Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Server Not Playing Nicely with iPhone?
Ars Technica puts font to screen explaining how, even after the jump to version 10.6 Snow Leopard (and several updates), Apple’s own Mac OS X Server still fails to integrate push notification and other compatibility for the iPhone:
The iPhone’s e-mail, contact, and calendar features integrate poorly into a Mac OS X Server environment, and even after Snow Leopard Server’s (SLS) release, they continue to lack instant push delivery capabilities for e-mail, contacts, and calendars to an iPhone from a Mac server. Irony of ironies, the iPhone works better in a Microsoft Exchange world than with Apple’s own server.

Mac OS X 10.5 Snow Leopard ?!?! 10.6 is Snow Leopard, 10.5 is only Leopard.

@adam: Nice attempt at teh snark, but overall a failure. OS X Server is a lot more commonly used than you’d think.
@adam 4 companies. Right. I’d rather run a server based off of Unix any day of the week over a Windows server. Thanks for contributing.
And for those who actually care. I’ve tried using Kerio Mailserver to execute this function. It worked pretty well. But it kind of defeats the point of having an Open Directory because everything is based off of email accounts.

This latest version finally takes part in the 64-bit architecture, allowing applications to have more than 4 GiB of RAM (if you possessed them of course), which was used for greedy software mostly. It appears that increased compatibility with social networking services have guided the development of this latest version.
