Maybe some kind of pet sim similar to nintendogs. Or a fish.. or aquarium! I don't see myself playing a lot of games on the iphone but I'd like to look at something like that every once in a while.

personally i'd like to see the car game extended so as i turn the iphone on its axis (as a steering wheel) the main screen stays static in space... and maybe an extension of that treo game where you can shoot aliens seen overlayed on reallife scenes grabbed from a live camera feed...

I wonder if online iPhone gaming would be plausible, perhaps with something similar to the multiplayer capabilities of the DS? That would definitely be enticing.

Don’t see why not. The wifi radio certainly seems to be available to 3rd part apps. Also local wifi connection to local devices for multiplay (again à la DS) would be good.

I doubt that the gaming experience would be rich on an iphone. Does it have the muscle power for gaming?

Apple says it does of course - the embedded OpenGL is a 'screamer on iPhone', it's all hardware accelerated etc, etc - and while the Mandy Rice-Davies criticism might apply to those claims ('they would, wouldn't they') the games demoed at the roadmap event were extremely impressive IMO. Take a look and see what you think:

Imagine holding your iPhone like a steering while and using the accelerometer as you rotate the phone left and right to steer, then lean the iPhone forward to accelerate and tilt it back to brake and change your views by touching the screen...

Absolutely! Not exactly my area of expertise, but it's my firm belief that the best two games ever made are both Diddy Kong Racing. DKR would be totally sweet on an iPhone - with those stupendous graphics and accelerometer control like you suggest. I do vaguely recall though that Rare is now in the Microsoft fold, which might reduce the chances of a port a little :(

I haven't owned a portable gaming device since the original game boy but I sure am looking forward to playing me some galaga and hopefully some one will make donkey kong! But really I'm excited about all the cool games that will make full use of the iPhones graphics to really blow me away.

I think the iPhone will probably always lack when compared to devices like th Nintendo DS, and perhaps the PSP, as far as being a portable gaming platform. Reason being physical buttons and the fact that most players I see with portable games are children, and a $400 - $500 hand-held game is a bit much.

Where it could excel is if developers realize the first REAL potential for mobile multiplayer games. Not games where you are locked into a local Wifi area, but with a 3G phone, the possibility of greatly expanded coverage area.

As a slightly-more-than-casual console gamer with both a 360 and a Wii, I haven't been interested in handheld gaming in years. I had bejewled and a couple other games on my Treo 650, but I haven't missed them since switching to the iPhone. That said, I'm really excited about this development. Having games that can compete, graphically, with games on the PSP and DS is a really intriguing option. One of the biggest reasons I avoided trying any of the newer handheld systems is that I didn't want to carry around another device, but with that issue solved I could see myself really getting into handheld gaming in the iPhone. Not that I need another way to pass my metro time what with podcasts, audiobooks, web browsing, TV / Movie watching and music listening all in the same device...

Now bring on the iPhone version of Load Runner!!!

How long will it take before one of us chucks our iPhones into the street or off the train platform because we loose our grip as we try and steer our Monkey Ball around. I suggest somebody come up with a dock adapter that provides a wrist strap for all of us that get just a little too into our game play.

If anything at all could hurt the iPhone as a portable gaming device it would be the lack of physical buttons. At least for me. Sure it may be cool at first with no buttons but I feel that will limit what you can actually do. This is a wait-a-thon post right.... just checking...

My wish-list:

Star Wars Battlefront 3 - the space stuff would rock!

Some kind of big brain academy thingy

Burnout paradise

Heavenly Sword/God of War type game where you jab accelerometer to attack

Sonic-type hight speed 6-axis platformer (could we shake to jump?)

Even things like rolling dice, dealing cards, etc. will be fun with touch & accelerometer

Star Wars Battlefront 3 – the space stuff would rock!

Some kind of big brain academy thingy

Burnout paradise

Heavenly Sword/God of War type game where you jab accelerometer to attack

Sonic-type hight speed 6-axis platformer (could we shake to jump?)

Even things like rolling dice, dealing cards, etc. will be fun with touch & accelerometer

I like Lawn Darts on Windows Mobile...

I agree, a car racing game is an absolute MUST.

and yes - some way to get on my WoW Auction House would be nice -- if dangerous. ;)
