iPhone 3.1 Beta 2 Breaks AT&T Tethering Hack, Allows Wi-Fi Testing, Intros Augmented Reality APIs?

Following up on last night‘ release of iPhone 3.1 Beta 2 firmware and SDK, developers are finding more changes and new features.
TUAW reports that the AT&T IPCC hack, where the carrier file was modified to allow iPhone tethering sans official AT&T sanction no longer works. Bummer, given AT&T still hasn’t announced anything about legitimate tethering support or pricing.
Engadget Mobile‘s been informed that new APIs have been introduced allowing for the manipulation of live video to produce “augmented reality” apps (where information is layered on top of the video).
Ars Technica reports iPhone 3.1 Beta 2 allows developers to connect to test devices via Wi-Fi, rather than having to tether via USB as in previous releases, and still access instruments and other features.

The statement at Ars Technica says something different! You can use Instruments (developer tool) over WiFi to analyze a running app, but you can NOT send apps to a device via Wi-Fi.
I hope the tethering gets worked out because that is a deal breaker for me.
I’m thinking tethering won’t be an option really once at&t announces 50+ per month for it.
i’m betting that tethering will be more like $20-$25 on top of the iphone data plan.
@Andreas: Thanks, fixed!
It’s frustrating to have tethering working from a technical perspective yet the service not being offered. The fact that it works technically raises some questions with me personally about AT&T.
I’m willing to pay well for tethering, however, I’m not prepared to wait forever.
AT&T is a ripoff waiting for a CDMA verizon iPhone.
Teathering DOES work! It has yet to be resolved. If you go to help.benm.at from your iPhone you can install the teathering profile.
They’re going to have to be very careful about this if they ‘fix’ it.
I’m personally on a data plan who wholesales 3G data plans off another provider, who is also currently negotiating tethering plans. If they lock out these profiles it may effect other (legitimate) users on the same network.
This is not uncommon in Australia and I would imagine elsewhere in the world.
The cat and mouse game continues…
Apple can never really stop us.
EVERYreason why NOT to upgrade to this LAME 3.1. especially if you own a 3G. seems like most of the new feats are designed for the 3GS anyway…
I personally think an addition to the built in camera app should have the ability to choose the size(pixels) of your pic. In the photo app the abilty to make your on folders to sort out the mess that is the camera roll.
Here in Canada, we’re not being charged extra to use Tethering. We use our Data plan, the only limitation is you need to have at least a 1 GB data plan.
I have yet to use tethering even though it is available to me. Maybe if I am ever in an airport, but usually I am just checking something quick and I can do it on my phone.
i dont find it to be that big a deal but that feature would make it that much cooler for a small fee or someone will hack it anyway
Your never going to see a CDMA version of the iPhone for the reason that network is outdated and it’s reallg limited to the U.S most networks are GSM which is used by 95% of the world plus Verizon isn’t installing App store suck as blackberry’s app world or any others due to the fact that verizon made one so that means verizon would want control of the software for the iPhone and do you honeslty think Apple well go for that lol I think Not
