Rumor: 4th Generation iPhone to Pack 5 Megapixel Camera?

Digitimes is reporting that OmniVision has received an order from Apple for 40-45 million CMOS sensors packing 5 megapixels, bound for next year's 4th generation iPhone. That's nearly double the unites -- and a huge increase in pixel count -- from the iPhone 3GS cameras OmniVision currently supplies.

As with all next-gen iPhone rumors, take this one with an iTablet-sized grain of salt, but it does make competitive sense for Apple to bump the camera next year, among other things (cough iPhone HD cough).

Apple Being Sued for iPhone Infringing Four Digital Camera Patents

Apple is no stranger to lawsuits, and today is no exception as St. Clair Intellectual Property Consultants have slapped them with a lawsuit that claims the iPhone infringes upon four of their digital camera patents that St. Clair currently holds. The four include the ‘459, ‘219, ‘010 and ‘899 patents.

iPod touch Camera Rumors Return

Like horrible holiday movie sequels, iPod touch camera rumors just keep getting spat out the mill with the same tired old plots and ever weaker impact. This time, the Examiner claims an "inside source" who claims that the iPod touch with camera was delayed last year from quality assurance reasons, but will return this spring with an iPod nano-like video recording capability.

Our take? Yeah, the camera was bumped from last year's iPod touch G3, but Apple likes its product cycles so we probably won't see a camera again until the iPod touch G4 is introduced in September 2010 (and we surely hope it's not the low-res, video-only nano camera by then either -- not on the flagship device, no sir!)

Verizon Droid vs. iPhone 3GS Side-by-Side Camera Showdown

The 5 megapixel, dual LED flash Verizon/Motorola Droid camera beats the iPhone 3GS 3 megapixels on specs alone, right? Not according to the Chicago Sun/Times' technology columnist, Andy Ihnatko, who put some side-by-side comparison shots up on Flickr.

Why the iPod touch G3 Camera was Yanked, and Rightly So

Everyone, including Steve Jobs, has very reasonable sounding theories as to why the third gen iPod touch camera was removed. Rather than rehash it again, however, we thought we'd let our minds wonder into parody, and consider what might have happened in a world only slightly more cartoonish than ours...

Steve Jobs, fresh from his recent leave of absence, comes crashing back into Apple's Cupertino campus, and after fixing the typography on the iPhone 3G S 3GS, tweaking some pixels on the Snow Leopard icons, and spending time meditating deep in the iTablet vault, he heads over to the scorched closet that used to be reserved for iPhone A2DP testing...

Rumor Expounded: More on Potential iPod touch Camera Delay

Yesterday we heard a rumor that Apple may be experiencing problems with the iPod's new camera feature, and those problems could cause a delay.

Today, Hardmac threw in some rumored details about the rumored problems:

The issue would be linked to the new camera module. We did not get any further details, but the problem has been spotted in the first dozen of thousands units produced. Those units have been put aside.

3.2 Megapixel Cameras Bound for iPod touch, iPod nano, and... iPod classic?

The iPod touch, iPod nano, and now it sounds like the hard-drive based iPod classic are all set to receive cameras, presumably at Apple's September 9 music event. We've heard rumors of the iPod touch before, of course, and even the iPod nano, but the iPod classic as well?

iPhone Now Owns the Title of "Most Popular Camera on Flickr"

It was just over a year ago that the iPhone became the undisputed champion of cell phone cameras on Flickr. Without a doubt, the modern day cell phone camera has become a serious photographic tool and thanks to the release of iPhone 3GS, the iPhone has stepped into 1st place in upload popularity of all cameras just ahead of Cannon's Digital Rebel XTi.
