Had a problem with my I-Phone 3GS. I was getting great Wi-Fi connectivity with my Netgear BG router. I upgraded to a Netgear N router and my I-phone would see my network but would not connect. It would only connect to the other 6 access points in the area but not the N router. I figured that if the BG router was set for channel 11 and the phone would connect, so I changed the N router channel to 11 and viola it connected. FANTASTIC!! Lets see how long this works.

I've got the same problem with fluctuating signal bars on wifi... I'm connected to a strong wifi signal, my other devices works perfect on it excluding my Ipod Touch 2g 4.1

This started when i restored and updated my ipod to iOS 4.1.. it was working fine until i decided to jailbreak it!
So Jailbreak was unsuccessful for iOS 4.1 version.. i restored it again, and still no access to WiFi..

i've tried rebooting router, resetting my network; changing the DNS; on and off device; on and off router; restoring my ipod for like 10times!; erasing all contents and setting; reset ALL; i've tried downgrading it but still no luck, it always say that the firmware is incompatible even if i downloaded the right one...

:(((( wish that i didn't jailbreak it at 4.1 or even updating to the 4.1 version... coz it messed it up real bad :( so far no jailbreaking and downgrading method has worked for me :(((

hope on finding effective solutions

This wifi issue has been a long history and basically if you do a search there are a lot of complaint from iphone to itouch. Basically there are no solution to the problem but to leave with it. I have the same problem like anyone here call my phone provider and call apple service center all cannot solve it. The best part is if your warranty finish they will ask you to send to your provider and exchange 1 which you have to pay. I think we iphone user are all sucker now.

My work just upgraded to Iphones. I received my first Iphone on this last Tuesday and there was a problem with the microphone... it just wouldn't work. The phone, however, did everything else just fine INCLUDING WIFI. So I paid the $29 dollar rush fee to have a new phone sent to me ASAP and gues what -- the new phone's microphone does work but it does not connect to damned wifi networks. Just for your information the specs of the two phones are as follows (phone 1 is the origianl phone that had working wifi, phone 2 is the new phone that doesn't hook up to wifi)
Phone 1:
model number: MC640LL
serial number: 86034w0redg
Phone 2:
model number: MC555LL
serial number: 5k0351r0edg

I am heading off to our local ATT store now to try to get this mess sorted out. My husband told me not to pick the iphone for my new work phone and to instead go with the more "fail safe" black berry option... que sira sira ...

This may sound a strange way to attempt to fix your iPhone Wi-Fi woes, but it has worked on mine. Put your iPhone in a zip-lock plastic bag and stick it in the freezer. Leave it in there for half and hour or so, longer won't do it any harm. When you take it out, your Wi-Fi will be working. Be careful of condensation though, so it's probably best if you leave it in the bag until it's warmed back up again.

Why this worked on mine, I have no clue. I was sceptical when I read about this working, but thought I'd give it a try. How permanant the solution is, I also have no clue. Good luck!

My 2G on OS 3.1.2 developed this wifi snag about 2 months ago. Multiple resets, restores, and upgrades did not work. Resigned to the fact that I have to live on EDGE and inflated bills. I am here to make an interesting observation. Before the wifi failed, my iphone used to get overheated - sometimes while charging, sometimes while on a call (I had to literally take it off the ear because of the heat), sometimes whil playing games, etc. And sometimes without a reason at all.
Now interestingly, after the wifi has gone, it no longer heats up - no matter how much I charge, or talk, or play. So, perhap my guess is some motherboard or chip problem should be causing the wifi issues in iPhones. Maybe an overheated chip could have permanently burnt the wifi chip on motherboard. Any similar observations? Also, if this is true, is there any replacement wifi chip available and who does these repairs on out-of-warranty iphones? Thanks!

I have the problem where my iphone will connect once, then once it locks won't connect again.

I know it is not the router b/c my wife has the same iphone, same os same version everything and hers works perfectly.

I've changed encryption (WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA/WPA2 mixed mode and TKIP and AES of all)
I've changed channels (11, 10, 6, 1)
I've changed hertz (20/40 mix)

But, then I keep going back to my wife's phone. I stare at it in amazement - just working fine. AFter reboots, locks etc. Keeps connecting perfectly. Also all the laptops (1Mac, 1PC) desktops (win7) and servers (linux) in the house work perfectly.

I've also reset the iphone to factory after resetting the network several times.

The only thing that changed network related was that I installed a network app on my iphone Nice Trace (traceroute). I don't think that did it, but after the factory reset I checked the box to stop my iphone from automatically sysc'ing and then unchecked it b/f the sync back so it never touched the fresh firmware.

My Iphone is borked, just borked.

Hi all!
I am having some issues with my iphone 3G.. I can connect wi-fi at home when I am close to my router but if I go some steps away it just misses the connection.
I also detect wi-fi everywhere I go but get the message could not activate celular data network.
I am a journalist and sometimes when I am at the press room and cannot get a computer to use I try to use iphone for twitter and emails but it's very frustrating it does not work at all.
Your help is much appreciated!

I have had the same wi fi connectivity issues where there is a strong signal and yet the Internet connection just kept on timing out.

On a cnet website it suggested that you simply go to Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings - the screen then goes blank with an apple motif then appears to switch off and resets itself back to normal.

At the moment it seems to have fully resolved the issues. You do not by the way lose any data but will have to retype in any password setting. Hope this helps but they don't guarantee it will help every user.

Had problems connected and dropping wifi as well as range issues with a netgear router and both the iPod touch and iPhone 3gs. I changed channels on the netgear router, as suggested on another site, for the iPod touch to channel 3 and it fixed all issues. I just used another suggestion from a previous post on this thread for the iPhone 3gs and netgear routers. I changed the setting in the router to G only and it fixed all issues too. Hope it helps someone.

I had the same wi-fi dropping signal and poor performance on the iPhone 3GS and 3rd gen iPod touch too. To fix the issue, I set my Airport Extreme's wireless channel from automatic detection/selection to a fixed channel (11) as recommended by someone above and it FIXED the issue. My wi-fi is now great.

I have been chasing a problem for 2 days with my 3GS not being able to connect with my home network which uses a Airport extreme and an airport express as a booster. Rest, reconfigured, started from scratch a half a dozen times. This network worked before with no problems. Then I had to sit and think what changed, what had I done, reversed latest updates, didn't work, ran pc laptop in safe mode, no luck, unplugged modem and airport express over night, no luck. Couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Then I remembered I had recently added a set of wireless headphones. The transmitter was blocking the signal. Not sure how, not sure why, but that was it. Removed the transmitter and my wifi is back and the number of dropped calls stopped at the same time. Not sure if this had an effect on the calls but it sure did cure the connection problems.

Jeez, I hate Iphones. My wifes wifi packed in after just 2 weeks.
I tried the "airplane off, wifi on" trick and it works at full strength so ok for Skype calls and then switch back.

My old Iphone works fine as does my iphone touch, go figure!

I'll use this until a proper fix comes along.

I, too, have the same problem! Except my iPhone 3G (on 3.1.3 - just upgraded coz I thought it'd help) finds available networks but wont connect regardless if its secure or not i.e. wont connect to my secure home network OR the motel next door's unsecure network.
It's come to this - I've put my phone in the freezer for 10 minutes (placed it in a sealed lunch bag & covered it with a teatowel) and it still didnt work. Then reset network settings on iPhone and STILL didnt work.
My laptop can connect to both networks. I tried resetting router, iPhone, changing router password or making it unsecure (i.e. no password), freezer, network reset but it's doing my head in!

HELLP! (the extra 'L' in HELP intended)

I've been having wifi trouble with my 3Gs 16gb is 3.2.1, and my partners 32gb iPod touch 3.2.1.
The problem we have is their wifi keeps forgetting the passwords, on both our Sky home broadband sagem router and on the BT Business router at my work place, it would be fine for a couple of days then it would start asking for passwords again, I've almost completley memorised them as a result, sometimes I just have to give up and use my EDGE connection.

Anyone know why this happens?

after messing with my Iphone for the better part of a day i finally reset my entire wireless network (prompted by the suggestion to downgrade to version 7.4.1. Now the phone works just fine. Before you go crazy with the phone - go to a public non secure wifi to see if it connects. If so reset your home network. After all it's quite easy to do, but be sire to reset all airport express units - I suspect that one of these may have been the culprit.

3GS and BT Home Hub 2 - can get connection speeds of 6Mb from laptop but only 0.6Mb on iPhone.
Also, bars fluctuate from 1 to 3 continuously.

Yes I have an Ipod touch 2g with 3.1 firmware and I have the same prob. I have my own wifi network at home. Every now and then i'll see just 2 bars instead of 1. When that first happened I was nervous that someone was using my connection lol! Could that be so when i see the bar drop?

Not sure.

iPod Touch 2nd Gen ~ the wifi on this is about as stable as Charles Manson on Crack. Two months back it stopped working all together after the "upgrade" to 3.0. Changed router, added stronger antennae, upgraded to 3.2 and it has worked perfect for two months until TONIGHT. I have a wireless footprint that is so strong I can go over 100ft in any direction and 'sniff' it. Both my macbook AND my DROID phone have no issues with the wifi yet tonight, the iPod can't even get a signal - SITTING ON TOP OF THE #@*% router!!! Multiple resets... no good. Cleared settings... no good. I have resigned myself to the fact that some nights it's just going to be a $500 turd. (I bought it first day it came out) And this is why (Listen Apple) I diversify my technology. This post was written on a Verizon Wireless powered Droid phone running the Android O/S... it just plain works.

iPod Touch 2nd Gen ~ the wifi on this is about as stable as Charles Manson on Crack. Two months back it stopped working all together after the “upgrade” to 3.0. Changed router, added stronger antennae, upgraded to 3.2 and it has worked perfect for two months until TONIGHT. I have a wireless footprint that is so strong I can go over 100ft in any direction and ‘sniff’ it. Both my macbook AND my DROID phone have no issues with the wifi yet tonight, the iPod can’t even get a signal – SITTING ON TOP OF THE #@*% router!!! Multiple resets… no good. Cleared settings… no good. I have resigned myself to the fact that some nights it’s just going to be a $500 turd.

Or could it be that this is Apples way of making you buy their new upgraded Iphone. I just realized that OS update that screwed up the WIFI was 1 year after the 3G first came out here in the Philippines. Their warranty is only for 1 year. Now you can't complain without having to pay. I hope this isn't their gimmick. But I hate that Apple won't replace their faulty products.

My iphone 3G's wifi was working great until i updated to 3.1. Now it is dead. It says "No Wifi" connection. I upgraded this back in Sept 2009, still nothing. I'm in the Philippines, we don't have Apple Genius' here like in the US. I went to my mobile carrier to complain about it, the person told me they'll have to send it out for a fee charge to me for about US$300, but they said Apple will usually replace it. WTF?!!!! Why do I have to pay for something Apple messed up themselves. If it was my fault, no problem. But I just did the updates like they tell us to. I've had the iphone 3G working perfectly for a year cause I got it when it came out Sept 2008, but since the 3.1 update in September, no more Wifi for me. I wonder did they do it so I'll be forced to use my mobile carriers date service, and be charged for it, instead of using free Wifi wherever its available?

New replacement iPhone 3GS. Wireless worked great at the Apple Store, at home after upgrading to new 3.1 software and connecting to home network, wireless connection is slow to dead. I can run speed tests and max out at 10mbs! But most tests ut spikes than drops to zero before the test ends. I had no problems with my other phone on thus network.

I show full bars eventhough I can't connect using safari. Email and AppStore and iTunes seem to be working well too.

Running a cable modem/router. Motorola Surfboard on Comcast system.

Any tips, thoughts or fixes? Please email.

I have a Motorola Surfboard

My two boys both have identical iPOD Touches. Both have all the same software revisions and settings. One works great with our wireless router and stays connected to the internet with no problems. The other drops the internet every few minutes and has to be reset before it works again. Sounds like a problem that can only be fixed by returning the iPOD until you get lucky and find one that works good.

They may be great 'gizmos' to have, but iPhones, especially lately, have been proving largely problematic. Has style now over-ridden substance? Has Apple's mass success made them get lazy? This article at The Music Void sums it up perfectly - have a read. Agree or disagree? http://bit.ly/aML9UT

Hi all,

I've been having issues with my 3gs (OS 3.1.2) not switching to wi-fi from 3G or Edge when I'm at home. I did a bit of research on some Netgear forums (I have an older Netgear wireless router) after seeing Sarge's and JSH's posts.

The forums mentioned that by changing your wireless router's "mode" to "g-only", instead of the default "g and b", you can effectively increase the beacon count. I assume the beacon count affects how often the router sends it's SSID for wireless devices to view.

Regardless, this is working for me today ... wi-fi always attached. Hope this helps folks.

From Australia, ever since I updated my software (to 3.0?), the wifi works randomly every month or so for a few minutes. Given that I have only a limited amount of data I can download from 3G, this is extremely frustrating. Now I can't use wifi to download any games from itunes.

I have a 3g unlocked iphone and I have never got a wifi network. I have tried the network reset as well as using push fix and nothing seems to work. It is showing a wifi address in my general phone settings but it has yet to get wifi. If anyone has any ideas what I can do or check to get wifi please let me know

I think Sarge is on to something. At my office, my 3gs could barely pull 300kbps until I began messing with the beacon interval setting. On that router, the lower I set the beacon, the faster my connection speed. Unfortunately, my cheap netgear router at home doesn't allow me to config the beacon interval.

Change your beacon settings in your router to 1000 (or as high as you can). I did and it solved the slow connection issue for me.

I have exactly the same problem as Freiteez.

Just this weekend i noticed i wasnt connecting to my WIFI from my iphone 3GS (running 3.1.2). My wifi doesnt work AT ALL on my phone now, and I had been using it fine with no problem at all for the past 3mths.

The WIFI searches for networks and it cant find any at all. It used to come up with 2 or 3 whenever I was passing homes etc even in a shopping centre or cafe it doesnt show anything at all. Tried to manually add the the network but it still couldn't be located when searching for networks to join. Not sure what triggered this problem. It's very very strange. I love my iphone but my Nokia used to be much faster. Even the reception was better.

FIVE EASY STEPS TO RESTORING THE WI-FI SIGNAL TO YOUR IPHONE...
Hello,
I haven't looked through all the earlier posts, so don't know if this has been said already, but...
For those with Netgear routers and Wi-Fi issues I can certainly report what worked for me...
1) Your iPhone is just like a laptop trying to connect to the Wi-Fi internet
2) Occasionally it drops the signal
3) When my laptop does this I instantly go to switch the router OFF and ON again (it's an old IT trick I picked up)
4) Take you iPhone with you and wait for the signal to come back up while sitting close to the router
5) Bingo! Before long you get your proper Wi_Fi three bars restored and your iPhone with Wi-Fi is ready to go until the next time the signald drops, in which case repeat steps 1-5 above.
PS: I'm keeping my fingers crossed here because it's only a few hours since I discovered this iPhone issue was the same as with a laptop...

About 2 months I got an IPhone 3GS with O2 (UK network provider). Set up wifi without a hitch, but then over the Christmas period I lost wifi connection (yet the phone was still able to see my network and neighbours as well), no settings had been changed on the phone or router and yet I was getting everything from unable to scan networks to unable to connect to network. I tried everything from restoring the phone, resetting the network settings on the phone, changing the routers wifi settings, changing the SSID name, disabling the security...absolutely everything and I have even purchased a new router to see if it was a router problem. I was still unable to connect and as you could imagine I was at my wits end. I must have spent the best part of 6 hours and £100 (about $160) However by chance, I went back to old router, changed the security to WPA2, changed my network name to one which had no fullstops and no spaces, changed the wireless mode to "g" and changed the wireless channel from 6 to 1. Bugger me (not literaly!) straight onto a solid, no dropping wifi connection. I had thought it was the iphone antenna fault which I had read about as possibly being faulty. However, a visit to my local coffee shop proved that the Iphone antenna was still working. Anyway, apologies for the long post but I hope this entry helps

My experience with this issue is that it starts when I update some applications from iTunes. It happend with my home WiFi first. But WiFi of my parrent's worked well, until I updated applications. During the update it started to fluctuate between one and full bars. I am not sure, but I think that it is not related to any update of iPhone OS because it worked well after my last update for couple of weeks (also iTune updates worked) and started to not work with no clear reason. Mabye it is because we all have some weird application or game installed?

I have the exact same problem as Freiteez. About a week ago, I noticed my Iphone 3G was no longer trying to connect to my home wifi. It cannot be the router as nobody else in the house is having connection issues. I tried to Reset Network Settings and that did not help. I downloaded OS 3.1.2 and it still doesn't work. I tried to google a solution. It seems there are many with this problem, but no one knows what to do.

Hi everyone,

Been going through the same frustration as everyone else. Using the iPhone 3g with the latest updates. Setting my router to transmit on 11a/b/g/n connections and WPA security seems to have done the trick over the Christmas period. However, I went back to work today and had to use 3g throughout the commute, and on my return home it started dropping the wifi connection again, and keeps asking for the password.

So I took out a big empty box, gave it the made-up name of Steve Jobs and kicked it to shreds! Still no wifi, but I feel much better and ready to trawl some more forums...

Hi there I have a iPhone 3g and I get no wifi connection unless I am right next to the router. I have tryied restoring my phone but it was no different. I know it's not the router or connection as my girlfriend has a 3g with the same software and she can get a full signal all over the house. Any ideas thanks.

My iPhone 3G wifi has NOT worked AT ALL ANYWHERE since the big 3.0 update in June 2009. This totally blows. I have tried almost EVERY solution mentioned on the net with NO success! This is ridiculous! One of the main things I used the wifi connection for is the apple remote to control iTunes.

Iphone 3GS 32gb. Purchased just before christmas and it constantly drops my home wireless or shows a connection with 1 bar. I also get messages from my Apps that It cannot connect the the internet.
I have a Dell Trumobile 1184 wireless router. I sit next to the router and it will not help. Firmware Version 3.1.2 (7D11)

Seems Mac is not interested on solving this issues. I've been forwarding this posts regarding network loss. Nothing Worked.

The Scenario (as previous posts):

When Connecting the iPhone to a Wireless it recognizes the setting on general settings but on less than a second, it drop out the connection.

On the otherway, connecting from an application i.e. Safari, it asks for the password again and again.

No Solution!!. I do like my iPhone but this is a MUST HAVE. Next time i'll think twice regarding buying me an iPhone.

Happy New Year everyone!

I have an iPhone 2G that's been retired (upgraded my son to a 3GS), so essentially it's now an iPod Touch.

It will stay on wifi for as long as it's awake, but if it goes to sleep there's only a small chance (say about 1 in 3) that it will reconnect to our wifi router (an older Dell model). When it works it works great and it stays connected.

When it comes back on after sleep the wifi indicator can show full bars but it just won't talk. Only disabling wifi and re-enabling it will return it to working on wifi. Very annoying, and not at all the "it just works" image that Apple would like us all to believe.

Totally bummed - spent a good three/four hours painstakingly downloading various versions of iTunes and upgrading my iPod Touch to the most recent version, only to discover that it's disabled my Wi-Fi completely and won't even let me onto the option to select a Wi-Fi connection. Pretty lame, actually, and really disappointing.

I have an iPhone 3G running the current software.3.1.2. NOW I'm dropping WiFi. It's worked since I got it. I had a Trendnet N router that I switched out for a D-Link Extreme. Both of those worked fine. But, the D-Link went crazy on its own. I returned it and Got a NetGear 3700. NOW I drop Wifi. It stays connected maybe a minute, then poof. Banging head against wall. Why did I switch routers! Argh.

I have iPhone 3GS, and have noticed this week the WiFi dropouts. I have a Netgear router and run two laptops off it without any issue. I thought it was me, but glad to see it's not! The on/off from Airport mode suggested by Caballera seems to work and is a quick fix.

I have recently bought an iPod Touch 8GB and promptly upgraded it to update 3.1.2, everything was working fine until the 15th of December when the iPods WiFi stopped working. At first i thought my routers WiFi must have been down, however i tested the connection on my laptop and it worked perfectly well.
I must say i am a little disappointed with Apple as they are usually known for good quality and reliability and, as this is my first Apple product in about four years, i was expecting it to last me quite a few years, now i wish i had just bought a Sony Walkman.

Mine at 1st worked great and I would see my usual 6m speed tests, but since dec 5th 09, none of the speed tests will break 1.6m while 2 other laptops would see 6m with ease...
I'm using a netopia wireless dsl modem with built in 4 port router...
I have uninstalled the speedtest app and re installed it with no changes. my signal in the home is always full of bars yet only ~1.6m speeds..
I purchased my 32g iPhone 3gs the Sunday after thanksgiving if it means anything

I returned my 3G Iphone to the Exeter UK store yesterday (a three hour journey for me) after speaking to their technical engineers and going through all the proceedures that others
on this blog have been encouraged to do. I explained the problems with wifi dropouts and the apparent "deafness" of the wifi receiver after upgrading to firmware issue 3.1.2.
To their credit the store replaced the handset without argument despite the fact that it was 88 days out of warranty. They didnt admit there was an issue but they were clearly aware that there was and it helped having a print of these blogs!! From my experience one indicator of the type of WIfI problem you may be having is the signal strength received in dBi. The lower the number the stronger the signal. Those with
a strong signal yet still experiencing dropouts may be suffering from a software issue. I suspect my problem was hardware/overheating related in some way conected to firmware 3, as my signal strengths dropped
dramatically (-92dBi) after the upgrade. My replacement handset is working perfectly and as I remember the old one. What a relief!!

iPhone 3G running OS3.1.2 - Linksys wrt54g ver 2
(also happens on other routers)

Signal strength often flucuates, distance from router does not seem to be the issue. Once connection is lost I have to cancel the connection to continue using the device. When signal strength returns enough to reconnect, I am forced to enter the password again. This service loss wouldn't be nearly as aggravating if it would allow me to try the reconnection with the previous password (which it seems to think is incorrect, but I know it isn't). I am so tired of constantly rekeying in my password.

Yesterday I did a restore of my iPhone since I had 500 MB of "other files" and wanted to get rid of it.

Not only that I lost ALL settings of ALL apps, e-mail accounts, IM accounts etc. ...

Now, when I set up my WiFi (fixed IP, WPA), the internet connection works exactly ONE time, that is if I do some internet activity RIGHT AFTER setting WiFi up.

As soon as I leave IM+, Safari or whatever I do, no app gets any internet connection until I define the WiFi connection another time.

That goes on for hours now.

Rebooting didn't help, and a restore is not what I want to experience again.

I noticed that the restore got stock at the point where only the standard app icons were back again, on Windows one of those two processes that always crash when using iTunes (Mobile Device Helper and another) crashed, and the restore process wouldn't complete until I disconnected and reconnected the iPhone.

Before the restore, everything worked just fine.
I'm SOOOO p*ssed off!!

Any idea what the problem is?

Hi .... today I upgraded the firmware of the eugenius gigabit repeater... but still problems in the fluctuation of the signal. It already costed me too much. I even tried to add a special antenna but even more worse results...
My question -- there are so many iphones sold worldwide, and there are so many issues about this problems.
WHEN WILL APPLE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
The G and 3G are realy great, don't want another phone anymore.. Mailing to them will not give you a reply and if they do its'not about the problem.
Ho Ho HO ...... Santa is coming to town (maybe with an special free add-on for the Iphone? Or shall I keep on dreaming.

I have a 2G and a 3Gs side by side and airplane mode except for wireless turned on, and I am unhappy to report that the 3GS stops downloading information and loses connection to the internet while the 2G is lightning fast. Very disappointed....

Had my 3GS 4 days. Initially picked up my home wireless no problem. Still picks up other wireless, have logged on to friends wireless at their homes to use icall, but at my house no. My wife's 3G, no problem, our two laptops, no problem.
I spent hours on the phone with apple yesterday. Came down to disabling my router security, connecting to the wireless with the 3GS (no problem), then resetting the router security and password, and entering the new wifi password in both phones. Problem solved, until I came home from my friends house tonight (his wireless, no problem). I get home and same problem as before. My phone
recognizes our home wireless network, but will not connect unless I disable the WPA2 security, it wont accept the password. After I disable the router security and set a new password for the router, enter it in both phones to reconnect, all is good. I expect my wife's phone will be fine with our home wireless tomorrow, and mine will not. Unacceptable. Apple>Fail or D-Link>Fail. I suspect Apple>Fail.
Sounds like "foil hat brigade" talk, but wi-fi problems eliminate usage of VOIP apps like icall, win-win for Apple and AT&T.
I'm ready to return this piece of Es H Ai Tee Ee and get a droid (other reasons as well, jailbreak is seeming more and more a great idea).
Any feedback/ideas welcome.
My router is a D-Link WBR-1310

I belive the problems we are all having are heat related. Try this then post your results. Place your iphones on cloth covered ice pack to chill, say five minutes. then connect wifi. i believe you will find it will now connect. problem is the firmware upgrade has changed power and internal heat characteristic and causes this drop out. if im right we need a clever soul to tell us how to rectify.

I too am having this issue, starting today. Nothing has changed so can't figure why this suddenly happened. I have a 3G that's about 15 months old, all software is up to date. Network works fine for all our computers except for the 3G today. Now that I think of it, my husband's 3Gs was doing this earlier in the week, again, out of the blue.

So, why doesn't Apple have an answer for this if all of us have have this problem, and it appears to have started for some people in July?

Please help me...I don't know what happened. My iphone 3G just suddenly won't connect to the internet even if it recognizes my home wifi.(It used to work perfectly whever there's wifi) I already brought it to Globe Telecom Center (official Philippine Iphone distributor), and it worked there just fine. I really am so frustrated, had the iphone for a year already, and I don't know if some kind of warranty covers it. I've tried everything there is over the web to solve it, still efforts aren't solving it.

I started having problems after I upgraded to 3.1 or 3.1.2. iPhone 3G kept dropping my home network. All other devices are working fine. iPhone keeps prompting me for my password, then failing to connect.

When I removed the password (Netgear, WPA security), it would continuously connect and drop. I'd get an IP address for a few seconds, then it would disappear.

Bluetooth is working fine, and I can see my MAC address under network settings.

Have only noticed a problem on my home router (sitting right beside it). Will be trying on other public networks soon, but suspect it is the flaky signal strength problem.

Ever since I upgraded to 3.1.2 my iphone 3g will not detect wifi. I've tried resetting the settings on my iphone but nothing will work. It's brand new there shouldn't be any problems with the iphone's hardware.

Also having the same issue with 3g, I have a netgear rangemax router, I'll add this as well, when my phone drops the signal, the signal drops off any laptop that is also connected to the wifi. It's like the iphone is blocking the signals.

I got my iPhone 3Gs three days ago. Wi-Fi shows a constant strong signal, but does not connect to the internet. I use Apple's Airport Extreme base station with several macs working perfectly. All the Wi-Fi is listed and is correct.

Also, Bluetooth works for a while and then suddenly stops. I wasted heaps of time and am not happy.

I just bought a DLink DIR-825 and am running into the periodic "incorrect wifi password" problem. Sometimes it happens repeatedly within a few minutes. Other times will go for several minutes without a problem.

I've tried every available permutation of WPA, WPA2, AES and TKIP on the router. Nothing seems to help.

What has worked for me is to use WEP instead, or no encryption.

I can't tell if this is an Apple problem or DLink problem. I did not have this problem with my old router, a D-Link DI-524.

I have recently had a problem with my iphone, after installing the latest update wifi was removed as an option from my phone. After several attempts at resetting my phone and router I took it back to the shop I bought it from. They couldn't get it to work work so now it's on it's way to Apple land. It had better come back in the same immacculate condition as I sent it in.

My Iphone connection is off and on. One time I am connected, next time webpages would not load or emails would not download until I turn off the wifi and use the 3G connection. I have learnt that when my pages are not loading, it must be iphone cannot connect to my linksys wrvs4400n router. It is an iphone problem decause I have a laptop downstairs which never lost connection at any time. Could it be an encryption problem? Right now I used the wpa personal, may be a lower encryption.
