For a beta version of a phone I think the G1 is pretty good, however the complete lack of intuitive-ness when compared to the iPhone means that Apple has little reason to be worried about it for now. Once the next version comes out, and most of the fatal intuitivity flaws are fixed, Apple will have their work cut out for them because of the potential for developers with so many less hoops to jump through than creating software the iPhone. And thus so many more options...

The G1 is still fresh and still has time to improve. I think it will create a healthy competitive drive with other phones, but I still think the iPhone is in a class of it's own. It's design, intuitive nature, and the culture that it creates, will keep it on top. Just like all the different mp3 players that are available on the market that can't compare to the iPod.

The new BB Bold has improved its multimedia abilities. For the record(MATT)the BB Bold renders web pages just as well as the iphone, simply a smaller screen. I have a 3G iPhone and loved it at first, but then I kept yearning for the video recording, mms, and physical keyboard. I have since switched to the Bold. I also havent ran into any problems with programs or the intranet crashing on me, like the iPhone. I won't lie, I find myself itching to go back to the iPhone. I just remind myself of the missing features that are standard on all other phones!

the G1 doesn't have to be successful just the OS needs to be since they won't be tied down to one phone brand. interesting is the cost to build the G1 is slightly cheaper and yet they couldn't afford a glass screen, definitly a miss.

I am really liking these reviews. They are so in-depth and give you good insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the devices. I wish I had this when I was in the market for one. The G1 will catch up to the iPhone. Some of the best apps for the iPhone came straight from Google so you have to think they'll match what they did for the iPhone.

Looking at the G1 is like looking back in time to the original iPhone OS. With all it's bugs and awkwardness, it makes you appreciate how far the iPhone has come in such short time. Sure we're still lacking in features, but look at every other cell phone maker and tell me how many years and new handsets we would have seen to get this far.

Considering the fact that it's a new OS, with previously unheard of challanges, I really can't complain at the pace Apple is moving. Bugs and stability come first to Apple and they deserve that credit. Every new update, combined with new markets and carriers, brings new problems. Not to mention the fun new features they DO add to keep us happy, those don't come without their own problems and tweaks.

Make no mistakes, the G1 WILL have many of the same hurdles to overcome. But almost every other cell phone maker has attempted an iClone and failed miserably. At least the G1 has made it to the ballpark. But the fact that it still wouldn't beat the original iPhone is a pretty strong message. I just hope apple doesn't get lazy with it and allow anyone to catch up. But considering the fact that they haven't slowed down on the iPod when nobody else even has directions to that ballpark...

Granted the iphone has a few flaws, it still the best phone in my books, and I'm confident that apple will eventually give us cut/paste and MMS, it just might take a little while. Till than there is always jailbreaking

Bla1ze, I agree. The G1 has a desktop quality OS, unlike blackberry. The G1 has a quality browser, unlike blackberry. The blackberry does email the best but the G1 does gmail the best. Android is designed for multimedia users, just like the iPhone. Both apple and google will get better with business, but I don't see rim competing strongly in media.

Early or not for the G1 and lack of sexiness, it's still the only device out there that actually puts a comparison to the iPhone, all these Apple/RIM comparisons were getting really, really tired considering the markets for the devices are imo on a totally different level, this was a refeshing look at the two devices which are fighting for the same consumer.

I know it's still early for the g1 but I don't think it holds a candle to the iPhone. Granted it has a cpl perks but overall iphone wins in my book. And hopefully g1 will start offering upgrades like iPhone and apple will get on the ball to stay ahead of the game!!
