Return of the iPhone 3.0 Direct Movie + TV Show Download Rumors!
Following last week's crazy screen rumor that iPhone 3.0 would add movie and TV show direct, on-device downloads to the current music and audio and video podcast downloads, Apple Insider reports that they have:
...learned from people familiar with Apple's training program that new self-guided training materials being distributed to familiarize AppleCare agents with the features of iPhone 3.0 software "definitely covered" the ability to directly download movies and TV shows on the device itself, rather than just syncing video content through iTunes.
And points out that "Apple never puts out product training this far ahead of a product launch."
So what's going on with that? We figure it'll be Wi-Fi only, but could there be anything else going on here?

One wonders why there is a training package for this at all?
Its seems so obvious to use that no training would be necessary for the Apple Care agents.
If the training is out early does that mean:
1) Its problematic? 2) This has been "in the can" waiting to go for a long time 3) Release is closer than we think?
This would make 4 iPhone OS apps (iPod, Music Store, App Store, and Video Store) to do what the "full" iTunes does. They can't really combine them, though, because of the limited size of the iPhone's screen. I'm just not looking forward to yet another built in app that takes up space on a home screen.
@Muero:
Most of the screen shots seem to suggest its done from within itunes on the phone. I didn't see anything suggesting it was a separate app.
Downloading lil music videos would be cute but I don't know about movies and tv shows, unless they stream em to the phone
Downloading TV shows occasionally might be nice, to get the episode you missed.
The few I downloaded were about 500,000KB (500 meg) so you won't be keeping many of these on your phone.
Realistically, you can watch them full screen in Itunes, on your computer, so why would you view them on your phone unless you were traveling and expected to be bored.
man downloading a movie to ur phone seems like it would take to long to b interesting
They need to stream over 3G while downloading (optional of course) and allow rentals.
Also they need to make it so that when you go on iTunes on your computer it automatically download (with prompt) instead of having to transfer purchases from the iPhone because that's slow and annoying over USB.
I'd use this. I like to watch movies and tv while I travel. It'd be great to be able to rent a flick while I'm in the field. Sure, it's probably over Wi-Fi. But that's fine. It'd also be a good use for the 802.11n and 32GBs of storage that the new device should have.
