Multitask while on a phone call with Thrutu for iPhone

Thrutu, by MetaSwitch, is a new app that lets you share location, photos, contacts and more while you're talking on the phone.

Thrutu brings new fun and function to the phone call. It's so simple that you'll wonder why phone calls couldn't always work this way.

Thrutu comes with five buttons:

  • Location: see each other’s position on a map, updating live as you move.
  • Camera: snap and share a photo during a call
  • Gallery: share a photo that's already stored on the phone.
  • Contacts: instantly send contact details
  • Prod: convey touch in a phone call by making the other phone vibrate!

Thrutu needs simultaneous voice and data to meet operate at its full potential, so if you're a Verizon customer, you'll need to be connected to Wifi. However, Thrutu does make it possible to share via SMS for Verizon customers or when the person you're talking to doesn't have Thrutu installed.

I haven't had the chance to play with this, yet, but it looks rather promising. Having quick and easy access to location, camera, photos, and contacts while on a phone call will be very convenient. Sure, I can switch apps to accomplish any of these tasks (except the vibrating), but this is a much better implementation. I hope Apple is taking notes, as I think this a feature that is lacking in iOS.

Thrutu is available for free. Screenshots and video after the break.

iPad 2 or... MacBook Air 2?

iPad 2 or... MacBook Air 2?

(Never mind a possible Retina Display iPad 2 Pro/iPad 3 on the horizon!)

Apple introduces new MacBook Airs, other stuff

To coincide with the release of Mac OS X Lion, Apple has also released a new generation of MacBook Airs, Mac Minis, and LED displays (now dubbed Thunderbolt displays). The most interesting to us, of course, is the MacBook Air, particularly the 11-inch version which is a real -- if more expensive -- rival to the iPad.

Chinese counterfeit phones are nothing new, counterfeit Apple Stores, now that’s something new!

Chinese counterfeit phones are nothing new, counterfeit Apple Stores, now that’s something new!

We have all seen pictures of fake iPhones coming out of China but blogger BirdAbroad discovered something far more impressive on her travels. She walked into a fake Apple Store in the Chinese town of Kunming.

The products appear to be real Apple products so at least that is one bit of good news. Unfortunately though, Apple does not have stores in this part of China. The store could be an approved re-seller, if that is the case it has really over stepped the mark with its blatant Apple branding and attempt to copy a real Apple Store model.

Daily Tip: How to shorten links on the fly with Droplr

Daily Tip: How to shorten links on the fly with Droplr

Trying to figure out how to shorten URLs quickly and easily? Doplr is Out of all the apps on my iPhone, I find Droplr to be one of my favorites. Not only do they have an iOS version, they have a Mac version as well. It's one of my favorite task management apps since it helps me share and organize files.

I find it incredibly useful for uploading images, long URLS, and videos. It also allows you to create shortened links quickly and easily. Long links are annoying and look bad in statuses and posts. If you find yourself needing shortened links quite often, Droplr will help you do just that.
