T-Mobile says AT&T, Verizon iPhones be slow

T-Mobile is burning a lot of ad dollars lately telling us our AT&T and Verizon iPhones -- running on HPSA 7.2 and EVDO Rev A respectively -- are slower than the Android phones they have running on their HSPA+ network.

Take a look at what you get from Android™ phones vs iPhone®. The full web experience, with fast uploads, downloads, and streaming entertainment, all on the fastest 4G smartphones running on America’s Largest 4G Network™ with the most affordable 4G data.*

Okay. T-Mobile didn't get an iPhone yet but they have seen the "I'm a Mac" commercials. Got it. Any other take away?

I have to agree. I live in central pa and my buddy's mytouch 4g smokes my iPhone 4 all day everyday

"T-Mobile says AT&T, Verizon iPhones 'are' slow"
What happened to the proper usage of the English language?

Allyson Kazmucha says:

@Stormfront - pretty sure it was supposed to be funny, not necessarily grammatically correct.
T-Mobile may have a quicker network in "some" areas, but I don't think this applies to everyone.

mrNotiq says:

Are you sure you should be making fun of the use of urban language/ebonix? What's next?
"AT&T responds, Oh hell nawww! Our phones don't be slow. They be quicker then a muuuug!"
I'm sure at least "some" of your visitors that actually talk like that might not appreciate this specific brand of "comedy". This isn't MediaTakeOut.com.... #justsayin

Crunch says:

HAHAHA...What the heck is up some people's ***** today? "(...) people who talk like that". And just who exactly are you talking about? You're more potentially offensive in your response.[/OT]
Anyway, yea, T-Mobile telling it like it is. With a net loss of 310,000 subscribers in Q4'10, I suppose they're having to come up with something, anything, in order to attempt to lure customers (back) to them, however futile such an undertaking will likely be. And let's not forget that T-Mobile was the first to come up with the silly contention that HSPA+ is 4G. They may just have helped AT&T out with that one, though, so it's all good.
(Oh shh**, golly, I hope I didn't offend anyone with that!?)

OrionAntares#CB says:

Well let's not forget the same thing applies for AT&T as well. The only one of those three listed with consistent speeds and stability across their network is Verizon.

Crunch says:

It's probably best to ignore people like that. I always enjoy your articles and if anything, you come off as super nice.

cardfan says:

They're doing what they have to do. Nothing wrong with advertising your strengths, temporary as they may be.

Kareem says:

Will T-Mobile just give up on getting on AT&T & Verizon like come on. I keep telling them when they improve their services and especially in the project and certain areas then they can take but compare what The Android phone to what the iPhone come on now sit down. For all I care my iPhone can do way more stuff and I rather have my services on AT&T then T-Mobile. Like what 4G T-mobile is on because last I check they haven't even improved on their 3G Like to me they still on Edge. No matter fact their on the Edge. Lol!

Christopher says:

Omfg...what??? LoL man you make no sense.

Damitol says:

@Christopher - Luckily Google just added a Kareem to English module to their great translator program, and this is what Kareem said:
I do wish that T-Mobil would cease their negative ad campaign against AT&T and Verizon. I’ve told them that once they improve their service where I live and it nearby areas, their claims would be more valid. Instead, a wiser use of their advertising dollars would be to directly compare the strengths of their Android phones to the iPhone. I personally believe that my iPhone is a more advanced device in many ways when compared to the Android, and I prefer using AT&T as my carrier, not T-Mobile. I question their claims that they even have a 4G network based on their fact that their 3G network in my area has never been adequately updated, and provides speeds more in line with what I would expect on the old Edge network. In fact – I will go so far as to say that T-Mobile is still utilizing antiquated Edge technology! Ha! I made myself chuckle at that thought.

tlo07 says:

I enjoyed that. Thank you!

Lol , funny.

Harold J says:

lol that made my night TY!

Just a GUY with a PHONE says:

Damn son that sh*t was HALAROUSE!!!

mountainhouse says:

T-mobile needs to learn that improving 3g does not mean it's 4g. So when will T-mobile get 4g?
http://www.technewsdaily.com/t-mobiles-4g-network-isnt-really-4g-1576/

DLprac says:

mountainhouse needs to learn that citing old, out-of-date articles just makes him look silly. Know what else was not considered 4G at that time? Verizon's LTE and Sprint's WiMax. Now they all are, including T-Mobile and AT&T's HSPA+

OrionAntares#CB says:

You could call LTE 4G simply because it's an easy precursor to an LTE Advanced deployment when that standard finishes it's spec approval.
I believe WiMax is also capable of reaching those speeds with further advancement though I'm not sure about its strengths in coverage or penetration.
Calling GSM 4G is just terrible.

fro says:

They are all SCAM artists. T-Mo, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. The 4-G moniker is all marketing. ITU-R lists speeds of around 1Gb/sec as 4G. No one is doing that, and no one will be in the immediate future.

Kyan says:

Hey, if it's true it's true... I've got AT&T and an iPhone and I definitely have a lot of issues with dropped calls and connectivity. I've debated switching to an Android phone for months now and can't make up my mind - there are pros and cons to both sides.
and Chris, I agree ... Kareem, what did you smoke?

Joel says:

You might want to check T-Mobile's coverage maps if connectivity is an issue for you...

Kareem says:

Sorry guys if I ain't make no sense. I'm buzzed off a few Four Lokos

OmariJames says:

They're following in Verizon's foot steps. V made fun of AT&T and the iPhone , few months later they got it. T-Mobile may get the 5 !

noaim says:

I think t-mobile is the dumbest company ever at&t has the same network and its bigger thats false advertising by t-mobile period

Shingi70 says:

@ OMFGitsJUSTIN
Tmobile has the G2, Nexus One, Nexus S, and the Mytocuch 4G. They have the best high end android line up since they get the google mad e phones.
also tmobile is bigger then at&t and version. tmobile is the largest carrier in most of the world. which is why i'm surprised a tmo iphone hasn't happened yet.

chris says:

Uum you mean verizon not version just to clear that up for you and also tmobile may be largest in the world but whats that have to do with here in the states? Simply they are the smallest and worst with coverage out of the 4 big carriers not to mention their coverage is lackluster at best in most areas. They should spend their money on expanding their network to atleast be respectable rather than waste it on these dumb advertisements.

webvex says:

I notice there's an asterisk at the end of the quote. I assume the qualification is that you have to be standing next to one of their few towers that supports 4G.

TumnusMr says:

T-Mobile Marketing clearly have never heard of Aesop... ;)
In any case T-Mobile's coverage is terrible. They may have HSPA+ in more cities than Verizon or Sprint have their respective LTE and Wimax networks going, but all tests show that you practically have to be stood right next to the cell tower to get faster than 3G speeds with HSPU+ and no one is getting anywhere near max theoretical speeds. Besides, unless you're tethering why would you need more than 2Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up (which is what I get on AT&T) on a cellphone?

Raingod says:

My iPhone BE SLOW sometimes!! Wonder why? lol

nickpthemft says:

Hmmm...Obviously the ad execs at T-Mobile only got halfway through the story. They completely missed the part about how the rabbit gets its crap beat by the turtle. Slow and steady...

OrionAntares#CB says:

Slow and steady, good descriptions for Verizon compared to the other two once you leave a major metro. The other two take a sharp drop off a cliff while Verizon maintains their speed and coverage...

Josh says:

T mobile doesn't even have 3 g where I live......

Jonathan says:

Didn't the turtle still win the race in the end? I feel like this is a metaphor on T-Mobile. They maybe fast, but will they make it to the end?

Mike S. says:

T-Mobile saying the iPhone doesn't have 4G? Still advertising their fake 4G, are they? AT&T and Verizon at least have 4G expansion plans. AFAIK, T-Mo has no LTE plans at all.

Christopher says:

Exactly. Good point. WTF. They are hypocrites.

as400man says:

Comparing 4G to 3G is like saying that a 747 is faster than a single engine aircraft.
Of course it is!

LisaLisa says:

Well with less customers on your network I guess T-Mobile would be quite speedy.
Wouldn't it.
BTW -Mobile your new commercials Suck something fierce. They stink up my house when ever they are played. #justsayin

Ron says:

Quite. With 1/5 the traffic, AT&T would be much faster than they are now.

OMFGitsJUSTIN says:

Tmobile has no flagship phone worth bragging about, nor do they have very large nation wide coverage.
SO they cranked up the 3G speed a bit and called it 4G. That speed must be nice in X number of areas. Yet when Verizon releases 4G, they will sit there quiet with nothing to say.

smchrist2 says:

I thought the tortoise ended up beating the hare?

TK says:

And how many customers has T-Mobile been losing?

JD says:

T-Mobile.. rebranding protocols as 4G doesn't make your network or your devices faster.
Re-using someone elses retired ad campaign is an even bigger FAIL. What are you, Samsung?

GinoDotCom says:

Anything is better than AT&T in NYC during peak hours. AT&T in manhattan is an absolute joke- slow data speeds constantly along with the never ending dropped calls especially if you're traveling around manhattan with a vehicle.
