iOS 5 untethered jailbreak teased, should work on iOS 5.0.1 as well

pod2g has posted a video showing off an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. When and if it will be made public has yet to be said.

hello. No it does not rely on [Charlie Miller's code signing vulnerability]. Next step do the same on iOS 5.0.1. Should be quick.

According to later a tweet sent out by pod2g, it looks as if it will work on iOS 5.0.1 which is great news for all the folks that already updated.

Tons of questions from my nice followers. Too early to answer. Will work on iOS 5.0.1, will try iPad 2 and 4S after others are ready.

I'm secretly (ok, not so secretly) crossing my fingers that an untethered solution will follow (heck, I'll take tethered at this point) for the iPhone 4S.

An untethered jailbreak is one that doesn't require an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad be plugged via USB dock cable to properly reboot, and typically seems harder and takes longer to achieve than tethered jailbreaks. While tethered gets the job done, an untethered solution is always preferred.

I sure wish Apple made these devices in a way that didn't make jail breaking so necessary for some of us. It'd be great to have the latest and greatest features right away instead of having to wait for the tethered jb, untethered jb, and then the kind guinea pigs who test it out for us chickens.

The dynamic between apple and the jb community actually works quite well IMO once the jailbreak is developed. I just wish they would consider that and not try so hard to prevent the jbs from happening in the 1st place

Apple is fascists. You want openness and freedom to do what you want and customize your phone or tablet ? Then you are using the wrong os, android is free open source software and every new android device is jail broken untethered before it hits retailers. The UI of android and shortcuts with multitouch actions is worlds ahead of apple. The pull dOwn notification bar has been in android for years. Apple is losing becuz ppl don't like to be limited or sheltered.

You should include iPad2 and iPhond 4S are not going to be supported in the title

I thought that Untethered JB was available on the 3GS already... let's see work it on a iPhone 4, then I'll get excited.
from the Jailbreak Wiki Article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOSjailbreaking#Detailsofrecentreleasesofjailbreaking_tools)
"Jailbreak for old-bootrom iPhone 3GS models are untethered on all versions, because of the use of 24kpwn, which exists only in the MB models of the iPod touch 2G and iPhone 3GS old boot-rom."

An iPad 2 Jailbreak has been long overdue, and I honestly hope one will finally come out soon (X-Mas Gift, New Years gift??).

Im pretty much over JBing... mine is back to stock now the only thing i really miss is BiteSMS... but i guess i can live without it... its not worth the trouble to JB to me anymore...

I couldn't see Model number clearly enough--interested know cuz 1/2 the 3GS's dont have hardware ID/bootROM that made (4+) jail breaking exploits not work. See other comment re: this for details
