Documents to Go for iPad- app review

Documents to Go for iPad- app review

As a user of Dataviz's Documents to Go product for years, I was ecstatic for the iPhone release and now even more so for the universal binary for iPad. Documents to Go is a mobile office productivity suite that allows you to create and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint formatted documents and file types on your iPad.

Let's first look at how we can access our documents, there are a few different ways. First, you can create documents on the iPad. Next, you can sync with your desktop (PC or Mac). You can install a free desktop sync tool. This allows you to pick a folder on your computer and sync those documents to the iPad, or use the built-in iTunes sync if that is your preference. Last but not least you can connect to a few different web services in the "cloud" and edit your documents and save it right back to the cloud. Documents to Go supports these services:

  • Google Docs
  • Box.net
  • Dropbox
  • iDisk
  • Public Disk (iDisk)
  • Sugar Sync

Syncing your documents to the cloud is truly fantastic and is something Apple's own iPad iWork suite does not offer beyond iWork.com.

AT&T Eligiblity Dates Indicating Early June iPhone G4 Release?

If you haven't checked your AT&T eligibility date, you may want to. We noticed a couple weeks ago that AT&T was starting to roll back eligibility dates for some users, so here's another reminder.

What will the new iPhone be called and when will it be available?

While we wait, I figured it would be fun to crowd-source the awesome mind-power of the TiPb Nation to see if we could predict what the 4th generation iPhone would be called and when exactly it would be available for purchase. So check out the polls after the break and let's see just how close we can get.

Apple to debut Safari 5, Xcode 4, Apple TV on iPad, and more pre-WWDC crazy

Apple to debut Safari 5, Xcode 4, Apple TV on iPad, and more pre-WWDC crazy

I'm sitting here at the airport waiting for my flight (or the first leg of my flight rather, grrrr!) to San Francisco for WWDC 2010 and catching up on the latest, greatest, coolest, and craziest rumors to hit the web -- namely Safari 5, a new version of Xcode, and more.

Safari on the iPhone and iPad is typically ahead of the curve when it comes to supporting Apple's version of (still emerging) HTML5 and CSS3 standards, and their Nitro Javascript engine, but desktop Safari typically leads the way in terms of cool features like local RSS, Top Sites, etc. According to Macgenerations Safari 5 looks to increase that lead:

iPhone OS 4: iTunes streaming music in widget UI, is this how Pandora and Slacker will work?

We've already seen how iPhone OS 4 now includes double-tap to launch the fast-app switcher for multitasking, and how you can now swipe left to get audio control widgets for the iPhone, but it seems those audio controls are working for iTunes streaming now as well - and maybe more?

No iPad live! this week, will do special post-WWDC podcast on Monday!

Attention TiPb Nation -- due to travel and assorted craziness surrounding the Sunday night before the Monday morning WWDC 2010 (expected) iPhone HD/iPhone 4G introduction, we won't be able to do our usual iPad live! tomorrow night.

However, to make it up to you -- and to make sure we get to talk to you about whatever Apple reveals just as soon as inhumanly possible -- we're going to do a special edition podcast on Monday after the big reveal. We're not sure on timing yet, but it will be as early as possible.

Apologies for letting anyone down on Sunday night, but we'll make it up to you on Monday.

It's go time!

SquareTrade announces new iPhone 3GS Warranty

SquareTrade has sent us a little tip announcing its new coverage rates for the iPhone 3GS. As any iPhone owner knows, when you drop your phone, your heart may momentarily stop. We all know most warranties also don't cover drops and spills. This is where SquareTrade steps in. For only $99 you'll receive 2 full years of coverage. Compare that to AT&T's rumored new iPhone protection plan, and you've got yourself a deal with SquareTrade.

SquareTrade had this to say about their warranty pricing compared to AT&T's:
