As iPhone Live! regulars know, I use a Blue Microphone Snowball for our podcast, so when they announced their 2nd generation, iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS compatible Mikey, I was gravitationally pulled towards their booth for a quick look.
It's small, it plugs into the iPhone dock, and they also offer a free Blue Fire field-recorder app in the iTunes App Store [Free - iTunes link (opens in new tab)]
The 2nd gen Mikey should ship this spring. Check out the video after the break, and note: this was recorded using a pre-production unit of that very mic!

Odd, won't play on my 3GS despite it being a YT clip?
It can take some time for YouTube to process and push out the iPhone (H.264) version. Sorry about that, but it will hopefully work soon!
Ok, see the video, and I now understand why Rene was "gravitationally pulled towards their booth".
Oh, and the mic was sorta cute too.
The Mikey desperately needed a revision to accomodate higher sound pressure levels. The current version is advertised as being useful for live music, but in reality anything louder than soft music will distort the Mikey. My band practices at low volumes in a living room and the Mikey is clipping all over the place. It's a great concept if they can get it to work.
Is it just me, or does the audio go out of sync with the video about 20 seconds into this clip? Funny for a video demonstration about an audio device. (Again, maybe it's just happening on my iPhone.)
Its not just you. It also drops to just the left channel.
I think Rene was concentrating on those big eyes and wasn't paying attention to where he held the mic.
I just purchased the 2 gen Mikey, and it won't work with my iPhone. It says this accessory is not compatible with the iPhone
This product does not work in latest versions of iOS4 ..... that means unless your 3g or 3gs is jailbroken it wont work anymore....
Great mic to use with iPod touch for those who wants quality podcasting.. Nice rebiew.. i liked it http://goo.gl/oDPKr
