone safe through it all, and my hands have this annoying tremor, so my phone often falls.
I may be older but I still sing and dance and skate. I go skiing in the winter although I'm kinda overweight. I go swimming with my dog at the dog park; in summer there's not a dry day. She shakes sand all over my IPhone, but Lifeproof is dirt-proof, so that would be okay.
I leave my phone in the car for the family to use. My daughter ran out of gase once, it was a day full of abuse. We can't afford three cell phones, and the place our one should secure is the container my kids are driving in. The car has crash protection, and so should the phone. The laptops are in Halliburton, but the IPhone clatters around with the loose coins in the drink cup, so it could die of clattering, or it could, someday, drown. And don't think that's not an emergency! I need my IPhone GPS, to figure out how to get home from the market, because I tend to forget.
A used Lifeproof would be perfect; it doesn't have to be new. It just has to be pretty darn lifeproof, like my kids and me and you. I try to equip my kids with common sense, to keep them on their path. I'd like a Lifeproof to keep them safe in the car, if they are running out of gas.

Writer Guy says:

You did write that poem? You sat by the dock of the bay and dumped your IPhone? I've done that. Whatta bust. Right in the oil slick.

Jim says:

The floor (gravity). The street (somehow it happens). The toilet (2 pagers over the years... hopefully never my phone). Soda / Pop / "Coke" (I spill it... often). Laundry Machine (clean phone... it was a miracle that it still worked). Hand Sanitizer (hospital work). Teeth & Gums (iPhones are delicious to some babies). Hockey Puck Effect (iPhone slides across the floor and just when you are about to pick it up you accidentally kick it and it slides a little further). Stairs (good exercise... but not so good for phones). Mud (and lots of it). I need help!

Random_hero says:

Let's just say I'm on my 3rd iPhone 4S......
One victim to the lake and one victim to the concrete...

Wbrady63 says:

I'm a 18 year old kid that is always white water rafting and wanting pictures on the trips but I can't cause I don't bring my phone. I am always outside doing something that I can't have my phone on me cause it will either get wet or break. When winter comes I want to be able to sled and video while sledding. Also my otterbox is way to bulky for me. I'm also poor and trying to pay for college so don't have money for one right now. Please give me the lifeproof case.

Kyle says:

Im a teenage boy. If that isnt enough said, my new iPhone has already been dropped quite a few times in the week Ive had it, and has a couple of nicks to the metal housing already where my current case doesnt cover. I also did not have the money to purchase AppleCare+ with my phone, so if something unfortunate does happen Ill be out an iPhone...

Please could you send me the life proof case so I can protect my awesome new phone from my clumsiness?

Would totally love this case. It's the perfect balance for me between work and play. I can't lie... I want to go swimming with the phone. That's just too cool.

ex-CrackberryAddict says:

Even though i am the number 6 hundred and something post...I truly deserve this case to protect my brand new and BELOVED iPhone 4S! Why do i deserve it? Well for one this is my first apple iPhone! And from what did i convert to it? A BlackBerry! Yes i know iPhone owners hate BlackBerrys and Androids, but pity and look down on the Berry owners (yeah i know how it feels first hand cause i've been the one taking the criticism and attacks)... I have been a loyal Blackberry user (even though i own a MacBook Pro and an iPod touch), but those days are over. Gone are the days of being loyal for years and not seeing progress. Gone are the days of trying to convince myself that my device is better than anything out there. Gone are the days of loving apple products but sticking with the inferior device even though i knew what the other side offered! Gone are the days at Crackberry! (yeah i bet tipb.com mods and users love this hahaha)! The new days have arrived! I finally decided to go full blown apple and get the iPhone 4s, simply because i thought it was the best device out there. After using it just a week i can safely say i DO NOT KNOW HOW I DIDN'T DO THIS EARLIER. The change is like going from a hooptie 1970 VolksWagon bug and getting upgraded to a Brand New 2011 Buggati Veyron! Amazing Speed, Looks Great, Handles like a Dream, and the Power is Blazing!
Now lets get to the real stuff! The main reason i did not get an iPhone before is because of the full touchscreen. Yes you heard it, i did not want a full touchscreen phone! No I'm not gonna moan and whine and state how amazing it is for a phone to have a full physical keyboard, but in my case it was more of a necessity! I have owned some full touchscreen devices in the past, and what has happened? The screen gets cracked of breaks! That leave me with no choice but to change or dispose of my phone! Without the screen, that means no use for the phone even if everything else works! Fixing the screen is Ok but it just cracks again somewhere down the line. The need of the physical keyboard was more for having the phone work after the screen is cracked! At least i was able to call and answer phones with it, even though the phone was pretty useless after that. I always wanted to try an iPhone but had this big worry about touchscreens! Seeing my friends with cracked iPhones (3g and 4) did not help my confidence as well! But i made the plunge because i simply cannot resist the AMAZINGNESS that is an iPhone. Full blown apple user now, so therefore full blown tipb.com follower too! So, why does a phone destroying, ex BlackBerry user deserve this case? Well if that wasn't enough stuff to digest! The mere fact that an iPhone 4S life is at stake should be the final nail in the coffin! I have suffered enough in the past (thanks RIM), but with this case my iPhone will not suffer the same troubles i have been through!
Thanks Tipb for the contests, new membership, and Good Luck to all on the contest!

I'm a personal chef who listens to music and podcasts while cooking. Last year at a client's house, while climbing down from a chair to get a sheet pan out of an overhead cabinet, I caught my earbud wire on the cabinet knob, which yanked my iPhone out of my apron pocket and right into a simmering crockpot full of Hungarian Goulash.
That was phone #3. Previous phones had corroded dock connectors (car charger left dangling from the socket onto wet/muddy floor mats), and a cracked glass/broken camera from a random drop in the mall. Now that I have my precious new iPhone #4, it really needs to be protected. From me.

Jason Krumholz says:

Hello TiPb...a great website! Well, I'm fairly rough on all gadgets, and so I expect my iPhone 4S to collect many bumps and bruises along the way, but would like to survive my 2-yr contract looking good. Everyday abuse will include the dropping in a crowded place with no carpet, falling into the carseat Grand Canyon where it always gets a scratch, and the ever present walking the plank scenario (I'm peeing).
More adventurous stuff...I'll be hiking Appalachian Trails with rock scrambles, rain, mud, and the occassional embarrasing fall (that bruised my last phone, and my hip). I like to jog, so everything gets sweaty. Snowboarding is dangerous to the phone and me since I fall on the phone every other fall. And my skydiving hobby of 6 years is going strong...so the phone needs to survive running into other jumpers and crash landings...or the occasional landing far from where I was suppose to. So it needs to work.
Looking forward to hearing where I finish!

It could be in the embalming room, while splattering chemicals and body fluids can cover my phone, or it could be at the cemetery where it is raining and risks dropping in the grave. It would be nice to be able to pull my phone out in a torrential down pour and offer it to a grieving widow who wanted to call a child in the military who was not able to attend his father's funeral. That is where LifeProof could take me. Thanks.

I did have and iPod it was in a case and it kept it clean I was at the airport going to see my son. I had to go to the bathroom so I put my iPod on my bag so when I turned around my iPod decided it wanted to go for a swim in the toilet it got to swim for a few minutes before I was missing it and that’s when I found it I grabbed it up and tried to dry it off I put it in some rice for three days and it steal wouldn’t work so I sent off and they could not fix it so now it’s dead. I just got the new iphone s and wanted a real good case for it I almost got the otter box then I saw the lifeproof case and it was water proof and it looked good and I’m always around water and I don’t want to lose my new phone to the water monster so I put it in a lifeproof case and I love it so for thank you so much.

As a sponsored freestyle skier, I'm constantly flipping and spinning over 60 foot gaps as well as dropping 30 foot cliffs. It would be nice to not have to worry about my unprotected iPhone 4S, especially considering my last iphone is in pieces.

Would really like one of these. I have the body glove that has a clip that I clip on my pocket. I am 24/7 support for iPhone and iPads where I work at as well as coordination and installation of computers and printers so I crawl around on the floor under desks where all the dust bunnies and escaped food items hide. Can get pretty gross at times.

My 11 month old! Had a 3GS and just upgraded to a 4S and want to make sure she doesn't destroy it lol. Plus we have a special needs 3 year old who loves to try and play games on it. This would be great!

Aldesad says:

Well I have the Otterbox Defender right now and yes it protected my iPhone 4 from scratches and falls. But not from dust. Due to my kind of work, (Maintenance mechanic), I always crawl, go over, and under machineries. And my phone sometimes will fall or drag while doing my work. So I think I'm a good candidate for that case that you're giving away. =)

Has the giveaway ended? I have three little ones, I'm always on the move, iPhone is a work line, "home phone line" and cell phone. In and out the door, phone in pocket, in the kitchen while I cook, in the bathroom while I shower children, in and out in all weather with work and children activities. Hope the giveaway didn't end yet. My iPhone is the life line of communication outside out household!

Well, you don't win contests by being pathetic, but I have Parkinson's disease and drop all my things again and again and again. We laugh about it because I've always been a speedy go-getter moving at "Mach 2 with my hair on fire." Withe the speed at which I move combined with the shake in my hands, when something slips out of my fingers it tends to fly across the room and crash against the nearest surface. Since the nearest surface always seems to be tile wall or a hardwood floor, there's lots of breakage around here! What with living on disability and taking care of a dog, two cats, and the occasional ice cream requirements life presents, scaring up the money for the IPhone 4s has taken a while. Good thing it did! The 4s is fabulous for me since my fingers shake and I can't text! :( So... want to help me be safe with my new toy while I scream around town at my favorite speed? I'd like that!

My iPhone is in constant danger. I work at an aquarium with a pick pocket octopus that has been greedily eyeing my new 4S. I have a team of angry girlfriends that like to throw my phone at various walls and wall like surfaces (floors, ceilings). I have a habit of talking to Siri while I'm in the shower. She keeps telling me to get back to work, though. I eat snow cones all the time, but I'm kind of clumsy, so the snowproofing will definitely come in handy.
And THIS... is why I need to lifeproof my phone.

I work in a small ski resort & it is below freezing 60% of the time. I am a real estate broker & I am always answering my phone while getting in and out of the car, walking in knee deep snow, going up & down stairs. I’m always dropping it because my hands are too full of information pamphlets, their cold, wet or I’m just being in a hurry and fumbling. In a few days I will be getting a smart phone (iphone 4s) for the 1st time. Mostly because my son & daughter both have one & when they come home to visit they tell me how much they love theirs.
I hear these lifeproof covers are a "must have" for an iphone with the conditions here. I am excited and nervous but looking forward to a new experience and a new phone. Thank's for the opportunity to put in for this giveaway, thought I’d at least give it a try.

Marty Woods says:

I use my iphone to fight, manage & document forest fires either on the ground or by helicopter & airplane. My job in the US Forest Service has me in extreme conditions, desert heat, monsoons avalanches and obviously fire , smoke dirt & water. I am based in Las Vegas NV where temperatures on the desert floor can exceed 120 and on the mountain 45 minutes away can drop below 0. During a normal fire assignment it is common for me to work 16 hours a day for 2 weeks straight, sleeping in the dirt or if I'm lucky a tent, this environment is difficult for electronic equipment and I'd like to give a LifeProof case a try.

In my line of work I have to deal with a constant amount of abuse, long hours, a frequent level of physical demand, an occasional exposure to the elements, little sleep and at times lots and lots of water. As such, I am not always the most careful with what I should be gentle with (namely delicate electronic gadgets).
My profession? I am a firefighter. I have found that sometimes, in the middle of the day (or the night), I have inadvertently left crucial items like wallets or phones in my bunker pockets while being in extreme heat or cold. Sometimes I've lucked out with little damage. Other times......I haven't been so fortunate.
I've recently switched to an iPhone (it's the best thing since a PBJ sandwich), and ever since I have felt like I was cradling a newborn baby. I have a fitted shell for it, but I'm still wary of bringing it or using it anywhere where there isn't soft, comfortable padding immediately below or around me. The Lifeproof case is the best thing that I've seen that meets all the rigorous demands of my life, with the only exception: the cost.
Again, I'm a firefighter......not a millionaire.

Mikenopolis says:

I don't know how much I trust the drops because the case is to thin, is it really that shock resistant compare to case that have bulky silicon or rubber on the outside? No that I have ever dropped a phone, but the chance can happen and I would like to be 100% it would be safe. waterproof-ness is also questionable, what if you drop it and a crack is formed, then it would no longer be waterproof. I do like the slim profile though Otterbox is a bit too thick as it doubles the thickness of an iPhone

Mikenopolis says:

I ALWAYS fear I would drop my phone into the washing machine while I'm fumbling with clothes, you may say I should put it down, I have actually nudged it (I think I should consider this a drop) with my clothes and had it falling to the floor (with an otterbox) WHEW! but if I had nudged it the OTHER way, it would've landed in the soapy water! Otterbox needs to make their waterproof too!

Being a roofing appraiser, I am constantly on the go in treacherous conditions. Everything from climbing on top of church steeples to 10 story commercial buildings. The elements aren't always the best as well having to endure through rain, snow and heights, YIKES! On top of that with an infant and a two year old at home, let's just say my phones get plenty of abuse! I went through 2 iPhone 4's being on the job from falling off of roofs, and lost 1 iPhone 4 for being "dropped" in the toilet from my little one. Now I am on my first iPhone 4S and I think Siri is fearing for her life every time i climb a ladder now! This case seems like the perfect solution to the drops, spills, rain, & snow that I deal with on a day to day basis, not to mention my kids!

Wgdz says:

The water/and proof portion of this case and being slim is the attracting factor. I just recently ordered a sprint iphone 4s and I would definitely love to carry a slim cased iphone vs a bulky one, my current phone (Touch Pro 2) is HUGE and bulky and I hate it when I wear it in my slim fit jeans. What I do like about the Touch Pro 2 was I can treat it like a brick and it still works. I drop while talking on the phone, sometimes I abuse it by tossing it on the floor when I get back home, and if this case does that, sweet, though I probably not gonna toss it around as much as the TP2. I also play sand volleyball and don't carry my phone with me, having this will definitely allow me to do so with no worry of sand in the phone! in addition not to worry about if it rains while I have it lying out in the sand while I concentrate on the game!

I have two kids one is 8 and loves the games on my phone and she is also not as responsible as I would like her to be with my phone. I also have a 2 year old that just loves the touch screen and sometime I can hear him "touching" the screen all the way in the kitchen. Also my husband and I are the outdoorsy type. In the summer we ride 4wheelers rain or shine so Iam also packing my phone in a bag and then hiding under cover when I need to use it. We ride through some rough terraine and often time get stuck in mudd whole and I have droped my phone in them a time or two. In the winter time we ride snowmobile far into the next state so sometimes is snowing somtimes its freezing rain or even a little bit of both and when you are riding for hours at a time everything tents to get cold and WET. So I need somthing to but my phone in that can hold up to all the element that I and my phone are exposed to.

I work as a field technician in the environmental industry as a profession and am constantly digging in the dirt, contaminated soils, and contaminated groundwater (oil spills, PCBs, PHCs, heavy metals etc), exposing my phone to the worst possible situations. Plus the fact that I dont have a choice to stop working if it snows, rains, hails, is windy etc. I work mostly in the Canadian arctic and would love to bring my iphone 4s with me on my trips, but usually dont for fear of destroying it. I currently have an old beat up sanyo 700 military grade phone I use in the field and constantly feel disconnected from the world.
Personally, I spend my free time rock climbing, hiking, biking, camping, kayaking etc. and really put my devices to the test and cant live without my tunes! I also spend allot of time working on my properties and plan to build a house in the spring, which will again, put my device to the tests.
This case would give me a piece of mind.
Thanks,
Ryan Fletcher

My I Phone bit the dust on a medical mission trip to Guatenala. It was in an Otter Box. It was rainy the whole trip and my phone only lasted 1 day. I do not know if it was rain or humidity, or simply sealing it in my poncho pocket. Hopefully Lifeproof will fair better.

As a firefighter my iphone takes abuse as I take it along with me on calls. Just a few days ago I was getting out of our Engine to help push a stranded motorist car out of traffic when my iphone dropped 6 feet onto the street and luckily my apple bumper protected it! I like to take my iphone with me on calls to look brush up on info on the way to a call if needed or take pictures or videos of our rescues for training purposes. My iphone needs protection from falls, water, shock and even pit bulls lol. Ive been attacked more than once while on duty by pits....

Nancykhenry says:

DO NOT, whatever you do, order a case from Lifeproof!!!!! I ordered 4 cases from different companies for my 4s with the intention of deciding which one that I liked the best and returning the remainders. (I know I was out the shipping but it was a necessary expense in my mind to find the right case for me.) I have successfully returned all of the cases but the life proof case for minimal charges. I have tried to reach them via their website (the url at the bottom of their own packing slip is bad), Via their contact email on their website (I recvd a form return email stating that they were very busy and would get back with me in a few days (WTF, this is 2011 right?) that was 10 days ago. Via their 1-800 number (left on hold for 10 minutes then got a recording stating that no one could answer my phone call and to lease a msg). I just cannot believe this company. The absolute WORST customer service I have ever encountered. Every time that you try to contact them, it is like running in a circle. And of course this was the most expensive case that I purchased to try out! I was going to send it back because it feels like very cheap plastic. BUYER BE WARNED.

Mhill says:

So did you find a case that you were satisfied with? And if so, why? Is it protective? waterproof?

Nancykhenry says:

I choose one of the two otter boxes that I bought. I had an otter box for my 3GS and it saved my phone from numerous falls (one from over a story high to a gym floor). I like the sturdy feel of the otter box (the life proof case does not have that feel to it). I am a nurse and carry my phone in my scrubs with me at work and am very rough with it-when I sold my 3GS a couple of weeks ago it still looked new even after having it for 2 years. BTW the second otter box that I was trying out has already been returned ($4),and credited back to me!

I have dropped my phone in the snow and then driven over it with my truck. I have slipped into a stream up to my chest with my phone on my belt. I have dropped my phone while answering it and scaled it across concrete and pavement. I've rolled on my phone while working in tight spaces and cracked the screen. I can't have a phone without this kind of protection.

This device does not work. My name is Kourosh Mohammadi (ostadkourosh@yahoo.com) I just bought one of these for almost 80 dollars from best buy. Put it in my pocket to go to the beach for a few days. I am a bartender at the hard rock Casino in Biloxi Mississippi. Everyday my phone gets wet, thrown around and highly abused. I even had my last phone go down the drain, it stayed there for two years until it finally backed the entire restaurant up. It cost the bar $800, which thankfully was covered under maintenance. When they pulled it out, the phone still worked because it was in a case. I ultimately decided that lifeproof like the best case and decided to get one. Maybe y'all could save me some money and give me the demo, I promise it will be tested daily!!

You would think i could afford a phone case but my wife is out of work and Firefighters dont make much. This case would assure me my phone will not get wet on a fire scene, the running in th E.R. an the phone hitting the ground will save my phone, and the water and dirt from hunting and fishing wont ruin it either. Rnwintemute says:

Well, I use it every where I go. I am in the military and were I am my phone is with me. I recently destroyed a blackberry on the rifle range and the phone was in my cammie pocket the whole time. Mean while I had a gortex jacket on because it was rain like b-jesus. Whenever I go to arizona for desert training I take my phone to stay in contact with my husband and my 2 year old son who loves talking to his momma, but I have to use ziplock bags just to keep the dirt out of the phone. Like I said I have a 2 year old son and there are way to many times I have had to put a game (educational of course) on my phone so when we are at a Dr appt or a restaurant so he does not cause a scene in public. How about when we go out on the boat there has been to many close calls for my phone to get shoved in the sand or dropped into the water getting off the boat. All I am saying is I would really love to have this case. My best friend is a bartender and she bought one of these and show me how she can put it in a pitcher of water and it will still work. I could not believe it. My husband just bought me the iphone 4 yesterday for an early Christmas present and I CAN NOT afford to brake this phone.

It really gets abused. My last bump was torn down within a couple of months after owning it. I currently own a camera I can take underwater, but thought how cool would it be to take the iphone underwater instead! The salsa pool parties are amazing enough, also snowboarding near my house... I really want this. Give it to me. I'm buying one too =)

Happy New Year!
I'm sure ALOT, of us could use the Lifeproof case, on New Year's Eve, drinking, & all! As well as my mishaps, of my own! Protection from the dogs, as well as in a purse, & keys scratching the screen. Been thru a Hurricane, & dropped it in the rush, after winds, rains blowing sideways, & trees being up-rooted over the whole neighborhood! You'd drop your phone too, if you lived thru that mess. Lol With gardening, & the great outdoors, dropping it in dirt, & dust, all exposed to my I-Phone. It would be a great honor to be considered as the person you'd choose, to use your super invention, & put it to the test, as proof, just how well it works! I'd be pleased & honored , to try it out, & recommend others, it's a great investment, for a a great phone, the I-Phone 4, or 4S, LIFEPROOF CASE, just what it means, for LIFE!

I'm a self employed joiner/cabinet maker so I need to make sure that when I'm in the workshop the fine dust that got in to all my previous mobiles doesn't get in to my new I phone 4s. Also, on site I have exposed (by accident) my old phones to all types of things like wet plaster, cement and brick dust to name a few. I bought an ultimate addons "waterproof" case off the net because although it is bulky it can be removed in seconds and put in a silicon bumper style case for when I finish work. But when I tested the case without the phone in it under the tap for literally 3 seconds it let water in and so therefore will let the ultra fine dust that gets in everything at work. I looked at all the waterproof cases available on the net and although you can't remove the Lifeproof case too many times without compromising the seal its exactly what i'm looking for! I'd like to see if this case can do what it says it can do!?

Vidal Iseghohimen says:

I don't need this case. My girlfriend NEEDS this case. She literally as clumsy as they come. She has an iPhone 4S and I originally got her a Mophie Juice Pack Air to offer protection and extra battery life. She thinks the case is too bulky so I decided I would let her take it off and while we find something else. It took her less than one day to drop the phone and put 3 chips in the space between the aluminum frame and the screen. As I read this review, she gets up and goes into the bathroom. She comes back out and informs me she just dropped her phone in the toilet and has no idea how it happened. SHE NEEEDS THIS CASE other wise I'm doomed...

In need of one of these, soo bad! My case for the I-Phone now is not shatter proof, dust or dirt proof, or safe, from water! I've dropped previous phones, in the past, loading, & un-loading boxes, sliding across the ice, in the parking lot, after a snow storm! Exposed to rain while running to get under cover! For emergencies, to be carrying a phone, at all times, you can count on. To use in case a situation arises. working in delv. & pick-up, was a necessity. Especially while entering a bank, for proof work, while holding the keys, & opening doors, when no one's around, but YOU! That's when a case like one of these, would keep you safe, from all of the above! Hope I get the chance to use one of these, but with all the competition, would be a great thing to offer all the less unfortunate, a coupon, for a discount on one, should we have to purchase one! You'd probably have a lot of interested customers, with the recession, we're in! THANKYOU for letting us all tell our stories, here's to the best one!

I can monitor calls while in the shower or poolside having fun! What a great product!!!!!

Brandon says:

I am currently enrolled in a University on the coast. I participate in numerous activities that have the ability to destroy my phone on a daily basis. Rugby practice two to three times a week means worrying about protecting my phone from sand, dirt, mud, and water instead of focusing on practice. Weightlifting and running with my iphone proves a challenge because I have to worry about my case getting sweaty and dropping it on a trail, but also trying to make sure my phone doesn't get smashed by a dumbbell or weight plate. Also, the sand and water associated with beach activities and sailing means I can't bring my iphone with me for videos, or safety purposes while sailing. These are activities that I go through on a weekly basis, not to mention the occasional mountain hike, lake fishing trip, or backpacking excursion. I broke my new commuter case today just by trying to take it off to wipe off my phone from the dust and other particles the case attracts. This case would benefit me greatly and suits my lifestyle.

While I don't get to travel often, I am the busy working mother of two children, sole support of my family, and am frequently 'schlepping' things in and out of the car, around airports and grocery stores. It seems my hands are always full of packages and bags and peoples' things. I have dropped my phone in some ridiculous places, including mud puddles, piles of snow (where I retrieved it several hours later face down), under my neighbor's front tire (cannot explain how that happened but I had to get her to move her car for me to safely remove the phone). For some reason my current phone has an affinity for the garage floor, which is (thankfully) dry. We had a lovely canoe trip in the summer this year with friends and, well, they would not permit me to bring my phone for obvious reasons. I had to dry out my previous phone (a Blackberry, which I detested) and was without a phone on a business trip because I had had one such phone mishap prior to departing. The phone eventually partially recovered enough to get me to my next phone contract, at which point I purchased an iphone, which has barely lived through its current cover.
My new iphone 4 is on its way. I can't really afford this Life Proof cover, but I know I need it.

A young boy and his father went out fishing one fine morning. After a few quiet hours out in the boat, the boy became curious about the world around him. He looked up at his dad and asked "How do fish breath under water?" His dad thought about it for a moment, then replied "I really don't know, son." The boy sat quietly from another moment, then asked his father again, "How does our boat float on the water?" Once again his dad replied, "Don’t know, son." Pondering his thoughts again, a little while later, the boy asks "Why is the sky blue?" Again, his dad replied, "Don’t know, son." The inquisitive boy, worried he was disturbing his father, asks this time "Dad, do you mind that I'm asking you all of these questions?" "Of course not son", replied his dad, "How else are you ever going to learn anything?"
I sometimes think that many posts and whole sites are much alike this story...

I've had an otterbox for 2 years with no complaints except it's hard to put in my pocket. Lifeproof for 4 days: completely shattered screen. Selling this case, replacing my screen, getting new otter box. Lifeproof=fail.

I work for FedEx and have to leave my phone in my truck when it rain. Plus I deliver in some very dusty areas and the case I have doesn't protect it.

It sounds like the ultimate case for me. I'm constantly dropping my phone in mud and water. I'm a plumbing contractor and a swimming pool cleaning professional but I can't tell you how many phones I have lost by dropping it into unsanitary water/sewage and swimming pools. Please reward me for my carelessness. Thanks Larry
