Google Introduces Favorite Places for iPhone
Google's "Favorite Places on Google" is a new program that really refines the term "window shopping". Google has sent out 100,000 window decals to various stores and restaurants that the business will place on their door or window. Once the decal is in place, an iPhone user can use the app QuickMark [Free for the first 40,000 downloads - iTunes Link] to snap a picture of the decal and then you will find reviews, coupons if the business are offering them or you can even star a business so you can remember it in the future. Google also claims that in the near future you will be able to review places directly on your iPhone as well.
Currently you can find these decals in over 9,000 towns and cities all over the U.S. and if you are curious to check out what is in your city be sure to visit the site, Favorite Places on Google.
If any of you see these decals around your town, be sure to let us know how well it works for you!

Google Maps doesn't even work right here in Ireland, which is strange seeing as Google European HQ is here. So not too excited by this news.
This is pretty nifty. The QuickMark app is good but could use some improvement. I like how you don't even have to take the picture just hold your phone up and the app will recognize.
i just got this app and used it on the video. The QR code in the video, that was mailed, says it is "Sweetgreen" in Washington DC, not "Kasa" in SF. The 2nd QR code on the door says it is "Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center" in Tarrytown, NY. Ha ha, continuity errors.
I guess it works...
When I see the first one live on a door...I'll get the app. I have a feeling it's gonna be awhile!
Okay correct me if I'm wrong. If I wanted to go to a restaurant and wanted to know if it was good, I have to first go there in person and then take the picture to find out? If the place has bad reviews and I decide I don't want to eat there, I'd be wasting more gas to find somewhere else to eat. Do any of you get what I'm trying to say? And whats the difference between this app and the dozens of websites with reviews of even more restaurants? I guess it's good for when people are walking around town finding somewhere to eat, but that's the only way I see this useful.
Quoted from QuickMark's official tweet: Number of DL's are higher than anticipated, promo will not last long at this rate
ive downloaded it whilst its free, in the hope that they'll extend this to europe
never pass up on a free app
@Ben I use to never pass up a free app too until a developer had a bunch of games for free, about a month ago, they were all crap, lol, first time I turned down free apps that were going to cost money down the road
Thank god I live in san Francisco where it's such a hightech Driven city,it's a walking city and even in the promo video where they filmed it is a few blocks away from where I love this city..
