Secret iPhone 2.1 Features to be Revealed Sept. 9?

Could we not only be seeing iPhone 2.1 this Tuesday, but a 2.1 with secret features deliberately kept from the 4 developer beta's just so Steve Jobs can see our stunned rapture when he pronounces BOOM!

Ars Technica thinks so:

We were told that, aside from what we already know about iPhone 2.1 from leaked info on the web, there are other parts to 2.1 that were specifically removed from developer seeds in order to keep them secret from the world.

Ars is both excited at the idea of new features, and scared of what feature untested outside Apple may do to an already buggy 2.x series. Us? We're filled with anticipointment at the very thought.

Apple's "Let's Rock" Event, their traditional pre-holiday season iPod (and more?) refresh kicks off at 10am PDT/1pm EDT, and remember -- TiPd will be rocking out, and live meta-blogging it!

  • Who cares about secret features.
I just want applications to work !
I suspect that many of the 28,000+ viewers of the problem on the Apple Discussions pages agree.

  • My applications work, so I care about the secret features. MMS, Copy & Paste, Turn by turn GPS and iChat please.
  • ALL I care about is copy/paste. If they implement copy paste it will be the perfect phone for me. Until that Ill continue to be disappointed :(
  • Improve reception!!! I don't give a crap about copy and paste, when I have no bars indoors (Downtown Chicago).
  • mms and flash?
  • they are going to have apps running in bg process now.
  • I would love a feature like intelliscreen. It's the main reason jailbrike my phone.
  • I agree. I just want my phone to be bug free. Now.. How about... Video recording? MMS? Copy/paste?
  • I just want the GPS to have the standard features, Apple has announced they were working on a solution in the past.
Also copy n' paste and ability to tether as a modem!!
MMS won't be supported IMO as Apple isn't interested in that feature.
I don't have he problem with bugs only sites that crash in Safari are one that are using Flash for adds and pop ups. I haven't messed with my IPhone (Jailbreak) and won't install crap apps as there are plenty of those on the app store.
  • Yes. I vote for better reception, no app crash, and Intelliscreen as well. Intelliscreen is the only reason I jailbroke my phone. I'd like TomTom as well.
  • Everyone will always want "their" ideas implemented... and have no use for "the other guys" ideas.
    It's human nature.
The things that will be in The Tuesday Announcement,
have already been determined. Nothing you "hope for" here... will change that now.
I'll be happy with ANYTHING new/better.
  • What I want most is something Apple can't give us and that's AT&T to expand it's 3G coverage.
  • @bill- All in good time, all in good time. :)
  • I love my iPhone, i decided to share my iphone wallpapers, download them free at www.iphonerise.com
  • I love this site
  • I'm still pulling for A2DP and turn by turn GPS, oh, and improved reception/throughput would be killer.
  • @ David Soul,
While I loved your work in Starsky & Hutch, my iPhone and everyone I know iPhones all work.
An occasionally bad app? - hmmm, just like real computers!
    Bad code is bad code.
    Be more selective.
  • there are lot of articles about the app fixes and tips.
    just another app crash tiphttp://www.iphonefootprint.com/2008/09/iphone-application-crashes-quick-...
  • Thats why apple always fails more than anything else. They refuse to let anyone see the new products or firmwares until there actually out on the market for sale. Thats just ridicoulous. The apple store employees don't even get there hands on the new products till the day there supposed to be selling them to the consumers. How is anyone supposed to be knowledgable about a product let alone confidently sell it without ever using it.
