Crazy Screenshot Friday: iPhone Temperature Warning?

UPDATE: Anon in the comments points out that, per Apple knowledge base, it’s totally real. Boy, I need to move to a warmer country!
Jeff sent this in and none of us have ever seen it before (then again, it’s still cold in Montreal so I’d have to throw my iPhone in an oven to even try and test it):
Don’t sit next to a pool in Scottsdale Arizona when it’s 104 degrees or your iphone will melt away! So how to fix it fast? I put the iPhone between 2 cold beers and it worked!
Anyone else ever see this before?

im currently in iraq and we’ve already hit up in the 110′s and i havnt seen this yet, i guess im just lucky
Apparently its real

LOL that’s hilarious, but I would still use mine even if this shot was real and not photoshopped. I would just bring it into Apple if it broke and got a refurb or brand new iPhone, depending on when this happend…
It is very real. I left my phone in the sun in cleveland Ohio and I saw that very screen. Eventually the phone worked wheni put it in the shade.
Yeah, it’s real, I’ve seen this happen before after leaving it in a car on a hot day for awhile
yup its totally real…i thought someone was joking with me when I heard them tell me about it a couple weeks ago…he left his phone in the car too long and overheated…
Ive seen this. I also left my phone in the car last summer and it got very hot.
It is real. I heard that Paris Hilton got this message on her iphone a while back. She exclaimed, “That’s hot.”
I don’t think this is real I see the same image when I plug my iPhone to my alpine car stereo but it doesn’t say anything about temperature it only advices that my device is not compatible… And by the way I’ve talked on my phone for 5 hours while it was plugged in charging ang I was on beta 4 and I never saw this fake screenie
And my phone was so hot it was burning my ear ( while it was pluged in charging)
@Tyler shut up you moron!
@Spidesol – Looks like you are the moron. Why bother posting your nonsense (in three consecutive posts no less) when you don’t even read what people have posted before you? It’s been established that this is a real screenshot. I’ve seen it on my 3G after leaving it in my car and checked out what it meant at Apple’s support site. Here’s the link (since you obviously missed it from post #3) http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2101
Maybe your plugged in iPhone not only burned your ear, but fried your brain as well.
@Scott Rosenberg Thanks for getting my back, Scott.
This is 100 percent real….I left my phone in the car all day because I work in a secure environment ……I came out pick my phone up and almost shitted a brick………I immediately threw it in my lunch cooler
I live in Uzbekistan. And we have up to 60 degrees Celsius for about 40 days in the summer. Seems like I will need another phone to use during that period
. (I got my iPhone last autumn).
That’s cool though. Giving you a warning before your phone explodes (or melts away). I always try to make sure my iPhone isn’t too hot. Glad this will show up if I get too careless.
It’s very real, left the phone overnight on top of an overheating laptop.
@Mr. High-Definition: You can’t do that because Apple states the operation temperatures and the information is openly available to you what temperatures the iPhone should NOT be used in. If you do this and your phone breaks, it is in violation of the warranty and Apple will not give you a new phone.
It’s happened to me as well. It gets mighty warm in the hood….
ive had that happen b4… and when skiing froze.
@spidesol you are definitely the moron, not the person who made a mildly funny joke. This is obviously real, and just because the “device is not compatible” screen looks similar to the temperature one, doesnt mean the temp one cant be real too.
Wow mine gets pretty hot too sometimes but I’ve never seen that, it must have been at the point of selfdestruction. But it is kinda nice that it can warn u instead of other phones that just fry.
Hahaha good one
thanks for this! i’ve only had my iphone for about a month, but today it’s supposed to be 103 and its only May 9th. I’ve left my phone in my car a few times but will be much more careful as the wicked days of summer are fast upon us here in arizona. if it’s 115 outside i wonder now if i’ll be able to use my phone at all. i’ll have to carry an icepack LOL.
I have had that happen to me once. I left my phone on the dashboard of my car recording a GPS track in hot weather and when I got home, that screen came up. I put my iPhone in the freezer for a while and it fixed it! Pretty funny.
Yeah, I have to agree with others… And the exact string was found in a file on jailbroken phones.
This is real remember people the iPhone is not like a regular cell phone and like a computer it’s not good if it over heats. So leaving it in the car is the most stupid thing
It is real, happened to me 2 days ago, after I had left my iphone in the car for about an hour here in Greece, the temperature outside was about 23 Celsious degrees, but in the car with the sun hitting it, it could easily be around 40…
Wow this isn’t good, because I’m a professional chef n always in da kitchen. I will deft have 2 go 2 walmart n get n ice pack for my phone.
Mmm, I need a warning when it is too cold. I once typed in a long email in the middle of nowhere near Montreal at -20 C and then backspaced one letter. The whole message was deleted one character at the time and I could just watch in horror. After that the keyboard adn the whole phone became almost unresponsive until I warmed it up. But in Cupertino it never gets cold, so no need for “iPhone needs to warm up” warnings… Too bad, I can think of a nice icon that would go with that.
i live in Bullhead City, AZ (one of the hottest places on earth) where the temp can easily reach 135-138 in the summer and i’ve already seen this on a friend’s iphone after it was left in the car for a few hours and it hasnt gotten above 110
Happened to me a month ago when I left my ipod in the car all afternoon on a hot day.
I wouldn’t recommend ice packs or throwing your iphone in a cooler. Condensation that is likely to form will not only void the warrantee, but possibly do more damage than the heat itself.
i had to exchange my work iphone a month ago due to this error…. granted, the phone must have been defective since i left it in a room where it’s a constant 65 degrees and it would give me this error after 20 minutes!
Hey, it’s real! I’m the one who posted the photo! It was a surprise to me when it happened.
And the two beers did fix it by the way!
Not to mention the heat is really bad for the LiIon battery – it will really shorten its life.
i am sure this happened due to over charge, dropped or calling someone while charging coz only way to getout of this is pressing power & home button together till restart
I actually saw this today on my phone. I had left it in my car on a warm day. It’s real. Absolutely. When I tried to use it, it would only allow for emergency calls–like when it is password lock and the number of attempts exceeds the allowable number. The glass was blistering hot, so maybe it is protective for the user also. But my real guess is that they phone doesn’t work as well at that heat. I just put it up to my car air conditioning for about a minute and the phone cooled enough to use.
I get this message on my phone but its there everytime I turn it; the phone then goes into standby after a few seconds and I can’t use it!!! Any ideas from anyone as to how to resolve it; it only seems to have started after going to 2.2.1
this just happened to mine today after my son dropped it in the bathtub and turned the water on i decided to put it in my front seat for a little while to dry out. it must have been to hot because i get this message now. the bad thing is, it’s been about 6 hours, the phone is cool to touch now and it still won’t come on. maybe the moisture inside it. maybe it will work tomorrow.
@Bryan:
Hot things in cold environment will not produce any condensation. Need to be a cool thing in an hot environment for that to happend, so putting your iPhone in the cooler is no problem and no worries for it to condensate. BUT, putting an icepack on your phone means that the icepack will condensate
yep because my iphone is doing it right now ! and how do i get rid of it !! HELPPP ??
change battery!!
it is real. it happened to me when I left it out in the sun while i went swimming, which i will never do again. i cooled it down by keeping it in the AC-ed house for a while. it worked. THANK GOD.
it is real, i have the same problem, i can’t fix it:S
How do you fix it?!?!
i have a i phone 4 and this just happend to me a few minutes ago but the weird thing is that i read up on this and it says it happesn when ur phone over heats or u have 3g on and so on…butt my phone was sittin here in my cool room since i have the ac on and i wasnt even using it besides sending 5 text msgs in the past 20 minutes. also my 3g or cellular data were not on. nor were any applications or music. i have no idea why this would have happend so i am going to contact apple for furtur inquires.
I also just got a false temperature warning on my new iPhone 4 while it was sitting in a cool 65°F/18°C room not plugged in, not doing anything but receiving push notifications from a security camera app. Apple stores are replacing some phones over this as they have a tool that lets them look at the internal/chip temps for the past 2 weeks (so take it in right away if you can) and if it’s their chip temp problem you hopefully get to walk out with a new phone – for those lucky enough to live near an Apple store, which I don’t. Just saying, this isn’t necessarily about ambient room temp, it’s about internal or chip temp and is a somewhat known problem. What would have been NICE is if it was a bit more in the open and known to people who HADN’T seen it because it suddenly goes into brick mode and starts alternating thru a world of languages about emergency calls only and it’s frightening at first because it’s just all freaky and you don’t realize WTF is wrong with it until you look it up. I thought it was some sort of virus at first… NOT FUN.
Check iCelsius for temperature monitoring using the iPhone
