Ok first up, I do not use mac software, nor am a great fan of apple, but lets get some things straight here, especially about MS. Yes Ms is multi national with a lot of customers, that is why they are BIG. That is why they have (should have) the tools and resources to elimiate software bugs etc.

Windows 2000 WAS NOT a failure. Its NT platform, once ironed out proved to be amongst the most stable and paved the way for windows XP, the most popular OS there is. Winows ME was a failure, but that was a while back. Lets look at Windows Vista. More than ONE YEAR on, there is a still a funadental lack of support for this OS. The TCP/IP stack was improperly built, the driver database sadly lacking, ACPI was so poorly built half the computers crashed when they came out of standby, basic file copy operations etc prove to be slower than XP. Many features that were supposed to be implemented were not, to maintain the release deadline, why they even ship a 'revert' disc with new Pc's so they can go back to XP if they want! Even with the release of the much trumpeted SP1 for Vista, it still did not address many concerns people have. Businesses in droves are choosing to wait it out for Windows 7, hoping that the next release will be better than this woefully inadequate one.

Endrit, I am not disaagreeing about Apple, I choose not to use a Mac either, but MS really dropped the ball with Vista and could have done a lot better. I have used it and come up with so many problems that I have reverted to XP until a properly implemented, stable release comes along (if ever!)Apple also dropped the ball with the new software release, and in my opinion, have worked harder than MS ever did about addressing concerns.

One more thing, the iphone is more like a mini computer and not 'just a cellphone'. With that comes the freight of bugs, patches updates, fixes and mods you would expect from ANY vendor. Whilst Apple need to get this thing sorted, they are not the only ones BY FAR!

I agree with Max. You honestly think MS releases stable software the firt time out!? Windows Me was crap and could never be fixed. Windows 2000 is up to sp4 rollup 1a, and xp is at sp3. Even the flagship Vista was so full of holes that they had to release sp1 as quick as possible. I do not necessarily like Apple to to believe that completely stable software with no bugs in it will be released first time is insane. Endrit, you are a jackoff.

iPod Touch 2G’s have v2.1.1 on them already since they showed up Wed in stores — one big firmware failing is not working WiFi WPA/WPA2 (except it seems with Apple wireless access points only)–

all u guys r a prey of Apple. Do u think it’s ok that you spent so much money on the iPhone and ONLY expect the features mentioned above. Stability???? The iPhone should have been stable since the first day of release. I can’t believe this s-hit. If microsoft did smth like this it would get sued the crap out. But OH No poor apple, it’s ok we’ll wait a year until the iPhone gets stable. I HATE apple. They r a bunch of rippoffs. I’ll never buy an iPhone again. This is the last time. Never buy apple products. And yes mac sucks. The worst operating system ever. I could go on for years about the amount of problems it’s got. And yes I expected turn by turn, copy/paste and I’m not waiting for christmass. Idiots. I’m pissed. All this money and nothing. I was sooo much happier with my Sony Ericsson but I got to be a prey of apple with all that hype about the iPhone. Apple should get sued for f u c king over all of us. I hate this thing is stupid. I expected so much more from it. And to all u idiots who think it’s ok that the next update has no new features but just some bug fixes that should have been fixed a week after launch date, just jump off some bridge or get a life. Either way works.

iPhone 2.1 adds Genius playlists and the bug fixes mentioned. Nike + is not on the current iPhones even with the 2.1 update. Only the new iPod touch second generation has this built-in.

I'm with TiPB on this one. I would rather stability first.

Also i noticed you said... "the kid on christmas" in all of us... Well... it's not christmas yet right? Maybe we will get that nice update around December =)

Also. correct me if i'm wrong but... isn't Nike + just an acceleromator anyway? So couldn't they just patch in some sort of Nike + Software into the iPhone?

Or is it a different type of Hardware that does that?

Anyone know why iPhone isn’t getting the Nike+ love? I was really hoping for this because I’ve recently gotten back into running, and my iPhone with Nike+ would be the perfect running partner. No dongle would make it even better. Why no iPhone compatibility?

To the commenter who claims the author was “remarkably cynical”, I disagree. He’s just being a realist about everything. Yes, the iPhone is great, but yes it’s got problems that need to be solved. That said, I don’t even see much cynicism in the article. Maybe the commenter was referring to other posts by the same author??

If it were indeed only the above-mentioned performance and bug fixes, then the release would be 2.0.2. Since they have incremented the middle digit for this release, it will have some new user features.

BTW, I think you're remarkably cynical, (in general, not just this article) about the iPhone considering you're one whose business it is to follow iPhone-related events. Cynicism ≠ Interesting journalistic style.
