iPhone Dev-Team: Mac OS X 10.5.7 Safe for Jailbreak, Fixes DFU Bug

Good news for Mac OS X-based Jailbreakers! After having to resort to using powered USB hubs or patching in older versions of files to work around a bug in 10.5.6 that prevented DFU mode from being recognized, the iPhone Dev-Team dropped a note a Twitter to give 10.5.7 the all-clear:

The new 10.5.7 Leopard update is safe. In fact it’s more jailbreak-friendly than 10.5.6, since the DFU-mode bug is gone.

So no nasty cat-and-mouse-game shenanigans this time around, and even a slight improvement over the previous — unintentional — round.

Only one thing left — figure out what to do with all those now-redundant USB hubs…

    Told you Frog.

    It was a bug.

  2. Jason says:

I still believe that although Apple may try to make an intellectual argument against jailbreaking, they aren’t taking active steps to stop it because it likely isn’t costing them much money at all. Any update that seems to “break” one’s ability to jailbreak is likely an unintended side effect. This update seems to support that theory.

I’ve lost track of all this stuff. Am i still unable to jailbreak on the current generation unibody MacBook?

  4. Allen says:

Justin M, You can still jailbreak on your current generation unibody Macbook once you update your Mac OSX to 10.5.7.

  7. Will says:

I installed a bug fix on 10.5.6, and it led to my computer having to be sent off to apple for 3 weeks…so, as you may imagine, I’m a little nervous about downloading this one and trying it. Will it definitely not mess up my computer? For sure? Need help please…
