Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel launched today, both for OS X, Windows and Linux. It's the latest installment of the action game that blends together shooter and RPG elements. The Mac version, developed by Aspyr, is now available for download from Steam.
Neither is exactly the latest and greatest, but classic first-person shooters Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 3 are now finally available for Mac. Both titles have been available on consoles and Windows for some years now, so it's definitely a case of better late than never. But both titles plus all downloadable content are available via Steam and other online game stores. No Mac App Store this time out.
When Steve Jobs introduced the Mac App Store in 2011, he said that Apple wasn't trying to compete with other app download services. While that may be true — Apple doesn't enforce any sort of exclusivity requirement — the Mac App Store has evolved to present some unique challenges to app publishers. Case in point: Long time Mac publisher Aspyr, which plans to mix things up a bit in 2014.
Bioshock Infinite - the fantastic first-person shooter swansong from Irrational Games - has been a huge hit, and Mac users have been able to join in the fun thanks to the efforts of Aspyr. Now the company has released the second part of downloadable content (DLC) for the game - Burial at Sea - Episode 2.
Aspyr Media has announced the release of new downloadable content for their Mac conversion of BioShock Infinite. Burial at Sea Episode 1 is now available from Steam, the Mac App Store and GameAgent.com. (The Mac App Store version is available as downloadable content available through the app itself).
Aspyr says it will phase out support for Snow Leopard once Mavericks is out in the world. Aspyr is the publisher of Mac versions of AAA game releases like Bioshock Infinite, Civilization V and Borderlands 2. The news comes from Aspyr's GameAgent blog.
True to their word, Aspyr has made the epic first-person shooter, Bioshock Infinite, available to buy today for the Mac. Available in the Mac App Store, through Steam or directly from Aspyr's website, Bioshock Infinite is the third in the incredibly popular series to hit the Mac.
