Apple using new painting process to finally ship white iPhone?

According to Macotakara Apple has begun using a new painting process developed by a small Japanese company to finally produce the white iPhone 4 reliably enough to ship this spring.

Their source claims previous attempts to mass produce the white iPhone 4 resulted in so many defective units it was cost prohibitive for Apple to actually ship them. This new process lets them better control the thickness of the paint making it more reliable. It's supposedly the difference between Apple abandoning the white iPhone entirely and finally shipping it this year (perhaps as soon as February 27).

So the question is, do you believe it's actually coming or will you only believe it when you see it?

New iPad commercial is magically... iconic!

I hope they come out with a iPhone 5 in white.. its too late for a white iPhone 4.

  2. Colton says:

I really don't care of it ships out in white, the proximity sensor on it looks weird & the iPhone 5 is about to come out, so it's to little to late!

  3. chris says:

agree atleast now they can be prepared to have a white iphone out for their next launch

  4. jason says:

i agree with everyone else. too late. although, not everyone knows about apples yearly release, although it should be pretty known by now. so it could, and would still be profitable.

and if anyone says that would be a shady practice, it wouldnt be. how? you should do your research before buying anything. simple research would show someone that theres a new one every juneish.

although yes, i hope that the iphone 5, or 4g or whatever its called does come in white. although i dont know how fond of the white faceplate i am. but the back is awsome.

  5. Lol, my first thought when seeing this post on Twitter was that Apple was using White Out fluid as white paint.

I will believe it when I see it, though I think it is interesting that they are making a white iPhone 4 so late into the iPhone 4's life cycle. Perhaps there is no iPhone 5 coming out in June? Or will the white iPhone 4 be a draw if Verizon doesn't introduce an iPhone 5 in June but AT&T does?

A white iPhone wouldn't be a draw for me, I always have a case on my phone. I prefer black anyway, I was given a choice of a white iPhone for my 3GS and chose black. Bring on the iPhone 5!

  6. Justin says:

this really makes no sense. maybe iphone 5 is gonna be like iphone 3G to 3GS and it'll be the same design and they're already getting ahead of game because those people that held out for this long (who idk) are going to come flooding in for i5. Apple has taken ALL evidence that there was even a white iphone to begin with, even changing the "Bumper Case" pic to the black phone. So what's the point in doing all that to put them all back again? Either i5 is the same design, or we're not seeing it till way later in the year.

  7. Jason says:

I wouldnt mind the next iPhone being the same design as the iPhone 4 as long as they fix the antenna problem. I love the design of the iPhone 4. Even the back being glass. Although i must say that i feel uneasy about setting the phone down and a, worried about dropping the phone. Although im usually pretty careful anyways.

  8. Stephen says:

iPhone 5 comes out first, apple states issues with manufacturing black phones and we get a full year of white.

  9. Jasen says:

I can understand the drive to prove you can make one, but I expect most people wrap their phone in a case, so who cares what color it is? What would be fun (but too gimmicky for current Apple) would be a clear or colorless iPhone- like the first iMacs.

  10. Jose says:

Manufacturing issues sounds like smoke and mirrors to me. My thought is that this is a way for apple to introduce a new white iPhone 4 to boost sales in this upcoming transitional period they're entering- moving to verizon and all that goes with that, along with the sales dip at the end of iPhone 4's lifecycle. Introducing a white iPhone at this exact time has nothing to do with manufacturing glitches. Maybe there was a problem producing them at first, but apple has had them for a while now, and has been waiting for the right moment to reveal.

  11. Jose says:

I'm still wondering where those colored verizon iPhone mini's are...

  12. Eagleyesmith says:

Oh I know that it is coming but I'm just mad that it wasn't here at launch. I really did want an iPhone 4 (White 32GB), that was my plan since the FIRST time I saw the white iPhone. Now, I can't get it period because I got the black one. I have to wait at-least 2 years ... sucks. But I'll take it.

  13. scott says:

My wife will be trading her white 3GS for the white 4. I think this speaks volumes about the next phone keeping the same form factor as the present one, which would make sense. Can't see Apple scrapping this design after a year and start all over. The Verizon phone will be the same, so I see this version staying until next year and the faster networks. Apple MIGHT copy the Verizon antenna setup for the ATT phone to keep them the same. If the combo chips come out, this will make more sense too. One phone, one setup. I really don't see what else they can do, maybe a plastic back like the 3G's had, but the same shape. More memory is really not needed with cloud storage coming. Faster chip does't seem prectical or needed either. If you go from 1 GHZ to 1.5, I don't think you could tell. The phone is fast as is. I think at this point, customization is becoming more to the forfront. We need better notifications, and a way to set up the phone the way WE want. I would like it to ring for a call, vibrate for an email, and stay silent for a txt. Can't do it. It IS time to address these things. Or, let the app store do it.

Who remember's the old Palm Zire 72's paint issue?

  15. Felface says:

I will definerly only believe it when i see it this is the umpthteen story on on the White iPhone I dont believe anywhere anymore I wont beleive it unti there is a definite conforming leak or Steve jobs/tim cook walk on stage and say this is the White iPhone 4 or post it n there website till that day (Steve knows when it is)

  16. Jason says:

Lo. It's a problem. Its on every iPhone 4 i have seen rather it was caseless had the bumper on or had and otter box on. That's about 5 different iPhones, all purchased at different times. It's a problem, although it's not as bad as the media made it out to be. I still am yet to drop a call with the iphone4
