'Tis the season for last minute, high-profile, pre-holiday App Store approvals it seems, as the long-awaited Qik, now dubbed Qik Live [Free - iTunes link] has finally hit the iPhone!

I've been lucky enough to have an ad-hoc version for a while now, and it's always worked very, very well, so here's to Apple and AT&T loosening the 3G chains and letting iPhone users do what Nokia N95 users have been doing for years now -- broadcast live from their iPhones!

If you try it out, say to live stream the grandkids opening their new iPod touch presents, let us know how it works for you!

I was under the impression, like snapture, qik should have been out of the cydia repos as soon as apple approved qik for app store. Qik is still on cydia? Doesnt apple make devs take down jb apps once they post in app store?

  2. Pablo Seoane says:

Great! Imma try it out right now.

  3. Vanderboon says:

Is it just me or dies this NOT stream live?

  4. Joey says:

@G I'm pretty sure that Apple has no control over the jailbroken apps. Look at Podcaster and qtweeter they have official apps in and Jailbroken apps

  5. Tone says:

I'm proud of apple for finally doing this... Now qik ain't even fun anymore

  9. Andre says:

I have the original qik, and love it. Will have to give qik live a try. The only thing I would change about the app right now is the delay in live video. Other than that it's an awesome app!

  10. conedude13 says:

the ustream app has chat while streaming live. this one does stream live now, but doesn't have chat while streaming live. the chat does, however, pop up after you are done streaming. i don't like that aspect, but it is a step in the right direction.

  11. Todd says:

Just tried Qik on my iPhone - what a lousy experience that was. One frame every three seconds is not live video. I guess Qik thinks that by ftping your video after the fact that no-one will notice their stuff doesn't work to begin with.

  12. Joe Ace says:

I agree... not being able to see the chat WHILE you stream is a PAIN.... It's too bad, because that's the only feature that qik is lacking... I read they removed it to increase fps and are working on getting it back with no fps damage, but until then, ustream (as sucky as it is) will work better for me because of the chat function :(

Sorry Qik.... at least give us the option in the setting menu!!: Better FPS or Chat, then we are all happy!!
