iCade iPad arcade cabinet passes through the FCC, coming end of May [video]

The iCade arcade cabinet has just received clearance from the FCC and is now available to pre-order. The iCade is an accessory for your iPad, which turns it into a retro arcade machine and features an old style joystick, six numbered buttons and two enter buttons. The iPad slots inside the casing and connects to the control system via Bluetooth, hence the need for FCC clearance.

Flashback to the glory days of gaming with iCADE! iCADE brings arcade gaming to life by integrating your iPad into an authentic, arcade-style cabinet complete with joystick and buttons! Impress your friends, family and co-workers with iCADE's great-looking retro design, and then challenge them for high-scores on the most entertaining iPad accessory imaginable! iCADE's specially designed cradle ensures safe loading and unloading of your iPad, while also providing a solid, secure fit even during the most intense game-play sessions.

The iCade comes with Atari’s Asteroids and nine other arcade games; more importantly, it works with the recently released Atari Greatest Hits.  Put these two together and you can have an awesome arcade type experience matched with retro styling.

The iCade is available to pre-order from GameStop for $99 and will be released on May 31. There is a video after the break showing the iCade in action.

iCade iPad arcade cabinet passes through the FCC, coming end of May [video]

As long as it would work with many different games, I might be down. Otherwise, I don't want to spend $99 on a limited accessory.

1) Only if they work together - if the MAME games accept that type of input.
2) Also, I can't seem to make the MAME stuff work right, anyway. Very few of the many games I have seem to be compatible.
3) If this did work with MAME, I'd be in geek heaven.

All the MAME games I've played so far have worked flawlessly, and I can't see why the iCade wouldn't work, seeing as you can already play with a Wii controller (which uses bluetooth).

but can it play in landscape mode? if not, that leaves out most of the better Capcom titles, plus just about every worthwhile driving game....portrait mode only could be a deal-breaker.

IF this were to work with other games like Street Fighter it would be awesome. Landscape mode can be put in the orientation lock but I'm imagining this with the HDMI out also. Then the iPad would be like a full gaming system. And since it connects through bluetooth, I imagine that it doesn't have to be inside the little box thing?

It's not just a "controller" clearly. It's a way of life! PS3 and Wii controllers cost as much and more than this. $99 for a case and controller is a perfectly valid price. I'm putting my pre-order in now.

I'm sorry but I will not give ANY money to Gamestop. Such a great product idea but a poor choice to retail through.
And what about ipad2 compatibility?
