This update sucked. Apple cares about its customers until they actually buy a product. Then, it’s, like, how can we get more money out of them.

Microsofts. Keynote was better this year..& I’m a mac guy.. Another thing the joke of steve & his ( hi I’m a mac & I’m a pc ) shit has gotten old & childish!!

I am sure the day will come — in the not too distant future — when iPhone apps will be available for purchase from the iTunes store. I am looking forward to that day. Until then, the iPhone does everything Apple said it would do when I bought it. Now it does even more. I am a very happy clam.

This isn’t about revenues. I’m not begrudging Apple’s right to milk iPhone for the cash cow that it is, in fact I encourage it. They have as much right as any consumer electronics company to turn their product into a profit engine. But the bottom line here is that Apple needs to service its customer base. We’ve heard nothing about the promised SDK, allegedly coming next month, so that leeds me to wonder if they aren’t dragging their heels in the process. And then it becomes a question of business ethics. By locking down iPhone with each firmware update, they’re stealing the very food off my plate, in a manner of speaking. The community develops applications for iPhone – Apple swoops in and turns off the lights. This causes the hair on my neck to stand up… it’s a matter of priorities. It takes a great deal of effort on Apple’s part to find new ways of making its software closed, thereby locking out developers. So, if and SDK is coming why not concentrate those efforts on opening the platform as promised, with the SDK?

For most of you folks this probably isn’t as big of a deal as it is for me, because I run this site and desperately need certain applications running on my iPhone in order to post content; particularly a screen capture utility. Without it I can’t take screenshots of the iPhone interface for use in my blog entries. It’s crippling. So I have absolutely no way of taking images of 1.1.3 in action other than direct photos of my iPhone sitting its cradle… which is LAME. If I want to use screen capture software at all I have to now downgrade my test unit back to 1.1.1, and then jailbreak the bloody thing.

My only wish is for Apple to announce the SDK and finally enable developers into its tent so we can all live happily ever after.

That being said, if you have read anything about the history of the iPhone release, it becomes clear that they were scrambling at the end to meet their deadline. Obviously, everything was not 100% ready when the deadline approached, so the put out the features that they could. They pulled a “Microsoft”. Even still, Apple’s back-against-the-wall release of the iPhone was still remarkable and continues to improve.

I’m still having a love affair with my handy-dandy piece of tech!

Summerboard’s page scrolling mechanism was an ugly downwards mechanism. When 1.1.1 was jailbroken, Summerboard did not work at first. However, to everyone’s joy, we discovered that 1.1.1 contained a page scrolling mechanism developed by Apple – and far better than anything in Summerboard!

To conveniently forget this and accuse Apple of plagiarism of its own code is utter nonsense. You should be ashamed.
