Game developers testing Apple A5-chip equipped iPhone 4?

Game developers testing Apple A5-chip equipped iPhone 4?

9to5Mac has heard that Apple is allowing select, high level gaming companies to get a head start developing for the next-generation iPhone 5 via a special A5-chipset powered iPhone 4.

The person who chose to share this information with us calls it the ‘iPhone 4S’, though the device itself only has typical Apple prototype nomenclature. He also shared that the device spends its evenings in a safe in the company’s offices.

Apparently it's otherwise identical to current iPhone 4, albeit with a special version of iOS 4 to support the dual core Apple A5 chipset and it's 2x processor and 9x graphics performance boost.

Whether or not iPhone 5, expected to launch this fall, keeps the iPhone 4 form factor (like the iPhone 3GS kept the iPhone 3G form factor) remains unknown. An A5 version of the iPod touch should theoretically launch at the same time.

Given how Infinity Blade, Dead Space, and Real Racing 2 HD look on the A5-equipped iPad, Nintendo and Sony should be very, very afraid.

Yes sir! Me as well! The upgrade from 3G to 3GS was very significant. This article might hint at a new iPhone this summer. Why would they give them this early of a lead?
I just want a camera that doesn't have that awful green circular tint. Wonder why TiPB hasn't blogged about that. It's very ugly and widespread.

"He also shared that the device spends its evenings in a safe in the company’s offices."
That sounds like enough information to at least track the comment back to the actual company and then someone on the development team. Maybe that is a detail that should not have been leaked...

I would disagree...at least from a pure gaming perspective. Though the newest crop of games on the iPhone are graphically impressive, there is an issue when your finger takes up most of the screen to play.
I think they are servicing different target markets.

Id laugh so hard for everyone waiting for the Iphone5 in sept, and it just turns out its a Iphone4S... Ip4 with bigger screen and A5.

I think there'll be no bigger screen for the new iPhone (i hope i was wrong). As Mr. Job said from the iP4 keynote, retina display will be a standard for the next several years. So the ppi will be kept as current iPhone. And do you really think apple would increase the screen resolution? It'll be very expensive isn't it?

Chicken and egg problem...not enough buyer demand until there are good games...not enough good games until there is widely supported hardware...not enough widely supported hardware until there is buyer demand.

As long as they improve the memory to go with A5 chipset, then bring on iphone 4s. That said, why delay til Sept if all they're doing is a new chipset? Surely a delay, kind of suggests new form factor? Assuming it is delayed of course.....

Nintendo has nothing to be afraid of until iPhone gets a physical damn controller and it becomes normal for kids to have one
Both haven't happened. Nintendo is doing awesome. Stop stepping up. It's not true
