I'm really impressed along with your writing skills as neatly as with the format on your blog. Is that this a paid subject matter or did you modify it yourself? Either way stay up the excellent high quality writing, it is rare to see a nice weblog like this one nowadays..

In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be a lot more useful than ever before.

One guy said that he could make calls and surf the web at the same time on his droid, without wi-fi. Plus, don't you need 3g to voice and data on your iphone 3gs? You also forgot the lightning fast processer the droid has compare to the iphone 3gs. do the droid 2 global vs the iphone 4. Much more accurate

I love how everyone is very biased. No one on here has OWNED both. You can not really make a decision unless you owned both. I honestly have an iPhone but am not on AT&T. I have it unlocked and it's with my local carrier and I love it. That is also a minus with the droid. It is not a gsm phone. Which mean no sim cards on verison. So you can not have it easily unlocked and use it with any carrier.

@Go With The Future:

I wouldn't call Atlanta "BFEgypt". AT&T is bad here. Now of course if you don't have any experience with a good cell provider then you wouldn't notice how bad they are. As far as the LTE network, you may want to revise that statement. Verizons LTE is rolling out this November while AT&T is just starting to plan for theirs. They are predicting one or two cities by March 2011. AT&T is dead last in terms of technology. I am always hearing about how the iPhone killed AT&T. What a bunch of BS. AT&T was the worst BEFORE the iPhone and still is. The iPhone may load down the 3G but AT&T uses EDGE for its voice, or at least that is what I have been told. It is the telephone part of AT&T that sucks. Sorry, but I buy a phone to be just that, a phone first, then for the apps etc.

My contract being up, I decided to try a few phones and even different carriers. I tried the EVO 4G on Sprint, the Droid X and Incredible on Verizon and the iphone 4 on AT&T. Here is what I found.

EVO 4G: A nice phone with some great features. The 4G however is a joke. If you have 4G signal walk a few feet and poof...it is gone. Sprints service was spotty in places it shouldn't be, at least in the greater Atlanta area. Battery life...horrible, as in almost a joke.

Droid X and Incredible: My Droid X that I bought on the first day was a piece o' sh*t. Some serious issues like locking up while it tries to figure out if it is going to be on the network or wi-fi, jittering screens, onscreen buttons not responding to touch (think trying to answer a call and you can't). Battery life better than the EVO but still not all that great. The phone went back.
The Incredible is probably the best Android phone I have tried and my girlfriend still has hers. The battery life is marginal.

iPhone4: Amazing phone with the best and most seamless user interface I have found. The battery life is awesome and can get through a day with pretty heavy use no problem. A really nice feature also is the fact that any accessory you can think of is made for it. The one big problem, and it is a HUGE one, is the carrier. Lets face it, AT&T is just awful. Dropped calls or calls that just garble and their customer service is a joke. Polite foreigners that you can't understand or rude Americans who can't or won't help you. Even the managers in their stores don't know about their own plans/products and pricing. This is a deal breaker for me as I have to be strapped to this company for 2 years. No thanks, it is going back.

I keep seeing people on here saying the iphone isn't a great phone. Wrong. It is the cream of the crop it just happens to be tied to a company who rather spend all of its revenue on advertising than its infrastructure. What a shame. I read on analogy that went like this: The iPhone 4 is like Jessica Alba in a wheelchair. A beautiful cripple.

Of all the phones I have tried the iPhone gets top vote for the actual phone but until it goes onto other carriers, don't waste your time or money. For Android the best I have used so far is the Incredible from HTC.

Regrettably, here in the U.S. we have to choose carrier first, then the phone. In most of Europe you can buy a phone and put it on a multitude of carriers. If that was the case here I would own the iPhone 4 on Verizon. It's a no brainer. The Droids are ok but the are still kind of clunky and have a lot of kinks to work out no matter what OS version of Android they are using (a whole other topic).

Have fun choosing and try to keep in perspective what is bad, the phone or the carrier.

If you have 4G signal walk a few feet and poof…it is gone. Sprints service was spotty in places it shouldn’t be, at least in the greater Atlanta area. Battery life…horrible, as in almost a joke.

Droid X and Incredible: My Droid X that I bought on the first day was a piece o’ sh*t. Some serious issues like locking up while it tries to figure out if it is going to be on the network or wi-fi, jittering screens, onscreen buttons not responding to touch (think trying to answer a call and you can’t).

Polite foreigners that you can’t understand or rude Americans who can’t or won’t help you. Even the managers in their stores don’t know about their own plans/products and pricing. This is a deal breaker for me as I have to be strapped to this company for 2 years. No thanks, it is going back.

I keep seeing people on here saying the iphone isn’t a great phone. Wrong. It is the cream of the crop it just happens to be tied to a company who rather spend all of its revenue on advertising than its infrastructure. What a shame. I read on analogy that went like this: The iPhone 4 is like Jessica Alba in a wheelchair. A beautiful cripple.

Of all the phones I have tried the iPhone gets top vote for the actual phone but until it goes onto other carriers, don’t waste your time or money. For Android the best I have used so far is the Incredible from HTC.

I have verizon and just sent my Droid X back. It was way to big for my hand....I am a female. I went back to my BB Storm. So my question is do I wait to see if Verizon get the iphone or should I get a different Droid phone. I keep reading about how the iPhone has limitations where the Droid more flexible to do what you want with apps.......HELP. It seems like Droid keeps coming out with new phones.

I have an Iphone and I'm happy with it. I'm not about to drop another two bills just for the latest and greatest when I only text and surf the net. I'm pretty basic. I love the fact the Droid introduced competition. Apple is so stingy with it's products and won't open source anything. Google is a hell of a company and they definitely think outside the box. My brother in law has the Droid Incredible and loves it. What struck me first is the camera. It's a real, high quality camera. My IPhone takes good photos and I'm happy but Apple seems to only put in the iPhone what is necessary instead of giving the user everything. I was always curious why Apple would not provide memory cards, USB, etc. with the iPhone and iPad. I like iTunes too but I hate the fact that I can't just load the software on as many computers as I want. I probably lack the skill to do so but my point is that it should be easier. Once again Apple has to control everything. Like I said, competition is good and this is what the free enterprise system is all about. I'm going to sit back and wait because in a year the technology will change and my opinion may change as well. We have all these choices now, competition is good.

The phone really is a matter of personal choice, each has features that apply to various individuals. The real issue is the network. Verizon is on an older CDMA network which is about 3 years behind AT&T's LTE (Long Term Evolution). Verizon max is 3mbps while AT&T's can be upwards to 100-300 mbps. Sure the CDMA coverage is still better, but thats only a problem if your in BFE. So with new, advanced technology just around the corner, I think i'd prefer to be on the LTE network versus CDMA.

I think going with AT&T was pretty dumb of Apple, but then again, AT&T must have paid very dearly for the contract. If Apple went with Verizon it would destroy all the competition. Plus Verizon has the great minds behind the Droid so the resulting combined technology would make my mouth water.

P.S. I love Apple but I still think the Droid is a great phone.

I think the arguments a kind of pointless. I am a diehard Apple fan and will probably never get a Droid, If you like the Droid it's probably vice-versa. You should get the phone you like more and not try to convince everyone else to get it. My friend loves the Droid and I've decided that arguing isn't worth it. Get whatever floats your boat.

I have had a Motorola Droid since Christmas time. I will never use Verizon OR the Droid again. Here is why:

Number One Reason: Conveniently outside of the 30 day return window, the slider on my Droid started to loosen up. The crazy thing is I don’t even use the keyboard, so I rarely if ever move the slider! At first it was a small bother, but over time the thing kept getting worse to the point the slider would move with simple gravity. I took the phone to two different stores and the sales reps both told me the same thing,
“Oh yeah that is just normal”.
“Really? How come the store models don’t do that?”
“Well they are new, but they are supposed to loosen up”
It may seem somewhat minute, but the thing moving all over when I am trying to type, surf, or talk, drives me nuts.
Anyway, I gave up for a while. Then the other day, I did something stupid: I dropped the phone in the toilet. Phone is fried. I have always taken good care of it and NEVER dropped it before. I call Verizon and let them know I have the insurance but have always been unhappy with the phone anyway. I looked at the new DroidX, which has no slider, and thought I could get some sort of deal on a new one. Nope. 30 minutes of polite discussion with 2 supervisors and nothing. I am stuck with a new Droid, which others on this very website have said that it will loosen up as well. I am appalled that a new version of the Droid is out only 6 months later, which by its very own existence affirms the slider had issues, and Verizon will do nothing.

Other Reasons:
• Droid Cons
o Over time, my Droid has slowed down,
o It turns on and off over and over by itself at times, and
o The sound quality has degraded.
o I have had a bunch of app conflicts,
o Had a serious issue with GPS that did not work for almost a month
o The answer to the ability to use two fingers to expand, the Dolphin Browser, is still just a cheap knockoff of what Iphone did right from the beginning and is buggy at best.

• Iphone Pros (I have gained personal knowledge of from my own use of the Iphone)
o Same age or older Iphones are faster than my Droid
o It has apps I have STILL been waiting on for the Droid.
o It seems to take better pictures with less Megapixels,
o Oh and here is the big one: It costs LESS! That’s right, service costs less than mine. Insurance is just an $80 up front fee. No $7.99/mo and then $90 deductible for a new phone.
o You can go to a store and get a new one, not wait 4-5 days (no weekend delivery) for one to be shipped and then you have to figure out the setup yourself.

So Verizon, I don’t expect to bring you down, but it is going to cost a lot more than the $369 discount you could have given me. Well actually, seeing as Motorola sells the phones for $150 (hearsay), you are not really paying anything to help make it right. Instead, I will be posting messages like this on ANY forum that could possibly sway a customer from joining Verizon. And if you think my keyboard is loud, you should hear my mouth. And all you had to do was continue to profit and sell me a 2 year contract and a $200 Droid X. Nuts.

Thanks Brad, your last post was close to what i wanted to know. Bought an Iphone4 two weeks ago and do not like it. All the comparisons I have found are tec specs, what I want to know is user specs. Apples bluetooth sucks as does their ringtones. The speaker is crappy, so you can watch a youtube video but you better be able to read lips. A cool feature on the Iphone is "white on black" text. Really easy on the eyes except it converts the whole phone to a negative image, pics and graphics included. WTF.. Don't forget the address book, hook it up to Itunes without turn off Sync and whoosh all your contacts are deleted. Who in their right mind would ever do that, good job Steve. Copied all my photos over and they are in a camera roll. Great, no way to organize with folders. No ringer icon, flipped it to silent the other day and didn't notice it till hours later. Ringtones are at best juvenile, for text's one is ok but I cant hear it. Sorry but at 50 yrs old crickets , frogs, bicycle horns etc., give me a break.
So what i'd like to hear from a "Droider" can you control this stuff? thanks

I have a droid and my wife has am iphone. I went from a blackberry to the droid two weeks ago and I hated it for the first week. I waited til my wife got her iphone to check it out. I am on my third week and I really like the droid. It took a while but it gets easier and easier to use. I didn't like the iphone nearly as much. It does look sleeker but it is also easy to slip out of your hands while working out or exercising. I guess if you like the hype and you are used to touch screens the i phone might suit you better but given an honest reveiw of both, the droid is a much better phone to me.

I am a techie guy, and for me Apple just puts too many restrictions on the phone for it to work everywhere I need. I use my phone to control my media center, instant message, remote desktop (in emergencies), to make and receive free VOIP calls (no network required) and to tether my laptop to my PC. I'm forgetting dozens of things, but I can do them all at the same time, all while on a call (it's a complete myth that you can't get wireless internet while on a call. I do this every day).

In addition, I can drag and drop music from my computer right onto the phone, which very kindly adds it to my library. It even automatically differentiates between audiobooks and music, opening them in the proper media player. I wouldn't use a music store even if they had one, unless I could own the music.

I'm not suggesting that every droid user out there would be able to get all of the stuff to work that I have, but all android phones have the potential. When I first got the droid, the native browser didn't have 'pinch and zoom'. Available on the android market was a browser called Dolphin, which had this feature enabled. Within no time (a couple of months) google had released a new OS that activates pinch and zoom within the native maps and browser applications, and off came Dolphin (which does have its merits, I'll admit). Also included in the update was support for true natural voice recognition right in the software keyboard! I can speak entire sentences, including punctuation, and use the text for my next instant message or email. Talk about real hands free! It's unimaginably good. You'll have to try it to believe it.

I see the Droid as the batman-style do-all phone. It's 100% speed and flexibility. Personally, I think it has a lot of class, but it's certainly no iphone. It's corners are not sleek, and it's case doesn't feel like a futuristic meta-material, and it doesn't have the Apple 'brand', all of which I know people find desirable.

Bottom line, if your phone is to be an accessory, like your cloths, designed to match, or a Lexus, designed to raise your social status, then the iPhone is the way to go. However, if you want your phone to do everything imaginable with the hardware installed, go with the Droid. Keep in mind that you will need some decent technical understanding to get everything out of a Droid. Complexity comes with ultimate flexibility.

Personally I think it would be a shame for the iphone to go the way of the droid. There is a huge market for 'Lexus' style phones that are super simple to operate. There is another market for computer ninjas who need to be able to control their server farm from their phone all while talking to the support staff in India. Heck, just buy both if you can afford it!

Keep strong Android AND iPhone!

I make a lot of money so I have both. I could care less about which one is better than the other. Having BOTH...the iphone 3gs camera takes much better pics. The droid is marginally faster overall. So who cares. Cant wait for the iphone 4 and droid 2 cause im gonna upgrade both. LOL!!!

All my friends have iPhones. I have been wanting a smart phone for a long time but have been a long time customer of Verizons. So I have been waiting.. and waiting. Now I finally pulled the trigger and bought the HTC Incredible Droid. Now I go to dinners, meetings, events and gatherings and all my iPhone friends stand over my shoulder and drool. I always like the iPhone, playing with one any chance I got. But this HTC Droid is truly incredible. Any old complaints of the Droids is now gone. If you don't believe me, try one! If a friend has one , ask to play with it for a bit. Or go to a Verizon store and mess with one. You will soon see.
Maybe iPhone will make a leap frog over Droid, but it will need to be a huge jump to even catch up now. And now AT&T just announced a cap on their bandwidth! WOW! What a huge mistake, but not that they had much of a choice with all their network problems.
Google/Verizon/HTC have combined efforts and made an awesome smart phone with great support and network. Google navigator alone would probably convince me if I was still debating. Apple made a mistake and stuck with AT&T. Now what? Even if they catch up with hardware what are they going to do with network? 4G? What good is that really going to do you if you can't get a signal or you are limited on bandwidth?
I am not dishing on iPhones, they are or were great. But someone has passed them, and passed them in a furry!

I have a droid.. I've been with verizon for 10 years so it was an obvious choice.. But i'm also a FIRM believer in open source. I would never support iphone or apple because of it's constricting OS. I had my friend talking up the iphone, and also trying to explain the complicated and technically unethical practice of the ijack. He wasn't too happy when i showed him a fully customized droid with a smooth UI that is just as usable as the iphone. Google sky map is just awesome and it always impresses people and infuriates iphone users. Google will only make more and more software. Apple will struggle to keep up and WILL fail. Google is just too big now, they've got their fingers in everything.

iPhone, Droid vs. Save your time!

Thanks for the article!
My only question is: Can I call and receive phone calls with both of them? Yes? Then I’m going just to stick to my $ 9.99 T-Mobile Phone.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the great article. I really want an iphone when the next one comes out but heard how awful at&t is, so I was considering the droid. After reading the article I see that the iphone fits my needs better. Thanks for pointing out which customers fit with which phone.

@ #2, the "non-retard"

I think you're contradicting yourself. If you've had an iPhone break after 1 1/2 years you must be a retard. I've got the original and iPhone 3G S, and I've not had them "break". You must be dropping it in a toilet at a high velocity or jailbreaking it. Plus if you were smart and had AppleCare, it wouldn't have been a big deal and they would have sent you a brand new replacement phone to your door for free.

I think the Android is better than the Iphone. First of all the lag on the iphone is horrible. My family all have iphones (6 people in my family has them) because they think it's the most superior phone out there YET they complain how laggy it gets and how their batteries run out fast. I have a droid and lend it to my cousin.. he wouldn't even give it to me after playing with it for hours.. ~_~; he found it especially cool that I have free navigation on my phone. I still don't get why people stick to the Iphone.. I left At&t because they charge so much with their crappy coverage.

This was a wonderful blog on comparison for both the iPhone and Droid. As a current Droid user and previous iPhone user, I find the Droid to be far more innovative than the iPhone. AT&T's network makes the iPhone run slow and you can't get 3G coverage everywhere! There may be more apps for the iPhone but the majority of my apps on my iPhone cost to some degree (if you wanted to have more than a trial period on your phone). The Droid has less but it definitely gives more free applications! The Droid also runs at a higher data speed why? It's network is the largest and the best by far (next to Sprint's 4G network that they don't own)!

The iPhone is overrated and most of the people who own/use them are snobbish and refuse to even consider that something may be better than their precious iPhones. That being said, the iPhone is a great phone, and the environment you buy with it is excellent, but the simple fact is that the Droid and it's Android OS is the future of smart phones. However, the iPhone will rival it, but only until Apple cracks and fully releases iTunes for Android.

I have both... iPhone is remarkably faster and a better touch screen (by a hair). Better media player and touch screen keyboard is nice with auto-correction. The Interface is great with thousands of apps to chose from. Most people I know like the iPhone more and most have them. However, droid is a great operating system with an all around nice phone.
All in all, I recommend the iPhone

I would like to put my input in here- First off I travel around the U.S for my job, I’m always on the move never at home. I have had both devices so I want to make a review. The Droid does some things better and the iPhone does some things better, of course right?

Apps: iPhone, the apple store has so many fun apps to keep you entertained while on long flights, the Droid the market is lousy honestly and mostly the apps are quite expensive for what they are. Although, i do like the skins you can buy for the Droid.

Touch screen: The screen on the iPhone is the best I’ve ever had honestly; it’s extremely accurate and never lags or anything. The Droid on the other hand the screen was inaccurate and would freeze all the time. It got really annoying after about 2-3 times a day. The iPhone’s screen is about perfect.

Camera: The Droid has a really good camera, it is 5MP which is more then the iPhone but its hard to get a really good shot with it, the iPhone on the other hand i get good pictures every time. I do like the Droid video camera better though and the camera is close but I give it to the iPhone.

Battery: This for me is an important one, as I can’t just go plug in my phone during a 3 hour meeting. Ill start with the Droid, it’s got a really solid battery life on it, I’m not biased towards either phone but the iPhone battery for me lasts longer, i had to keep 2 battery's on me for the droid.

Texting: This is an interesting one because the Droid has a keyboard and the iPhone doesn't. Personally i do like the Droid keyboard some say its flat but mine is really responsive and I can text faster, and more accurate on it then the iPhone.

Overall: It’s a tough one honestly, I like some things about bother devices but I would have to say I like the iPhone better, I’m not jumping on the band-wagon but I seriously wanted to like the Droid and it would keep freezing, the touch screen is inaccurate but I did like the keyboard, but for me I just like the iPhone, the apps, and of course the IPod built in. The iPhone is overall for entertaining if you are on a plane and have nothing to do for 3-5 hours. The Droid is a solid device if you have Verizon and want a decent phone. If you have any questions or concerns I would love to hear them. Email me at richards_bradly@yahoo.com

Camera: The Droid has a really good camera, it is 5MP which is more then the iPhone but its hard to get a really good shot with it, the iPhone on the other hand i get good pictures every time.

i bought the droid shortly after it came out just because everyone jacks over the iphone and all the other icrap. im not saying its not good by any means, however i just appreciate someone else comming out with another device that can rival the iphone. all its going to do is force the phone companies to speed up their ideas for making new and better phones which we can all benefit.

I'm happy I found this comparison. When I saw it's an iPhone blog, my first thought was "OMG, an Apple Fan analysis, it will be biased" and thankfully I decided to give a quick look, proving myself wrong. This is a great comparison. Also, some comments helped me decide which phone to buy. Since in Brazil same carrier sells both, network coverage is the same for both, so I'm worried just about specifications and overall experience.

hmmm wll i own the iPhone 3GS its cool and everything but then i went to best buy and started messing with the droid.
the thing that I noticed the most is that the droid is not as fast as the iphone. But the droid is an awesome phone because of its fatures that let it fit you. any way hopefully these features will come with the 4.0 update that is coming in the summer.

Have Not seen any one mention to COST of operating either phone..
I live in Canada and have a unlimited dataplan on a CDMA network.
When I switch to the new 3G network i can not get unlimited data. So receiveing 150 + emails with PDF, Word Docs, and when searching the WEB that has flash on it will cost me big time... The iPhone has auto switch to WiFi if it sees it so that is a good thing as I will not be using up data as fast. The Motorola Milestone ( Drode in Canada ) does not auto switch.

Alright. I have the DROID and I am really impressed. I have many buddies that have the iPhone and I think the DROID beats it in many areas. For all you that complain about the iTunes effect, with droid you can download a music app that allows you to get free music so the heck with iTunes. Droid offers you a much better camera along with a much better design. I like the speed of Verizon's 3G network and the fact that I can get service in many more areas. AT&T is a terrible company for such a great phone that is the iPhone. I also think the DROID's interface is much more responsive and is very friendly to people who need to multi-task. Everybody just favors the iphone because it was released first. That doesn't mean anything at all. I have seen a lot of dumb comments on here, and that is probably because these people have not even used the DROID at all. While both phones are so similar, i think DROID beats the iPhone in many more areas and therefore is the best choice for a smart phone today.

All of this has been quite interesting however it's a shame some here are so obsessed with own opinions that they add nothing to the discussion and those who "tried one once" or "saw one once".

My current phone is the basic Motorola - it makes and receives calls. Period. Last week I was at Best Buy looking to replace my old worn out PDA. The sales rep said they no longer carried them in the store and directed me over to the iPod. After a week I'm sort of hooked on that little sucker. It does everything my old PDA did and more and a big plus is it's ability to synchronize e-mail, contacts, calender and notes with Outlook.

Okay, so now I'm thinking I don't want to carry both a cell phone and an iPod and am seriously considering upgrading my phone to either the iPhone or a Droid. For me each has a big draw back. The iPhone is on the AT&T network which I've had no experience with and after 10 years I don't want to change my phone number. The Droid does not synchronize with Outlook and I dislike the Google e-mail, calender, etc. What to do? What to do?

Yes, I'm thinking of getting both at the same time keeping in mind each has a 30 return policy, to see which I like best.

I was eating noodles at this restaurant and there were 4 people at the table next to me arguing about which was better. Two had droids, and the other two had iphones. They both decided to test the phones by looking up the local bus schedule. One of the people's iphones froze, so one person with a droid looked up how to fix the iphones problem while the other got the bus schedule. The other iphone guy was trying to find how to fix the iphone but his phone was too slow. Just from what I saw, I think the droid would be better for me, because without those droids there, the people with the iphones would have definitely been screwed.

I have both phones too. The iPhone is the better game system while android is the better phone. I can see why android since last month is getting more sells. It is better to call on because of no dropped calls. Aka iPhone would rule if it dropped AT&T and went to someone else. Both are good

As well as the iPhone, the Droid has had some ill-information applied to it. I own a Droid and my roommate owns an iPhone. Both are excellent phones, however the complaint that, "The droid can't web browse and receive phone calls" is absurd. I web browse and talk while on speaker all the time. A pro for the Droid over the iPhone is that the Droid's camera is a 5 mega-pixel camera that takes photos AND videos. If I wanted to take a video with the iPhone, i'd have to download an app and i'd get a really crappy FPS (frames per second for those of you who don't know what that means). The Droid phone is fast (just like the iPhone) but can be over-clocked on its processor to a safe 1.0 ghz. And Apple even trys to insert itself as the media kings, advertising their products for the everyday home user and how easy their products are to use and navigate, so back to my video-camera complaint about the iPhone, how do you expect families with children to record their special moments or celebrations with the legend that is iPhone???! Sure, you could just go out and buy a video camera... But then I guess the iPhone isn't all that great anymore... Because their built in camera sucks. Apple users are seen as huge media fans with their music and movies, but the iPhone speakers and camera hardware are not on the same level as the droid. And in regards to service, if you live in the US, droid is the way to go, if you plan on traveling the world and plan on bragging that your iPhone can get coverage in other countries, well cool beans... but you get to pay a bunch of additional fees to brag about it. So have fun paying that. Comparing the 2 phones in regards to App's, the iPhone has more, but quality over quantity anyday. If you disagree, you're probably a butt-hurt Apple customer seeing as how the Droid is over running the market. The Droid apps are apps that you can actually APPLY to your everyday lifestyle. A side job I do for extra cash is to work ebay for a company, with the Droid, i'm able to take a picture of the item using Google's "goggle" app, and instantly google's search brings up that item and all its spec's, which makes it so easy to list on ebay. Can Apple do that? Oh.... You just have "drinking games" or "ring tone downloaders". Thats pretty useful... I think i'll stick with the Droid for many reasons, and let me recap the main reasons just for clarity.

The Droid is better than the iPhone because:
Better Camera and Video camera quality
Faster over-all web browsing across the US
Apps that you actually can use
Clearer sounding and more powerful built-in speakers

All in all, if you have an iPhone, thats cool I guess, you're just missing out. One day when your screen gets enough wear and tear, you'll be SOL for using your phone, meanwhile the Droid has an accessible physical keyboard in case anything unfortunate happens to the touch screen hardware.

Droid > all others

As well as the iPhone, the Droid has had some ill-information applied to it. I own a Droid and my roommate owns an iPhone. Both are excellent phones, however the complaint that, “The droid can’t web browse and receive phone calls” is absurd. I web browse and talk while on speaker all the time. A pro for the Droid over the iPhone is that the Droid’s camera is a 5 mega-pixel camera that takes photos AND videos. If I wanted to take a video with the iPhone, i’d have to download an app and i’d get a really crappy FPS (frames per second for those of you who don’t know what that means). Sure, you could just go out and buy a video camera… But then I guess the iPhone isn’t all that great anymore… Because their built in camera sucks.

I have heard good things about the droid. I honestly like verizon better than at&t. But instead of looking at the iphone 2g, 3g, 3gs, or even 4g, look at the 32gb ipod touch 3rd generation.I may not have the best price for anything at "www.apple.com", but think of it this way all ipod/iphone models sell at walmart, target, best buy, etc. and they can sell it as low as they want because that is more than $0.00. So I and them make a profit either way. Plus you can buy the app called "Skype" it may not be a phone but you can connect to the internet and text to any other phone for only $15.99 a month for unlimited plan! No camera but still it's great.

Wow, great article. I read it before I looked at what site it was on. I was quite surprised to find I was reading an iPhone blog. I have to confess that I may have skipped the article if I had noticed beforehand, assuming it would have fanboy bias. No offense guys--I would have done the same on a Droid blog. I have a lot of respect for the iPhone and the many amazing apps that are out there for it. But as I'm pretty much stuck with Verizon and I'm rather Google geeked out, the Droid is the best choice for me. This article finalized my decision. Thanks for putting it together.

There is a bunch of misinformation about multi-tasking on the iPhone. Many have written that you can't run a 3rd Party app while listing to music or participating in a phone conversation. This simply isn't true. I do it every day! I even email and talk on it at the same time. I listen to music while playing a game, etc....

Its weird how many of the non-Iphones have added a mp3 player functionality and a slick enough UI and call themselves the IPhone killer. I Have owned an Iphone for 3 years now and recently switched to the Droid. Herez why and what i feel:

There is just 1 iPhone killer out there and it is AT&T. I travel all over the US on work and have suffered from dropped calls every where i went. Sometimes the phone wont even ring and the call goes directly to the voice mail. NO IPHONE USER ON AT&T can DENY that. This was the sole reason for me to pick up verizon's droid for 1-YEAR contract . Hoping iphone will be available on some other network next year.

I dont get why people are so obsessed with 3G coverage. Talk about Basic voice coverage first.

NO PHONE CAN EVER BEAT AN IPHONE when it comes to MEDIA. Sure you can put up millions of apps out there. Put in a slick UI to catch up to an iphone. But HERE IS THE KEY WINNER FOR IPHONE. I drive a BMW M3 a $60,000+ car and while i was buying it IPOD/IPHONE COMPATIBILITY was a key feature (Almost a deal breaker... maybe not, but you know wht i mean)-NO DROID compatibility nothing. Anyone who buys a car these days looks for ipod compatibility. NO other phone can ever compare. My TV has ipod compatibility, My Music system has ipod compatibility. My friend's house which has music system built into the walls has ipod compatibility.

No i dont believe any other phone will ever catch up. But if At&T can not handle its customer base..it will kill the iphone. But as an iphone is in a league of its own.

Well - I have had an I-touch for 2 years now - and I do love it. I want an I-phone (as I am used to the I-touch) but have been waiting for Apple to wise up and move to Verizon (the largest network). AT&T has screwed the pooch and wasted their I-phone money on...? They have fallen sadly behind Verizon and will never catch up. Luckily, I have waited long enough. I had a Verizon rep tell me Verizon is getting I-phone "this summer" - though the release date was not available. I will be very happy. I hear the DROID is good - but the I-phone paired with Verizon's network will be unbeatable!!!

Ahh fanboys, and scenekids. I suppose if you fancy being with the current trend, however you shouldn't knock something you haven't tried. learn the 2.1 droid platform, its quite versatile. Bandwagon thrills aside, the iPhone seems a better product, however on the receiving end of many iphone calls, and hearing others tell me about the iPhones. I am not impressed. I was waiting for 2.1 before purchasing a droid, and from waht i've experienced, I might be sold. (By the way, iPhone isn't very original as some claim, alot of their technology for the iPhone was taken from Nokia, sorry kids to burst your bubble. Hey you still have the four iphone duct taped together... what was it called? ipad or something? I have one to, its called a laptop.

I would LOVE an IPHONE!! However, based on past experience with AT&T I will NOT give them my hard earned money no matter how much I lost after that phone! I have used both phones on trial bases and I actually like the Droid better! Great comparison article. Thanks

Nevermind, I decided to go with the I-phone. My brother got the droid and he said it's the worst and most pointless phone. Yeah it has tonz of cool stuff. But they focused too much on the features and not enough on actually BEING a phone. The I-phone is way more mobil, and plus have tonz of great apps. It's an all purpose device, good price, and plus i've always been more of a mac then a PC.

I am looking into either the droid or i-phon 3gs. This article was very helpful, but my question still hasn't been clearly and directly answered: Which phone is better for the Verizon Network? I-phone? Or Droid?
Thanks!

instead of bashing on the droid maybe all the iphone lovers should try out the droid. I have had a bad experience with AT&T and I have never had a problem with verizon. Everybody and their mama has the iphone.

There are no competition.
If you will decide someday that the iPhone is boring you (and believe me, you will) you can't do anything about that.
If the Android will get boring someday - it's not a big deal - you can actually change OS, surfing style, and allot more!
Also, you got flash support with theoretically make your app list almost endless.

Renee: I thought you did a gr8 job of rationally describing the advantages and disadvantages of each. I don't care for the flame war, but as BeeRad has already mentioned, what did we expect? I'm a big Apple fan, but I'm not a fanboy by any means... I still have my iPhone 1st gen (needs to be replaced soon b/c of ME, not b/c the phone is a problem) When I replace that phone, it's possible I will buy another iPhone, but it's not a given. Whatever the best TOOL is for ME will be its replacement. Just my opinion on two things (only applies in U.S.):
 1) AT&T made a bad choice on w8ing 4ever 2 do its 4G...right now, AT&T thinks: our network is so fast, we don't NEED 4G...when everyone else has 4G and starts 2 run laps around 3G phones, AT&T will weep. (and Apple will weep for having attached their wagon to that star)
 2) Verizon's "3G" network that is everywhere might as well not even exist, as far as I'm concerned. The only reason I'm interested in 3G (or 4G now) is SOLELY 4 the purpose of talking on the phone and surfing the web/checking email/etc at the same time wo/ having 2 buy 2 phones. So, for me, Verizon's "3G" map is completely blanks and their network doesn't even exist. Obviously, for different people, with different priorities, the Verizon "3G" network is probably gr8...for me, it's completely stupid and a waste of hardware to broadcast it.

Hmmm...I have never been a fan of the Iphone or ATT. I won't down the iphone though it is indeed a nice phone. I invested in the Droid. I love Verizon and I love my Droid. I am a phone fanatic and I have had so many smart phones from HTC to Palm to BB to motorola and my sister has the Iphone. Like someone previously said the fact that Apple is all that you can use with the Iphone throws me off. You can't get insurance therefore when the phone messes up you are forced to buy another at retail price, it did take FOREVER to get mms, and you cant replace the battery. So when your battery life is completely drained and because it doesn't have insurance and you cant replace the battery you have to purchase another phone? That sux. One thing I do love abt the Iphone 2GD though is the video ringtone that is so cool. Now to my droid...I LOVE IT!..what more can I say? I don't like the fact though that I can't select multiple contacts for a txt message and the alarm isn't loud enough (like my storm was)...hmmm...I don't like the fact that their is only a notification ringtone rather than there being a message tone, email tone etc. I don't have a problem with it's keyboard because I only use the on-screen one and it works great being that I have small fingers anyway. Any way the argument should be on service providers first then on the devices because who cares which phone is better if the service provider is crap? Anyway I think HTC makes the best phones and all of their phones were touch screen before the Iphone came along.

I live in Denver, and AT&T service is very spotty here. In fact, I can't get any AT&T signal at all from my house. But I get four bars from Verizon. For this reason alone, I HAVE to go with the Verizon network.

It's too bad that Apple doesn't make an iPhone for Verizon. But for me, the Droid is the next best thing.

I need a new phone. Right now I'm saving for the iPhone 3GS. My parents use at&t. Both phones are great, but my friends and family love iPhone. So I say iPhone wins. It's the orignal, MP3/smartphone device. Droid is Verizons version, they just copied the iPhone

Both phones are amazing but if you guys wouldn't be so bias the facts are: Droid has better coverage. iPhone has a better layout. iPhone has better apps. Droid has better multi-tasking skills. Droid is able to play more types of music. iPhone can only play iTunes compatible music. For most people that is the only format they have. But if Droid can play most every other format which is really convinient if you have a lot of mix cds. i have an iPhone but would really like to have the Droid.

I like them both. I leaned towards the Droid because of the physical keyboard. I send so many emails for work and never really adjusted to the iPhones virtual keyboard and I have fat fingers.

forgot to add that on droid apparently any time i'm composing or reading an email and get a phone call, i'm apparently knocked off if i take the call (or even if i don't??)

so what happens to the email i just spent 20 minutes composing? c'mon.

droid gives you a physical keyboard, but it sucks.

droids music player sucks compared to iphone, but iphone's ATT coverage sucks for the primary purpose of the phone, namely making calls.

just don't buy anything and wait for better products, i guess.
