How SXSW plans to use iBeacons to improve the attendee experience

The South By Southwest (SXSW) festival will be employing iBeacons during the festival this year for an improved experience. Attendees will be able to interact with the iBeacons through the official SXSW Go app. iBeacon technology is becoming increasingly popular for large events, with CES hosting an iBeacon-powered scavenger hunt at this year's show, and Major League Baseball is installing them at many of their parks. As SXSW, iBeacons will be used to help facilitate things like badge pickup and attendee engagement, according to 9to5Mac:

Specifically, it will be using the technology to “help attendees in Austin pick up their badge faster and get more involved in the sessions they attend.” A ‘Session Live’ feature in the app will allow for real-time audience interaction during sessions.
