iPhone 2010 to go Multi-Core ARM Next Gen?
CNET has an interesting post up detailing what we can expect in the next generation ARM processor. Just yesterday we took a look at the iPhone 3G’s ARM 11 vs. the new iPhone 3G S’ Cortex ARM8 and the difference was impressive — most impressive. Well, next year is promising a dual-core ARM Cortex A9…!
Icebike sent this in, wondering out loud: “Is it too soon to start speculating on 2010?” And the simple answer is “no, no it’s not!” It’s longstanding practice here at TiPb to wait a polite 1.372 seconds after a new iPhone model is introduced, and then begin with “So, next year–”
That spirit in mind, TiPb can’t help but wonder what this, combined with multi-core PowerVR GPU’s, wrapped up into custom system-on-chips by Papermaster, the PA Semi team, and all those new GPU gurus toiling away in Steve’s basement, means for a 2010 iPhone? (No, I won’t call it an iPhone HD — yet!)
At the very least, I think DC comics is going to have to invent us a faster Flash!

And this is one more reason, why I’ll try to do my best not to buy a 3G S.
Its not just getting a better processor or SoC. This better hardware also needs to draw less power also.

You all are VERY wrong if you think ANOTHER iPhone will be coming out even faster then the 3Gs before the year is out.
You won’t see a major change like that until next year. So you want to wait till that long for a faster iPhone? fine be my guest.

Well I think I am going to just go ahead and get the Iphone 3gs and sell my 3g. Yes I caved in. I changed my mind when everytime I clicked on an app the iphone seemed to slow down. And I am interested in what the Jailbreaking community can do with the phone. So yeah, getting a 3gs..although I may wait until they go refurbished.
Oh plus I get discounts on the data plan and I can upgrade yearly so its no big deal.

It’s not that I wouldn’t love to get a 3G S, it’s just Apple seems to think the 3G is good for another year of service. I rather buy the next one, when they discontinue the 3G. Everybody says it’s smart to buy every 2 years, so be it.
How about throwing a Tegra in there?
Nvidia seems to have a good relationship with Apple atm, I don’t think they’d mind 
IF this will be 2010.. probability that this will be announced on January Macworld?? or any Apple kick off event since they will no longer participating in the Macworld.
I think we’ll see Apple finally break compatibility and give us a larger, higher-res screen. This will be Rene’s iPhone HD.
It won’t have an OLED screen because they’re practically useless outdoors, especially in direct sunlight.
Apple could be sly and buy PixelQi and keep the tech exclusively for the iPhone and MacBooks. iPhone HD as a low-power e-book reader…. awesome.
MIMO HSPA+ would be great so the damn thing won’t keep dropping calls. Of course it’ll also mean faster and more stable data connections.
Oh and of course, the PA Semi Cortex-A8 SoC. Faster? Maybe. Better power management and longer battery life? Hell yeah!
The next 2010 model will be iPhone 3G owners delight, like the current 3G S is iPhone 2G owners delight.

Do you really think that apple will switch resolution? all the apps will be useless then, if not the have an emulator, which in a mobile device requires to much
what i really miss is Fm Radio, apple should also add Fm Radio as well in upcoming iPhone 2010, it would make an iPhone complete Jukebox.
I have first gen iPhone 3G and want to upgrade to the “S” model but have told to wait till mid next year. My only question is how long to I have to wait? This can on for ever with it changing just about every 12 to 16 months. Right now I think the “S” model has heat issues so I will be holding of for a bit.
I don’t picture apple coming out with an iPhone with HD capabilities in the near future. The difference of watching HD video on such a small screen would be so small it would hardly matter, not to mention the extra space HD video would take up.
I think their main focus will continue to be battery life and the iPhone software. Upgraded hardware is always welcome, if personally like to see a 10mp camera with a zoom, and a camera button. But illnkeep dreaming.
ps. I think the smartest thing apple can be focusing on right now is opening doors to other carriers, AT&T is holding the iPhone back IMHO. Looking forward to that is 2010!
It will certainly be a smaller form phone – same size screen but smaller size phone (maybe slightly thicker though).
Since I’m on a contract subscription, I’ll only be able to do an upgrading 2011. Guess this time I need to be patient and wait for the announcement before upgrading again.

I would love to see a more better difference in the next iphone. It will be great to see what the competitors come up with next year… we can all laugh at nokia’s attempts to make touch screen phones… makes me laugh out loud literally when i use them. my friend has an n97, it looks real nice but the touch screen is about as responsive as a bag of potatoes and the games hahahahaah there was this guitar one that things came along and you had to touch each thing as it came to you.. did i mention the game looked liked 16 bit colour, so so funny. Iphone just needs a 5mp camera, xenon flash and then everyone can shut up about their samsung renoirs and nokia n849 and n82 slide twist flip and drip phone.

I hope they come out with another IPhone in 2010. Apple has always came out with a new IPhone every summer so, I’m waiting until 2010 to get whatever they come out with. I currently have th IPhone 3G and there is not difference in the IPhone 3G and the IPhone 3GS.
I really think the dual core processor will support my prediction that the next iPhone will for sure have real multitasking and it might have a front facing camera for iChat mobile. Plus I want iWork mobile and iLife mobile, so I can do my school work.

If you read the post most of the potentially misspelled words are “jargon”. At least we didn’t get 4 for for and 2 for to and too. God, I can’t stand that. All these decades I have been on computers and still I’m not able to tolerate anything more than a smiley face…

While I totally agree with the turning the CAPS off I would also recommend the use of the return key on occasion so as to create that wonderful thought organising construct known as a paragraph. Remember in writing/composition when they said that if it was a new thought or idea it was worth considering starting a new paragraph? Hmmm,… maybe they don’t teach that anymore. Sad.
All that said, I think I actually agree with iKarlos. Too bad all caps is so painful to read.
Resolution is irrelevant when you consider that you have to rescale whenever you rotate the screen. More power will make this fairly easy to deal with.
Oled is on a new Nikon $400 Point and Shoot camera so maybe it will make it to the iPhone.
We can but hope for all of these things and more. I’m not holding my breath either way.

Ok ikarlos is back, hey guys just to bring your some new and juicy news to you, I’m sorry for the guys that thought my caps were annoying, didnt know i was writting an essay rather than just stating facts and some rumors. Lets get started shall we, well as you know i did mention Verizon and Apple working together, well that bond is over folks, Droid was introduced and well lets just say it wasnt liking the iphone and called it the “beauty queen” and “the idont”, ouch that’s harsh because the Droid is like the iphone’s ugly twin sister lmao, serisouly have u seen it? Its very bad and qwerty board its just to hard and cheap looking, sure it can be larger and higher res. screen but the fact is no other phone can live up to the iphone’s touchscreen technology its one of a kind, I mean the photos on the Droid are just average and night isn’t that well to begin with. So no the Iphone won’t be coming to Verizon anytime time soon, sorry. Next, yes we all now know about the new iphone coming by June or July of next year but you will see more on the next Apple’s macworld. As a 3G owner I can’t upgrade til next October 2010, but what I would like to see in the next Iphone:
1) FM Tuner with live Pause and capture, TV through Antenna also with live pause and capture. 2) Multi Task ability, at least with some programs 3) a track touch pad so I don’t have to use the touch screen as often 4) of course faster processor, possible the dual core that is talked about 5) 5 Mega Pixel Camera, 720P 30 fps video recording, minimum. 6) High res OLED touch screen, the new google phone has 400×800 OLED vs 200×320 with the current IPhone, so this sure not be a problem. 7) Everything seems to be going 3D now in 2010, so 3D on the Screen would be a nice touch.
Options for different user operating menu to better organize Apps for faster access
9) Certainly faster 3G internet,
10) More Ram, more memory 64 GB
This all I can think of for now, more ideals will come to mind.
