haahaha for sure. Just like the zune has made apple’s numbers even better, the zune phone’s flop would have increased iphone sales

still prefer the berry personally but i like apple stock better.

In spite of the sales (based on cool factor and capabilities) this phone is the most troublesome and unreliable phone ever marketed. It can go dead and demand to be plugged in at any given instant.

Now that they have established clear leadership its time to use that power to shrug off ATT’s death grip, sell unlocked phones in all countries, and step up to the plate for reliability.

I predicted 13 million. w00t!

Anyway yeah, this is awesome progress for Apple. I hope it continues to get better.

1) Sales “from the end of October…” — Apple’s call included sales from several weeks earlier than the analysts’ estimated, so you can forgive the analysts a couple hundred thousand sales here, at least.

2) The analyst compared iPhone Sales through AT&T vs G1 sales through TMobile only. We do not know (unless it was also in that call), how many iPhones were sold through AT&T, how many through Rogers, TMobile-Germany, and so on. Similarly, we do not know the breakdown of the G1 in the US vs the UK or other countries. I would bet that international iPhone sales far outstrip international G1 sales, as well, but we do not have the numbers yet — perhaps after Google or TMobile’s meetings?

So no, nobody can say by how much the iPhone outsold the G1. It may have been 6-to-1, it may have been more. However, regardless of the actual numbers, nobody can deny that Apple had a fantastic quarter and year, in which they exceeded even their own predictions and carved a dominant presence in the smartphone market. Congratulations!

Were they really that far off. Is it more like 12 to 1 in sales??
