Well to all those little girls on their first beer. At the very least; blackberry is compatible with other devices for bluetooth, multi-media messaging, their browser is now going to be better. Their going to also support the skyfire browser, again better than safari. You can insure the blackberrys; no iphone and why would I pay almost 70 for a warranty? Blackberry supports more diverse formats of media. their processor and ram out do iphones release by a year. So, keep using your iphones, I've heard that the CEO of AT&T is fixing to control your bandwidth on the network. For some reason the iphones (not blackberrys or any other smartphones) are hogging the bandwidth and destorying AT&Ts network. If you've been dropping calls, thank your iphone users.

I don't know if the browser will have the panache of Mobile Safari, but I honestly believe that RIM has to do something about getting people the applications they want. I'm huge on webapps, and with RIM opening up their push API, there's no reason that a browser channel (essentially a type of webapp) could not modify a bit of code so that it could be run and push info to the BlackBerry. iPhone is a great device, but the lack of multiple form factors customization will always be a bottleneck to growth of the device (RIM thanks you for that)

ANYWAYS

Ive gotten to play with leaked builds of 5.0 for the Storm and the browser has made a significant improvement...not iphone caliber (because it lacks multi-touch support & flick scrolling--there is a app for that in the works..)but the rendering is there along with tabs, its just menu based but im sure that will probably end up changing thru further builds if not already.

Also an employee let slip that RIM is working on a Flash solution of its own, not that there isnt one in the works already by others (hi skyfire).

I dont see blackberry going with webkit, they are pretty tight with their security and suspect they would want to stick to their own code. Maybe they should poach some devs from other platforms rather than wasting a year and ending up with another naff browser. I for one will be happy, my work phone is a curve 8900 and the browser is torture

I wonder if this new BB browser will support flash natively? That is one of the very few things I don't like about the iPhone.

You may be right in that people won't switch from an iPhone to a BB, but Rim is selling enough Blackberries that they really only have to prevent people from leaving to an iPhone. Sooooo, STFU.

He has the info of common sense that's just like if me and Tom ran in a marathon and i did 3 miles and Tom only did 2 so far he would have to catch up and in the time it would take him to catch up i wouldn't pause and wait for my competitor i would keep advancing.

My question is are they going to offer browser like the current Safari or are they looking to become best in class? Also, will users need to be on a specific version of their OS for this to happen or will it be backward compatible? My sense is that they are working hard today just to catch up with what's available today. By that time Apple will have had a full year's development time to advance mobile Safari and advocate folks to adopt the standards that they are using. Just catching up to today is simply not enough and RIM over the last 18 months seems quite happy to give customers modest improvements while the market is content to give radical improvements (iPhone OS 3.0, Palm webOS, Android).
