Apple's Podcasts app isn't built into the iPhone or iPad but is available from the iOS App Store. Originally part of the Music app, Apple tore podcasts out in 2012 and released Podcasts as a separate app shortly after iOS 6. The original version boasted skeuomorphic reel-to-real tape decks but was glitchy enough that most people avoided it. Apple has updated it several times since, most recently to redesign it for iOS 7 and add the new background update features.
