Volkswagen has announced that the first car sporting CarPlay has started landing in showrooms. The Golf R is the first model to pick up Volkswagen's latest infotainment system — which includes CarPlay on board — but the company says the rest of its 2016 lineup will carry support for Apple's connected car system as well. From Volkswagen:
CarPlay support comes as part of a larger push from Volkswagen with its Car-Net platform, which also includes support for new connected security features, MirrorLink, and Google's Android Auto. Following its appearance on the Golf R, we should see CarPlay roll out with the rest of Volkswagen's 2016 lineup as well. The only two models that Volkswagen says will not pick up support for its Car-Net platform are the Eos and Touareg.
