All these facts points to Android eventually outgrowing and outselling the iPhone. This may be due to the high price of the iPhone or the fast development cycle of Android.

From me personally, I would like to just say that I had and Android phone first, then got an iPhone for development. Although the iPhone is nicer in lots of things, eg. browsing, copy paste, build quality, In the end I like Android much more. I just feel a lot more disconnected with the iPhone. The notifications system is sub par to Android in all ways.

Lastly, Apple is too controlling, I hope Android is the eventual winner, for the good of consumers.

The Iphone is great for media and games ... which is why the Ipod touch is great ...

Sorry but the iPhone doesn't win that easy. In fact it doesn't win at all. You can have games...thats a fair assesment. Media playback? All I need the thing to do is play the media. Media playback is quickly becoming a last ditch excuse. Web Browser - The Incredible wins. If you'd take a look at some video you'd see the enhanced cut and paste options and also the fact that when you zoom in and out the Android text reformatting gets to work and makes sure you don't have to scroll left and right to see the main text. Browser usability is in the hands of Sense but personally I preferred stock Android to the iPhone browser as well. And why do you bring up iChat as an advantage for the front facing camera. You do know that Google Talk does video right? Advantage erased.

In a nutshell the iPhone only appears to be easier to use because it has lacked functionality until now with iPhone OS 4. And as soon as it was demoed some people were complaining that simplicity and usability were going out of the window. Some people just want to have a phone that doesn't do much. But since 1.5 Android has been the more usable phone. You have far more customization options and the widgets put it over the top. You can actually get information when you unlock your phone instead of a grid of icons. The application paradigm of a stack of screens and being able to get back to what you were doing with a back button is a serious step over navigation on an iPhone. Anyone will admit to the superior notification system of Android. Then theres the new leap feature in sense to quickly get around your desktop and the scenes feature that allows you to have completely different and switchable desktop setups. Honestly the iPhone quickly begins to look quite limited for someone interested in capabilities. It may continue to reign with those that need training wheels but it lags Android for a power user.

I am not use that as an excuse. Anroid added 9000 apps just last month. The quailty of the apps are up there as well. And the evo has video conferencing cability by the way I called htc. So that is the purpose of the front facing camera. And amazon mp3 happens to be a great alternative to itunes. I like some odler songs whch are not available on itunes. I find them on amazon, plus the new stuff. And its drm free, I can move them to an ipod if I wanted in the future. The same cannot be said about itunes music. You are locked in. You need special software to move it.

And based on all the leaks for the iphone 4g I am basing that opinion on.

Please, don't feed us that excuse for Androids lack of Apps. I'm pretty sure if the iPhone App Store was a 145,000 apps behind the Android Market you'd be bragging about it. And on top of that the App Store still has plenty of quality apps, you just need to read reviews to find the right ones.

Yes, the EVO has a front facing camera, but whats it going to do with it? When will you guys learn, its not about what you do, its about how you do it. The 4G will probably be using iChat, does Android have anything to compete with that? The iPhone still beats any Android phone in the areas that count and matter the most to consumers, it beats any Android phone on usability.

Media Play back: Amazon Music Store vs iTunes, iPod vs Android media player. iPhone wins no matter how you play it.

Touch Screen, we've all seen the tests that crown the iPhone as the most accurate screen out there.

Web Browser: Android phones like the Nexus one might be faster for now, but thats only because of the 1GHZ processor. When the G4/HD iPhone is released with an A4 chip we'll see who's on top in speed. Usability however is a different story, the iPhone is still the most intuitive experience.

Apps: App Store vs Android Market, 185,000 vs 38,000. Say what you will, but numbers don't lie. And the App Store wins in terms of app quality, just take a look at the Facebook apps on the respective platforms.

Games? No contest. TKO! The iPhone wins easy.

These are the things normal people care about, not wether or not it has a HDMI port, thats for nerds to worry about.

Where the fragmentation comes in is that some apps are only usable (full stop) or usable (not enough power) on devices of a certain OS level. There are apps that won't run on Cupcake that run great on Eclair -- some of that is OS level and some is the level of hardware typically running that OS release. Which OS is used can be limited by the hardware or slowed down by Sense development. That and the different screensizes can result in fragmentation. There are absolutely ways to deal with this however and El Goog needs to move faster on helping devs avoid the pitfalls that result in fragmentation. It's not purely a hypothetical for tech reviewers to harp on.

This does make sense to me whatsoever. You are correct, NO ONE will use all 185,000 apps. But, that is not the point of having so a robust catalogue of apps. The point is the huge variety of apps offered for almost everything. If you are into mythology or if you need tools to value investments, App store offers something for you. If you are a History buff or you are a fan of the dental profession, App store offers something for you. Bottom line - no other mobile platform offers a selection apps like Apple's App store. Not EVEN close (over time this change but no time soon).

I have to completely disagree with you on this. The iPhone has by far and a way the most intuitive Cut, copy, paste UI period.

Yes, but the Android market does not match the iPhone's App Store in terms of App quality, polish and finish. Most of the issues you raised (other than widgets and notification UI) have been rectified with OS 4.0.

Okay, lets clear some things up really quick. If you are moving from a Pre to an iPhone and your main items of interest are multitasking and notifications then you are going to be very upset. The Pre is a multitasking monster. There simply isn't a better multitasking implementation out there. Even iPhone 4.0 multitasking is crippled multitasking. The other thing is notifications. The Pre IMHO has the best notifications as well. After having the Pre, even the notifications on my Droid are annoying. I use my iPhone as an iPod Touch now and I still hate the notifications. The iPhone has the worst again IMHO. The two things you are worried about you are the Pre's best selling points.

For finding users I find the Pre is easier, but I prefer hardware keyboards for this reason. From your home screen just start typing. If in an app, you just swipe up and start typing. The universal search goes to work. With the iPhone, you can do the same thing as Dragonfly said. Double tap to spotlight search and start typing. The only problem is you loose whatever you were just doing (not exactly how the kinda-multitasking is actually going to handle this once 4.0 is here - we can only work off of native apps right now).

With email, the iPhone again doesn't hold a candle to the Pre. Love the unified inbox. I hate having to back button, back button, back button, account button just to see another account on the iPhone. I am actually looking forward to seeing the unified inbox on 4.0 cause it's something that always annoyed me on the iPhone.

One thing I want to clear up is Cut and Paste. The iPhone BY FAR does not have the best cut and paste implementation. That title is easily held by Blackberry. You CANNOT cut and paste from anywhere as Dragonfly said. You can in most places that you would like to be able to, but not anywhere. iPhone however does have better cut and paste functions than the Pre. Pre's is getting better, but still not on par with iPhone and neither can touch Blackberry on this feature.

As far as apps of course the Pre doesn't hold a candle to the iPhone. But again, think of the apps that you are actually going to use. No one is going to use 185,000 apps. No one is going to use 2000 apps (I hope, I could be wrong I only had a few apps that I missed on my Pre from my iPhone. Yet still there are apps I miss from my Pre and iPhone that aren't on my current phone the Droid. But I've found apps on the Droid (I think actually only two) that aren't available on the Pre or iPhone (you would think that with 185,000 apps, they wouldn't miss a thing).

iPhone of course blows the Pre out of the water as a media player. Simply because the iPhone truly is an iPod first and a phone second.

I would say stick with the Pre until iPhone 4.0 comes out. Then find a friend with one and spend a couple hours with it. Don't go to the store cause you don't get to see everything in a real world environment.

My current configuration is a Droid as my phone which is pretty annoying but has some good features that I love. I still have my iPhone that I use as an iPod Touch. I use to carry both all the time, but have finally gotten to the point that I usually keep my iPhone in the backpack and only break it out for listening to music or playing games. Once the BB Bold 9650 is released, I will use my upgrade to try that out. If it works well (cause i need business backing), then I will keep it, otherwise, I'm going back to the Pre Plus on Verizon.

Let me help you out. While the Pre is a fantastic phone its still lacking in certain areas, just like the iPhone, no phone is perfect after all. But the iPhone does beat the Pre in certain areas, for example...

Copy and Paste, there just isn't a better implementation than the iPhones. You can copy from anywhere and paste almost where ever you want. Whether its text, images, video, whatever you can pretty much copy almost everything. And its super easy to use.

Multitasking, the Pre has a better looking solution for it. But it comes at a price, having used a Pre I can attest to this. Simply put its very slow and laggy and because it lets applications that don't have to run in the background do so (is there any need to have a calendar, notes app, calculator, run in the background?) the battery life is very poor even by iPhone standards. With iPhone OS 4.0 you get multitasking, while it's not as visually appealing as the WebOS's, it gets the job done without sacrificing battery life and performance.

Finding a user and texting or emailing them is very fast. Double click the home button to bring up spotlight search, type the name of whoever you're looking for and you can text or email them straight away. Also as you know, iPhone OS 4.0 will have a unified mail box, Hallelujah!

Notifications is one area where the Pre wipes the floor with the iPhone, simply put the iPhone has the worst notification system in the smartphone arena. Its an intrusive and obtrusive mess that constantly gets in the way. Plus because notification badges are spread over multiple home screens you'll often lose track of how many notifications you have. Hopefully Apple will come to their senses and take a leaf out of WebOS's book when it comes to notifications.

The iPhone also has the best media player out there with the iPod, the best and most stable web browser in Mobile Safari, the greatest selection of apps with the App Store (you've got 185,000 choices), the best and most accurately responsive touch screen in the industry and its still the easiest to use, period. The Pre is a fantastic phone, but it lacks the precision, polish and finish that the iPhone offers. And with iPhone OS 4.0 it just got even better. If you make the switch you won't be disappointed.

And just because your crappy service wouldn't make use of it, why say "it better be for this"... Obviously it will be able to take pictures as well.
