iPhone App Store Gets Ready to Celebrate 1st Birthday
Apple's iTunes App Store launched on July 11, 2008 alongside the iPhone 3G and iPhone 2.0. Now, just a few days shy of its first birthday, iTunes is getting ready to celebrate by showcasing some of Apple's favorite iPhone (and iPod touch) apps [iTunes link].
Split into two categories of 30, apps [iTunes link] and games [iTunes link], Apple's picks are as diverse as they are interesting and seem to cover the gamut from major development studios to indies, premium priced to free, and as they put it are:
Part fun. Part function. Entirely amazing.

I don't know if they're too new or what, but Star Defense and Rolando 2 are great games. The game I've spent the most time playing however, is Besiegement. It doesn't get a lot of press, but it's great.
The two apps I use most that didn't make the list are Gas Cubby and Geocaching.
For some reason I read the "premium priced for free" as thought some of the apps where now free.. but they are all priced the same, to my knowledge.. I do like a couple they put on there though.. and I may try out one or two others.
I can't believe it's been a year - but on the other hand, I want to start developing iPhone applications and thought I might have missed the boat. Only being a year down the line means the market isn't that crowded yet - giving me some hope.
I have spent a ridiculous amount of time on the papertoss app. Man it's infuriating.
