Pioneer exploring aftermarket CarPlay systems, new Mercedes not required

Pioneer Electronics is looking into bringing Apple's CarPlay to its line of aftermarket car infotainment and navigation systems. While CarPlay has currently only been announced to work as a built-in system from manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, and Volvo, the emergence aftermarket units would not be surprising. In fact, Mercedes is exploring the possibility of adding CarPlay to their older vehicles. Pioneer is investigating adding CarPlay not only to upcoming products, but existing ones as well, according to MacRumors:
Pioneer Electronics, a company that manufacturers many in-car electronic systems, is looking into the possibility of implementing CarPlay compatibility with both its existing and future products. The news comes courtesy of a Pioneer customer service representative and was relayed to MacRumors via a reader.
