Here, Have Some Wallpaper, The First One is Free

The iPhone has turned me into a wallpaper junkie. Apple shipped a decent set of default backgrounds, but most of them are not up to my tastes. So I culled various desktop wallpapers and imagery from my personal collection and downsized them to iPhone's HVGA display resolution.

These are my favorites. Enjoy.

Breaking Up is Hard To Do, Especially for Geeks

Remember that post I wrote last week about my buddy Matt Miller returning his iPhone and going back to a Nokia Smartphone? Well the poor guy just couldn't let it go. He writes on his blog that just two hours ago he went back to AT&T and got another iPhone. This time it appears he plans on keeping the device long term.

Video: HTC Touch vs. iPhone, Smackdown

Dieter Bohn (yeah, his name is so French) of WM Experts does a nice walk through comparison between the HTC Touch and iPhone, stacking up each device's feature set and functionality. I agree with Dieter's overall assessment and conclusions, except for his assertion the Touch's onscreen keyboard comes out ahead of iPhone through third party software. Windows Mobile offers greater flexibility and productivity, but overall it's an inferior platform compared to OSX. That said I still prefer WinMob to Blackberry or Symbian.

Anti-iPhone Parody: The iPhone is a piece of s**t, and So is Your Face!

I don't know who this guy is but his parody is brilliant, if raunchy.

Yahoo Go Coming to iPhone?

Yahoo Go Coming to iPhone?

So yesterday afternoon I was bantering with a friend of mine, who works at Yahoo, about the iPhone and what each of us thinks about the device, etc. As we were dinging its shortcomings the subject of third party software came up and whether Apple will ultimately open the platform up to software developers. He told me something interesting - not only is it possible, but apparently Yahoo is working (with Apple's support) to bring its mobile services application, called Yahoo Go, to iPhone.

My initial reaction was that he was referring to a Safari web based app. Nope! According to him this is a native home screen application, and it's being tested right now by the mobile team at Yahoo. Gah!

Humiliate Yourself, And Others, With Smooshed Photos

Want a great way to create goofy custom photos of friends and family in your address book, trapping their contorted faces inside your iPhone like a prehistoric fly encased in amber every time they call you? Now you can!

Of course the real trick will be convincing your companions to submit their disfigured mugs for your own amusement. Steve Jobs still hasn't returned my request for his photo. Damn him!

Vaja Shows Some Leathery Love for iPhone

Vaja Shows Some Leathery Love for iPhone

When it comes to leather cases, Vaja is the Louis Vuitton among its peers - the Cadillac of cases. I've owned numerous Vaja cases over the years, stylishly protecting my PDAs and Smartphones. Needless to say I highly recommend these cases to anyone.

So I was giddy as a school girl when I learned that Vaja was bringing its award winning line of cases to iPhone. And they didn't disappoint. Starting at $55 and $60 respectively, the i-Volution and Classic series are absolutely beautiful! And you can customize your case in dozens of different styles and colors.

AT&T Sucks, and So Does Your Carrier

AT&T Sucks, and So Does Your Carrier

Among the dull roar of criticisms about iPhone I have to endure, one in particular stands out as the most irritating and unfounded - the attack against AT&T. I hear these slanderous indictments all the time..."Why did Apple choose AT&T?", "AT&T sucks! They should have gone with Verizon or Sprint", "AT&T is evil". Blah blah blah.

Germans Think iPhone is Wunderbar!

Germans Think iPhone is Wunderbar!

Germany's biggest retailer says iPhone mania is sweeping the land of Beer and Wursts. A spokesperson told to German newspaper Tagesspiegel that it receives more than 1,000 inquiries a day about iPhone, asking when it will be available.

As a nice segway to the earlier story posted today revealing that 25% of iPhone users have switchted to AT&T, more than 50% of Germans say they too would switch carriers to get an iPhone.

Sehr gut!

25% of iPhone Users Are Switchers

American Technology Research today reported from sources unknown that more than 25% of iPhone users are "switchers" coming from other wireless carriers. The firm also sees iPhone's potential to lure users to a particular carrier as a stong bargaining chip for Apple as it negotiates exclusive contracts to one lucky European carrier.

You know the execs at Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile have to be drinking lots of pink medicinal liquid right about now.

Hacking and Developer Roundup

Hacking and Developer Roundup

There's been a spate of information for hacking on and development for the iPhone. I've been dutifully collecting it so as to post a roundup, and so here it is: the best developer links of the past week, with a bit of a hacking update at the end.

UPDATED: messed up Matthew Privanek's name. Sorry Matthew!
