Tim Cook on privacy: 'We will not shrink from this responsibility'

During Apple's March 2016 event, CEO Tim Cook took some time to talk about the importance of privacy, and the company's current spat with the government over encryption. Cook said that the U.S. needs to, as a country, have a major conversation about how much control the government should have over our privacy and data.
Cook offered the following comments on the matter:
We need to decide as a nation how much power the government should have over our data and our privacy…We did not expect to be in this position, at odds with our own government. We believe strongly that we have a responsibility to help protect your data and your privacy…This is an issue that impacts all of us, and we will not shrink from this responsibility.
