Foxconn Received Order for 4th Generation iPhone?

Foxconn sounds like it's once again on tap by Apple to manufacture the iPhone -- the 4th generation iPhone this time around. At least, Eldar Murtazin, EiC of Mobile Review posted that up on Twitter:
"Foxconn received order for next generation iphone"
Engadget's inclined to believe it, and it absolutely meshes with previous years, and with Phil Schiller's June product cycle for the iPhone.

First....
I guess that means that we're about to enter into iPhone Speculation Season. Let the games begin.
I'm hoping 4 a bigger screen, 4.3 inch, higher resolution,front facing camera, also 5 mega pixel camera.
Apple make me sick, constantly bringig out products, why can't they bring the best product out, wait till something catches up and then release the new one?
Makes me mad too. Just when I thought I had the best version of the iPhone. Another is probably gonna come out next summer and I'll have to dish out another $400 cuz AT&T won't do special upgrade pricing anymore.
@marksy
because technology sells and is ever changing. That's like telling Toyota to make one car and lay off for a bit. Or even a video game. Do you think the Grand Theft Auto, Call of duty crowd cares that there is a new one every year?
I don't understand why people thinks there's just gonna be one iPhone. I do agree that Apple dropped the ball with the first gen for not having MMS, very basic tech and tethering should have been instituted not long after and should be free!
All consumer electronics are forever changing, there will always be a new iPhone, there will always be new tv's and so on. It's just the way it is...
O I hope the disigns good
Agreed I dont get what people are bitching about. You want the phone to be better but dont want a new one to come out? Do you keep one PC your whole life? Heck no its an antique in 1-2 years. Technology improves and products get updated. Better that then have just ONE phone and nothing new come out
I just simply can't afford to buy every iPhone iteration, but I certainly am not going to stop wanting the development of new ones! My general approach is to buy every other iPhone version. I have iPhone 3G and so held off buying 3GS. Do I miss the video feature? Hell yes, but that sacrifice means I will be getting 4th Gen iPhone which will be even better!
Is this the iPhone that the Chinese worker was killed over because he lost the prototype?
@Simon you can do video with the new uStream app that came out this week! I have a 3G too and I also held off upgrading to 3GS!
I get a new iPhone everytime it comes out, Jailbreakers will buy your phone for the same price as a new one if it's in good shape. It's not like you have to spend a bunch of money for the new one it should come out close to even. Now if your not with AT&T that may be more expensive, because you have to pay a premium price to get the new iPhone. But with non upgrades through AT&T should be around $400 and sell your old one for 350 to 400, if it's the last version and in good shape.
Probably the last exclusive one for AT&T with minor upgrades. Come June/July, they should say bye bye.
Yeah, maybe it's best to wait for the version built for a 4G network. If it's just minor upgrades like speed and capacity, I'd just skip it.
OK. Let the guessing begin. And in June, Apple will release another lame phone. I hope I am wrong, but after seeing the 3GS (my wife has one; I have a 3G), it does not bode well for anything great. This one better be out the park, or this once great phone will be left in the dust. The competion is catching up in a hurry, and adding a compass and calling it a NEW phone is not going to work anymore. MUCH better battery (even if it makes the phone larger), MUCH better screen, MUCH better camera, etc. This was all said before the 3GS came out, and here we are, rolling on half a year later, AND WE ARE STILL WRITING THESE COMMENTS ASKING FOR THEM!!!!! It's one of two things: Either Apple dose not care (and why should they?? How many 3GS phones did they sell??) or, due to the constraints of the phones design (you know, small at all cost), they can't. I'm guessing it is the latter. I liked the original iPhone shape better. This one is OK, but is painfully apparent the we need more room. It is time for a clean sheet design. What was once cool is now very dated. The WOW factor has been lost. What needs to come out is a that makes the same leap as iPhone 1 to iPhone 3GS in terms of upgrade. Or, else!!!
@Big Pimpin: "Or else!!!" You're a tool, get a life.
I wonder if anyone is gonna die over at Foxconn again over the iphone.
Maybe if they do they'll offer his family a free mac as well?
I'm excited to see a new iphone coming up, but I really hope its a substantial upgrade. A higher res screen is a must if apple wants to stay in the game. The HTC HD2 is an amazing phone and the Iphone needs to step up. as for bigger screen size, I'm not so sure, but higher res for sure is necessary. Maybe a 5MP camera with 720p recording. Front facing camera would have alot of uses besides video calling (think fun photo editing apps). I've heard alot about a dual core mobile processor, that would certainly spice things up. Also widgets and more customization (have developers release widgets just like apps on the app store). This would destroy other phone OS's.
@vernon: I got your tool...be careful, sounds like you might spill your koolaid. Bet you are one of those BOYS that runs out and buys the latest Apple product(and puts the sticker where people can see it. You know, so you can impress them) no matter how lame that product is. Jobs has wet dreams about people like you. "I don't have to change much. Lets see. I'll add a compass. And make it so Vernon can talk to it (since he probably has no friends), and call it NEW". And guess what?? Vernon will buy it. The REST of us with IQ's above room temp and DON'T still live with our parents, are demanding THAT Apple hold up their end of this: Deliver the best phone out there. They started this. They need to keep being the leader. No matter what Vernon says.
@Big Pimpin: That was a whole lot of verbal diarrhea, oh, you're grammar sucks too, you sure your IQ is above room temp?
I hope this new "generation" of iPhone is really the next generation, not the same thing with a few tweaks. Can you really call the iPhone 3GS the third generation of iPhone? It's more like iPhone 3G 2.1, some minor differences, nothing major.
I would like to see Apple take some hints from other smartphone developers, like a removable battery. Look at how thin the Droid (yeah I know I reference that a lot, but it's what I have, but no means am I biased) is, it has a removable battery and it's only .06mm thicker and it has a slide out keyboard. Maybe some removable memory too, I'm a memory hog, I'm not opposed to the built in memory that the iPhones come with, maybe they can add on like an expansion slot for microSD cards. Maybe a physical keyboard too, I type fast and my typing sucks on virtual keyboards.
Smartphone developers have taken hints from Apple to bring their phones up to speed with the iPhone, I think it's time for Apple to take some hints from their competitors. In fact I don't think they should even make one for next year, they should hold off until 4G rolls out and make a spectacular iPhone for that and blow everyone out of the water.
Ha ha big pimpin just nailed your ass vernon
@Dan, ***?
"Hi...I'd like to place a delivery order. 1 million iPhones. The name is Steve."
"We only deliver east or west hemisphere. Your number?"
"1-800-MY-APPLE"
"OK...be ready 10 months"
Hey TK. Sorry, but there will definitely not be a keyboard, removable battery, memory card or expansion slot. That's what makes it an iPhone.
I have to agree with Big Pimpin. It's time to hit another homerun. I have bought all three phones. This time around however, I will not be upgrading if the bump is like it was from 3g to 3gs.
For the person who said slide out keyboard and separate memory slot, no thanks. 32gigs is a lot and if nothing else the next Iphone will probably be 64.
I like the idea of selling themes and widgets on the app store. I agree, it will give competitors a world of hurt.
I believe he meant a s s lol
I love it when people try to insult someone's lack of grammatical prowness and make horrible errors themselves. Open mouth, insert foot, or whatever the virtual equivalent would be!
@Spanky How does your foot taste you dolt? Tell me, what does prowness mean?
He gotcha Spanky!! Lol
@Spanky I did a double-take on Vernon's "oh, you’re grammar sucks too", I was trying to figure out if he was being ironic or if it was a genuine typo.
I agree with most people that it seemed hardly worthwhile to upgrade from 3g to 3gs, the 's' supposedly stands for 'speed' although we can replace it with other words like sh!t, slight, superficial, small, same etc.
Given that most iPhone contracts are for two years, I don't expect yearly major upgrades but I think we are due some real 'BOOM' moments next June. I will await my OS upgrade and decide whether I need the new hardware or not.
We can speculate all we want and make feature wishlists, but if Apple has placed the order then the specs must be pretty firm.
@Kaiks, obviously being iconic
I've had the first generation, the 3G and now the 3GS. I love Apple products, and have been using them for years, but there needs to be some changes. I know there won't be a physical keyboard, or expandable memory but Apple needs to put in a better camera, possibly front facing so you can have a video conference? Also, they definitely need a new look. After the 3G and 3Gs being identical to each other, and the first generation not being too far off, they should mix it up a little bit. Maybe a little bigger screen with better resolution.. Just my thoughts
The phone needs a major dose of WOW this time. And it seems, from reading about the problems with past demo's, it is the battery. Go back and see how many things were shot dowm because it drained the battery too fast. I give Apple props for being concerned, but it seems to me that they know where to start with #4. The next one will need to be on it's game from the start also. The "other guys" are not quite there yet. But, boy are getting closer.
I don't care I'll buy it I love to shop at the apple store!!!!!
@at.t, well call of duty mw2 was in the making for a good few years, Apple should wait until they think it's the time to realease the bigger better product
@marksy cmon man, you cant be serious. Its more than logical to bring out one every year.
I think Apple designs a phone based on two year contracts. That means original iPhone owners when their contract finally expires they got a major difference with the 3GS, and now that the contract expires for 3G users they should make a phone that's a huge upgrade from the 3G. Just my opinion.
If you don't like the iPhone then don't buy it. Quit complaining and go buy one of those piece of sh*t droids and shut up already! Thanks and have a great day!
@Carl: the ustream recorder works only on the 3gS.
@Wuppy
I have ustream recorder on 3g and it works fine, I did a low light test and quality was reasonable. Only problem with the App is you have to upload to ustream, facebook, YouTube or Twitter. I didn't see any way of getting the file onto your computer as it is cloud based, you can store the video in the App though.
Rumor Follow-up 4G iPhone to have MULTITASKING!! http://twitter.com/eldarmurtazin/status/6529404767
I have yet to hear a significant wishlist for the Droid. Even the most diehard fans of the iPhone and Apple have a laundry list a mile long for the next generation iPhone. That says something doesn't it? It's time for Apple to take that Cupertino potential and WOW us again.
At this point, I think Apple is fighting to keep the customer base they have, not just increase it. The stakes are much higher than ever and the competition is stiff. The iPhone could follow the same path as the Razr or truly innovate to stick around.
My hope: Jobs and company spend a good deal on FOCUS GROUPS. The one flaw in design that has been most glaring from the beginning (IMO) is the assumption that they know what we want MORE than we do. Foolishness like that gave us a compass before MMS.
foxconn = murderers
@big pimpen. OMG ur a moron. I've never on this form had someone I disliked at much as u.
@"KILLER". Considering you don't even know me, that statement says a lot about who you are. And since that is all you said, it also makes you an idiot. What was wrong?? Did I use too many big words for you?? Just have mommy explain anything you didn't get. And, if you want to complain, at least spell the person's name correct. It is Big PimpIn. I am so glad you find me so interesting. I personally have not read any of your posts, so we cannot judge your prose as of yet. What's the matter?? Scared?? Just like to jump in and take a shot at someone without actually getting in yourself?? If you have posted, I apologize for over looking it. I am SURE your posts are just packed full of wit, wisdom and masterful insight. Or cr*p. Like that one.
@big pimpin, you are such the troll. The 3GS is more than a compass added, if your wife really has one and you have a 3G you would know that. Could the "4G" need some improvement? Yes, but you make it sound like it is so dated. Apple as sold huge amounts of 3GS's, so maybe the problem is with you, not the iPhone. If the iPhone does not serve you well, buy a Berry, HTC, Droid, or what ever you think will.
-Needs a larger screen atleast 3.7" -Needs OLED screen 800x480 resolution -next gen multi-core ARM processor -Make over on OS looks. -Full Multi-Tasking is a must -Better Battery life. -512MB on board RAM for multi-tasking -32-64GB models -New design in form factor to separate it from other iPhones.
@scottae316....TROLL?? Huh. I see you got a little koolaid on your chin. I bet YOU own all 3 versions of the phone, and sleep with them under your pillow. I did not know this was an Apple flag waving, OMG they do everything SOOOOOOO right blog. I do, for the record, have a 3G, and my wife has a 3GS (white, actually)and I AM NOT IMPRESSED. It is faster (but slower than my Bold). Has a real nice compass (don't think she has used that little piece of "newness" yet). She can tell it what to do. AND THAT'S IT. Apple released it as a NEW phone. It is not. It is slightly tweeked compared to mine. Same screen. Same sad battery. USELESS Bluetooth. My point is quite simple(you should be able to keep up): Apple OWNED this market. I like my phone. I want one I can LOVE. The 3GS is not it, or I would have one. The Bold is close, but too "blackberry" if you know what I mean. I want, no, DEMAND the phone Apple is capable of, and has been promising. No more, No less. Read the posts.....and go back a year. SAME THINGS. I expect waaaay more from Apple.
@Scottae and Vern I'm not sure what part of Pimpin's post dont you understand!!!!Apple keeps releaseing mediocre updates to the iphone instead of KO'ing the competition with one major upgrade package!!!What next,a flash for the camera,then next year a "Zoom" feature WTF?It's getting old!!!The competition has caught up,and now its time to man up and fight to stay #1.
@Gmoney........AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had a droid. Droid doesn't. The most ill conceived pile of garbage I had the misfortune of using. I'm almost convinced all the android fanbois are actually paid lackeys from some Chinese sweatshop cause I can't see anyone in their right mind calling googles attempt at a smartphone smart. I hope verizon chokes on them in returns season along with their $350 cancellation fee. The network might kick ass but their customer service and terms/conditions are stuck in the stone age.
Can't see why anyone whines about the lack of keyboard. I typed faster on the screen keys than the pathetic buttons found on the Droid. And the screen keyboard on the droid was way lamer than the iPhone's. What the iPhone really needs is a spit/polish and a higher resolution screen. You can forget the forward facing camera... U don't need legions of retards hogging up the bandwidth with their inane prattle.
Anyone who complains about the iPhone and then holds up a blackberry or droid as an alternative needs to stop drinking the OTHER brand of koolaid. Three years going and the big players still can't get it right.
